  • Patent number: 10223618
Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining orientation and dot pitch of characters in an image. A statistical neighborhood of a set of dots of an image is determined. The statistical neighborhood includes a set of points and each point is associated with a position and a statistical measure indicative of a likelihood that one or more dots that satisfy a shape and a size criteria are located at that position. A Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) is computed across the set of points of the statistical neighborhood; and based on the FFT of the set of points, a first orientation and a first distance between adjacent dots of characters along the first orientation, and a second orientation and a second distance between adjacent dots of the characters along the second orientation are determined.

  • Patent number: 10219688
Abstract: The present disclosure describes systems and methods to select fovea containing optical coherence tomography (OCT) images. The systems and methods described herein receive a plurality of OCT images. The portion of the OCT images are selected for further processing, where a line tracing the border between the retina and non-retina tissue is generated. A difference of the line is generated. Candidate OCT images are then generated responsive to the generated difference line. The lowest point among each difference lines generated for each of the OCT images is identified, and the OCT image to which the lowest point corresponds is identified as the fovea containing OCT image.

  • Patent number: 10192136
Abstract: An image processing apparatus and an image processing method notify a user of an object region from which an object cannot be recognized. The image processing apparatus includes an interface and a processor. The interface receives an input image. The processor extracts a first target object region from the input image and reads first identification information from the first target object region. If the first identification information fails to be read, the processor outputs an output image which includes the first target region and information representing read failure of the first target region.

  • Patent number: 10192125
Abstract: A vehicle is disclosed that includes systems for adjusting the transmittance of one or more windows of the vehicle. The vehicle may include a camera outputting images taken of an occupant within the vehicle. The vehicle may also include an artificial neural network running on computer hardware carried on-board the vehicle. The artificial neural network may be trained to classify the occupant of the vehicle using the images captured by the camera as input. The vehicle may further include a controller controlling transmittance of the one or more windows based on classifications made by the artificial neural network. For example, if the artificial neural network classifies the occupant as squinting or shading his or her eyes with a hand, the controller may reduce the transmittance of a windshield, side window, or some combination thereof.

  • Patent number: 10158391
Abstract: A wearable wireless portable device (“WWPD”) includes cellular/WAN communications circuitry for establishing a direct connection to a telecommunication network and a low-power short range radio for establishing an indirect connection to the telecommunication network via the communications circuitry of the more feature-rich mobile device. The WWPD may be configured to deactivate its cellular/WAN communications circuitry (and other resource such as GPS) to communicate with a more feature-rich mobile device (e.g., a smartphone) via low-power short range communication technologies when it is in close proximity to the mobile device, and activate its cellular/WAN circuitry to provide cellular and/or network connectivity when it is not in close proximity to the mobile device. The WWPD does not require the bulky battery systems, which enables the WWPD to be packaged into a small and lightweight device, such as a wrist watch or pendant and enables longer battery life for the battery of the WWPD.

Abstract: Provided are methods, systems, and computer-readable medium for synthetically generating training data to be used to train a learning algorithm that is capable of generating computer-generated images of a subject from real images that include the subject. The training data can be generated using a facial rig by changing expressions, camera viewpoints, and illumination in the training data. The training data can then be used for tracking faces in a real-time video stream. In such examples, the training data can be tuned to expected environmental conditions and camera properties of the real-time video stream. Provided herein are also strategies to improve training set construction by analyzing which attributes of a computer-generated image (e.g., expression, viewpoint, and illumination) require denser sampling.
