Abstract: The present invention relates to a Chinese herbal medicine composition which is prepared from a raw material comprising the following ratio: 1 part by weight of Lilium brownii var. viridulum, 5 parts by weight of Houttuynia cordata, 2 parts by weight of Atractylodes macrocephala, 2 parts by weight of Poria cocos(Schw.) Wolf., 1 part by weight of Ziziphi Spinosae Semen, 3 parts by weight of Adenophora morrisonensis, 2 parts by weight of Semen Astragali Complanati, 0.5 parts by weight of Zingiber officinale, 5 parts by weight of Tribulus terrestris, 3 parts by weight of Pogostemon cablin, 0.5 parts by weight of Ziziphus jujuba, and 0.1 parts by weight of Dimocarpus longan. The invention also relates to a method of using the herbal composition for inhibiting melanoma cell metastasis. The invention also relates to a process for the preparation of the herbal composition.
Abstract: Choline alfoscerate is a drug used to improve cerebrovascular diseases and brain metabolism. It is a drug with proven safety, which has no effect on the kidney and liver and with no severe side effect reported. When administered to a patient with muscle cramps, it can significantly reduce pain and the occurrence of muscle cramps. Accordingly, it may be used as an active ingredient in a pharmaceutical composition for treating or preventing muscle cramps and a health functional food composition for improving muscle cramps and may also be used for a method for treating muscle cramps by administering choline alfoscerate. In addition, choline alfoscerate may also be used to prepare a medication for treating muscle cramps.

Abstract: A composition is provided herein directed to a mixture of one or more Lactobacillus sp. and a phenolic compound. In a specific embodiment, disclosed is a Lactobacillus/phenol mixture that has been lyophilized to form a Lactobacillus/phenol lyophilized mixture. The Lactobacillus/phenol mixture of Lactobacillus/phenol lyophilized mixture may be packaged in a capsule, emulsion, or tablet such that the Lactobacillus are protected in a gastrointestinal tract for transport to an intestine of a subject. In another embodiment, a method for treating Type-1 diabetes including orally administering to a diabetic or pre-diabetic subject, or a subject at risk for becoming pre-diabetic or diabetic, a composition comprising an effective amount of Lactobacillus/phenol mixture or lyophilized mixture. In still a further embodiment, of improving immune function in a subject, comprising administering to the subject, the composition comprising an effective amount of Lactobacillus/phenol mixture or lyophilized mixture.

Abstract: Disclosed are an anti-freezing agent for protecting a biological tissue from being damaged during a freezing treatment and a preparation method therefor. The method for preparing the anti-freezing agent involves mixing ethylene glycol, water and dimethylsulfoxide homogeneously to form a matrix, and then slowly adding sodium polyacrylate. The prepared anti-freezing agent is coated onto biological tissue during a freezing treatment such that damage to the biological tissue is reduced.

Abstract: A probiotic composition and method for activating probiotic spores for consumption by a human to reduce inflammation in or treat inflammatory conditions in the gut. A probiotic composition comprises a nutrient-germinant composition, one or more species of Bacillus spores, and optionally a food or beverage product, which are mixed or pre-mixed in any combination. A nutrient-germinant composition comprises one or more L-amino acids, optionally a source of potassium ions, and optionally one or more buffers, if the source of potassium ions is not also a buffer. A method of activating the spores comprises heating the probiotic composition or food or beverage containing the probiotic composition to a temperature range of around 42° C.-100° C., more preferably 70° C.-85° C. prior to being administered to ingested. Dosing the probiotic composition at around 1 to 4 grams per day over a treatment cycle can reduce indicators of inflammation by at least 10-20% or more.

In at least one embodiment, methods are described of treating skin by topical application of a vehicle containing the isolated biological polysaccharide to a skin site such as a wound or burn. A method of manufacture is also described.
