  • Patent number: 6049384
Abstract: An apparatus for three dimensional imaging using multi-phased structured light. Measurement of dimensions as small as two hundred microns within one percent accuracy is possible, and multiple scans of a target object, such as the solder pads on an electronic circuit board substrate, are not required. A light source, having a pair of synchronized lamps and a specially designed reticle, projects two different phases of structured light onto a target object. The two phases are projected nearly instantaneously, and the detector is able to discriminate between the two exposures presented by the two out of phase illuminations. The method for presenting the three dimensional image uses filtering techniques and certain assumptions to resolve intensity equations having three unknowns from the two exposures of out of phase structured light.

  • Patent number: 5430354
Abstract: A ballast for lighting an auxiliary source of illumination whenever a primary source of illumination fails to ignite. The auxiliary source of illumination is effectively turned OFF by placing a short circuit thereacross whenever the primary source of illumination is lit. The short circuit is removed whenever the primary source of illumination fails to reach a predetermined level of illumination thereby permitting current to flow through and light the auxiliary source of light. The ballast also includes a power factor correction device for increasing the ballast power factor when the primary source of light reaches a predetermined level of illumination.

  • Patent number: 5325241
Abstract: A write precompensation circuit employs a frequency synthesizer for providing a variable timing signal linked to variable transfer rate in a track zone recording system of a disk drive. The synthesizer also provides an operating frequency current sense signal that is used to generate bit shift of data bits being recorded. A ramp voltage on a ramp capacitor and a logic signal from a bit shift decision circuit are determinative of the magnitude and direction of bit shift, early or late. The VCO and its capacitor are formed on the same IC chip as the ramp capacitor thereby minimizing mismatch due to tolerances inherent in production and operation of electrical components.

  • Patent number: 5298836
Abstract: A power supply circuit for any kind of loads or power consuming devices which are connected to an electrical power supply; especially lamps, such as at least one glow or gas discharge lamp, wherein a pulse width modulator controls electronic switches of a push-pull oscillator, and wherein the pulse frequency of the pulse width modulator is tuned to the resonant frequency of a resonant transformer of the push-pull oscillator which has the secondary side thereof connected to the gas discharge lamp. A control circuit monitors a current and/or voltage value and/or time value which is characteristic for the presence of the resonance and which, upon a change in the resonant frequency, will change the pulse frequency of the pulse width modulator to ensure operation at the new resonant frequency.

  • Patent number: 5297099
Abstract: An integrated circuit, in which some areas of the chip are powered from battery, but at least two other areas of the chip can draw power from independent on-chip power-storage capacitors (which are diode-isolated to accumulate charge from an external signal line). The signal line's input buffer draws power from one capacitor, and the decoder logic draws power from another. Thus, even if the first capacitor is depleted by the signal line's staying in the high-current regime, it will be powered up again when the signal line is again driven high; and the charge stored in the second capacitor will permit the decoding logic to operate. Preferably the second capacitor also powers circuitry which encodes a unique serial number for the chip. Thus, even after the battery has died, the chip can be interrogated to ascertain its unique serial number.

  • Patent number: 5293568
Abstract: The present invention reads out track addresses written onto ID sections of a recording medium, for example, from five, tracks of the plurality of tracks read out simultaneously, to execute demodulation and error correction. In case where the addresses are multiple-written onto the ID sections, the optical spot judges the track address of the desired track on the basis of the plurality of read-out track addresses until the optical spot passes through the remaining track address. Further, in case where there is only a single one of the track addresses written on said ID sections, the track addresses are read out one by one, are demodulated and are error-corrected. The track address of the desired track is judged on the basis of the plurality of read-out track addresses, prior to the fact that the optical spot enters an information recording area.

  • Patent number: 5287335
Abstract: On a record surface of an optical disk whereon basic information is recorded in a first mode of using surface irregularities, such as pits and lands, a layer of an information recording medium is formed for record and reproduction of additional information in a second mode which is different from the first mode. The information recording medium may be either a magneto-optical recording medium or a write-once recording medium. When the surface irregularities are formed along a record track with a first density, the additional information is preferably recorded in the layer of the write-once recording medium by using a second density different from the first density as the second mode along an additional track which is on the record track.

  • Patent number: 5285411
Abstract: A method and apparatus operate an optical memory to perform bit-slice associative memory operations by storing a plurality of keywords to define a keyword database and accessing the database by means of one of the keywords. Preferably, the plurality of keywords are unique and are used to retrieve data which corresponds individually to the keywords. Operation of the memory is by identification of a keyword, the location of which is to be determined within the memory, for example for data retrieval. The identified keyword is then used effectively as a retrieval mask to access the plurality of keywords. The keyword database and its complement are stored in an optical device with the keyword to be retrieved and its complement being stored in recall optical devices. The keyword database or its complement is repetitively swept by shifting output columnar vectors by one bit position until all bit positions have been swept.
