  • Patent number: 8872753
Abstract: To adjust brightness of at least a portion of a display image, a type of content to be included within the display image is determined and, based on the identified content type, the light source of the display is set to an adjusted intensity. Thereafter, that portion of the display image unrelated to the content requiring adjusted brightness is processed to account for the adjusted intensity of the light source. Because the processing in accordance with the present invention is performed entirely on one or more processors that provide the display images to the display, the present invention overcomes the added complexity and cost associated with prior art techniques, while simultaneously providing the flexibility to quickly adjust display brightness based on types of content being included in the displayed image.

  • Patent number: 8830190
Abstract: Display devices, methods, and programs display an image on a touch panel. The devices, methods, and programs detect a start position, which is a detected position where a user's finger starts to contact the touch panel, calculate a moving amount by multiplying a distance between the detected start position and a detected second position of the user's finger by a predetermined coefficient of less than one, and update the display position of the image in a direction moving from the detected start position toward the detected second position until the moving amount is equal to or less than a minimum moving amount.

  • Patent number: 8803842
Abstract: There are provided a touch panel apparatus and a method for detecting a distance between touch input points of a touch panel, with which it is possible to detect the distance between two points with accuracy, when two points are touched on the touch panel. Whether or not two points are touched on the touch panel TP is determined based upon a resistance value between terminals opposing each other. When it is determined that two points are touched, the distances between touched two points XDual and YDual are detected. In this situation, the distances between touched two points XDual and YDual are detected based upon the resistance value of the opposing terminals and a pressing force (contact resistance value) of the touch input points.
