  • Patent number: 4959948
Abstract: A fiber baling press consists of a rugged machine frame with a press ram in most cases movable from the top toward the bottom, a press box being movable underneath the ram. The press box consists of a press box casing which should be closed all around. This press box rests on a press box bottom plate which, in this case, for the pressing step, is simultaneously the lower press platen. The press ram as well as, in particular, the press box bottom plate are to be fashioned in the manner of a trough in order to impart to a piece of packaging material for the upper and lower sides of the bale of fiber a preliminary orientation directed toward the bale, after the press box casing has been pulled off the bale. A special advantage resides in making the bottom plate have a trough-like opening of the press box casing so that overflowing of the compacted fiber material over the four lateral flanges of the trough is avoided after withdrawing the press box casing. The piece of packaging material, e.g.

  • Patent number: 4866906
Abstract: The present invention provides a device for fixedly securing a cap and body of a capsule together to thereby render the capsule tamper evident. In one form of the invention, the capsules are conveyed at spaced intervals along a predetermined path of travel through a treatment zone which is generally perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the capsule. An elongated bar having a tapered edge and positioned within the treatment zone engages the side of the capsule to produce an indentation in the side of the capsule which increases in depth from the entry and to the exit end of the treatment zone. This indentation around the capsule hermetically seals the cap and body of the capsule together so that the cap and body cannot be separated without destruction of the capsule. In another form of the invention, the bar is increasingly heated along its length so that, in addition to forming an indentation circumferentially around the capsule, simultaneously hermetically seals the capsule cap and body together.

Abstract: Drawplate for hot drawing. This drawplate comprises a central core hooped into a mount and is provided with an axial channel successively defining an intake cone, a working cone, a cylindrical bearing and an outlet. The mount is formed from two parts, which are assembled with one another with a small clearance. The clearance between the parts and the geometry thereof are such that during the drawing operation the core is subject to isostatic stressing. Therefore, it is possible to use for the production of the core, fragile materials, e.g. ceramic materials or refractory alloys, such as cobalt or molybdenum-based superalloys.

  • Patent number: 4700531
Abstract: The invention discloses a multiple layer packaging film, packages made therefrom and a method of opening the packages. The invention provides inseparable seal strength and in some cases hermetic seals, in combination with peelable ply separation opening for access to the contents of the package, while at the same time providing excellent barriers to transmission of oxygen and moisture. Certain embodiments provide for improved abuse resistance, excellent graphics, and other improvements. The method of opening the package depends on separating opposing ones of the package sidewalls, forcing the opening tear to be propagated partially through the film to a peelable layer interface, with subsequent ply separation along the interface to effect completion of opening of the package.

  • Patent number: 4682488
Abstract: A slit fin heat exchanger is formed by wrapping slit fin tubing into a flat coil having two spaced rows of tubing. The flat coil is located on mandrels which are rotatable about spaced parallel axes with the mandrels and axes initially being in the same plane. The mandrels are rotated about their axes in opposite directions which shifts the plane in which the coil is located. The shifting of the plane of the coil moves a portion of a first row of the coil into contact with a planar portion of a platen and the second row of the coil into a nesting relationship with the portion of the first row which is in contact with the planar portion of the platen. Continued rotation of the mandrels causes folding of the portions of the coil which extends the area of nesting. The folding takes place through up to 120.degree. and the ends of the first row of the coil contacts a portion of the platen causing the formation of a knob at the end of each coil.

  • Patent number: 4681000
Abstract: Method for cutting food materials having predetermined depths defined by a proximal surface and a remote surface, into a desired, continuous, closed configuration. A food material is selected having a predetermined depth. The desired configuration is cut into the food material by inserting therein at the proximal surface blade means having a cutting edge defining at least the exterior outline of the desired, continuous, closed configuration, while maintaining the cutting edge of the inserted blade means spaced from the remote end of the food material. The blade means is then removed from the food material while leaving the cut configuration substantially intact in the food material. Removal from the food material of the desired cut configuration when the blade means is removed is prevented by avoiding excessive compression of the food material when the blade means is inserted in the food material.

  • Patent number: 4672795
Abstract: The assembly performs the method of handling packages having a panel extending outwardly from one side of the package and along one edge thereof. A plurality of such contiguously nested packages is provided with the extending panel of each package disposed in the same direction and overlapping the side of the next adjacent juxtaposed package. The end package of the plurality of nested packages has its extending panel directed outwardly from the plurality and is rotated to cause the extending panel thereof to be placed in an overlapping relationship with respect to the next adjacent juxtaposed package. The plurality of packages being fed to the work station of the end package rotation process is acted upon in a particular manner to cause them to shift with respect to each other to produce a substantially uniform overlapping disposition of the outwardly extending panels with respect to the side of the next adjacent juxtaposed panel.

  • Patent number: 4662202
Abstract: A cascade speed control for tensionless production in a rolling mill by the measurement of stand motor current with temperature compensation. A low tension speed ratio between pairs of mill stands is calculated by successive incremental corrections. The corrections are based on the difference between a no tension current and a tension current for the motors of the mill stands as compensated for temperature variation. In one embodiment a compensation factor is calculated by taking the temperature difference of the material at the times the currents are measured and multiplying the difference by an empirical constant which relates the change in motor current to a change in temperature for a particular plant. Another embodiment illustrates temperature compensation by using current compensation values which are obtained by storing a no tension current profile for one of the mill stands.

  • Patent number: 4660403
Abstract: An improved die assembly for use with a punch is employed to produce stitch connections between sheets of rigid, deformable material. The die assembly includes an anvil body having a central anvil portion and a pair of arcuate depressions respectively on opposite sides of the central anvil. A pair of die portions are pivotally mounted on opposite sides of the anvil and include curved sections which are conjugally received within the depressions of the anvil body and function to transmit force applied by the punch through the curved sections to the anvil body, thereby relieving the pivotal connections from undue stress. The die portions and the anvil body are provided with opposing surfaces between which there are trapped coil springs for urging the die portions toward each other. In an alternate embodiment, biasing of the die portions toward each other is achieved by surrounding the die portions with a layer of molded, resilient material such as urethane.

  • Patent number: RE33990
Abstract: A box-like frame member is formed by compressing an internally-pressurized tubular blank within a die having a cavity conforming to the final box-like cross section desired for the product, and increasing the pressure to exceed the yield limit of the wall of the blank to expand the blank into conformity with the die cavity. The blank is selected so that the final product and the die cavity have a circumference preferably no more than about 5% larger than the circumference of the blank, to avoid weakening or cracking of the blank through excessive circumferential expansion. The internal pressure forces the blank evenly into the corners of the die on closing and allows the blank to be confined within the die without sections of the die pinching the blank on closing of the die.
