Abstract: A surgical system that is able to sense the onset of an occlusion or other surgical event as well as the instant an occlusion breaks. To help avoid overheating of the tip, the system determines a temperature of an eye using irrigation flow rate and reduces the power to the handpiece automatically if an overheating situation is predicted. Alternatively or in addition, the system monitors the power drawn by the handpiece, which is indicative of the cutting load on the tip, and automatically adjusts the power or stroke of the tip to compensate for increased loads on the tip.

Abstract: A pill plunger includes a hollow tube having a forward end and a rearward end. A rod or plunger has a forward end having a dished out portion for receiving medication and a rearward end having a button. The plunger occupies the tube with the dished out portion at the forward end of the tube and the button extending from the rearward end of the tube. Medication is placed in the dished out portion, which is then retracted into the tube. After insertion of the tube into a patient's mouth, the button is depressed to extend the plunger and dispense the medication. A spring can be used to retract the plunger upon release of the button. The dished out portion can be sealed to carry a fluid or powder. A dual dished out portion can be provided in the rod, and a window can be formed in the hollow tube.
Abstract: A Method of Determining the Helix Angle of a Helical Formation for a Conduit. A method of determining the helix angle of a helical formation (4) within a conduit (1). The method includes specifying the internal dimensions of the conduit (1) and an intended fluid mass flow through the conduit (1). The helix angle is determined from the pressure drop and the turbulent kinetic energy for a conduit (1) having the specified internal dimensions and intended fluid mass flow.

Abstract: In a device (1) for automatically injecting injection liquids, including an axially subdivided housing whose parts are connectable with each other, wherein an axially displaceable pressure pin (5) is guided in a first housing part (2), which pin is capable of being inserted against a force accumulator (6) and locked in the inserted position and extended upon relief of the force accumulator (6), wherein an injection needle (15) fixed in a needle guide (14) and an ampoule (13) are mounted in a second housing part (3) so as to be axially displaceable relative to each other, wherein the injection needle (15) on its side facing the ampoule (13) is designed as a perforation piece (32) for the ampoule (13), the ampoule (13) with its end facing the injection needle (15) is mounted to reach into a sleeve (16) fixed within the second housing part (3) and whose inner diameter substantially corresponds to the outer diameter of the ampoule (13).
