  • Patent number: 9467880
Abstract: Small cell discovery signals are transmitted within a subframe allocated for transmission of Device-to-Device (D2D) discovery signals. In accordance with a communication standard, communication resources are organized into frames having subframes for communication within a cellular communication system. Wireless service is provided to mobile UE devices in different sized cells that may overlap. In addition, at least some mobile UE devices can communicate with each other using D2D communication resources. D2D discovery signals are transmitted by mobile UE devices to facilitate the discovery of the mobile UE devices by other mobile UE devices. The communication standard allocates one or more subframes within a frame of a frequency defined communication resource for transmission of the D2D discovery signals. The small cell discovery signals are also transmitted within the subframe to facilitate recognition that a small cell mobile UE device is within the small cell service area.

  • Patent number: 9462553
Abstract: A user equipment (UE) prioritizes searches and/or measurements of neighbor cells/frequencies based on a level of mobility of a UE. In one instance, the UE identifies a priority of a layer of a radio access technology (RAT) to be measured or searched and identifies a level of mobility of the UE. A sensor module of the UE may determine the level of mobility of the UE and generate an indication corresponding to the level of mobility of the UE. The UE prioritizes a periodicity of interlayer search and/or measurement based on the priority of the layer to be measured and the level of the mobility of the UE.

  • Patent number: 9461722
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are disclosed for applying successive multi-rank beamforming strategies (e.g., successive precoding strategies) for the design of precoders over a set of parallel channels. Successive beamforming is applied to a narrow band channel model and is also applied for finer quantization of a single beamforming vector (e.g., recursive beamforming). A first embodiment provides the optimal approach with high complexity. An alternative embodiment provides successive beamforming for near optimal precoding selection with medium complexity. A low complexity method for precoder selection is also provided wherein a channel representative matrix for the set of parallel channels is determined and successive beamforming on the calculated channel representative is applied.

  • Patent number: 9462629
Abstract: Technology for reducing packet transmissions is disclosed. A master evolved node B (MeNB) configured for dual connectivity can receive one or more acknowledgements (ACKs) from a user equipment (UE) indicating packets that were successfully received at the UE from a secondary evolved node B (SeNB). The MeNB can receive, from the SeNB, packet delivery information for the SeNB. The MeNB can receive an indication from the SeNB of an air-interface connection loss between the SeNB and the UE. The MeNB can identify remaining packets that were not sent from the SeNB to the UE based, in part, on the ACKs received from the UE and the packet delivery information received from the SeNB, wherein the remaining packets are not sent to the UE due to the connection loss between the SeNB and the UE. The MeNB can send the remaining packets from the MeNB to the UE.
