  • Patent number: 7430291
Abstract: The present invention provides termination for transmission line structures propagating common mode signals. Common mode signals typically represent noise in systems wherein information is transmitted as differential mode signals. The present invention terminates the common mode signals in a dynamically matched termination that prevents or significantly reduces reflection of said common signals without interference with differential mode transmission lines or their normal operation. Application is shown for an unshielded, twisted pair transmission line as commonly used in telephony-based systems for both voice and broadband data communication. The methods for application of the present invention to systems with large numbers of conductors are also shown.

  • Patent number: 7428304
Abstract: A non-echo canceling voice band modem capable of detecting subscriber alerting signal (SAS) tones and customer premises equipment alerting signal (CAS) tones is provided. The modem includes a shaping filter, an analog-to-digital converter (ADC), a SAS tone detector, a CAS tone detector and an echo canceler. The shaping filter, which is located in a transmitting path of the modem, filters modem signals to be transmitted from the modem. The ADC, which is located in a receiving path of the modem, converts any incoming analog signal to corresponding digital signals to be used by the modem. The echo canceler, which is coupled to the SAS and CAS tone detectors, cancels any echoes in modem signals before sending said modem signals to the SAS and CAS tone detectors.

  • Patent number: 7415107
Abstract: A telephone call information delivery system includes answering circuitry to answer a telephone call incoming from a service provider and to attain information input by a caller. The system further includes an information signal provider to provide at least one signal to deliver at least some of the attained information to a user. As an example, from the delivered information the user can decide whether or not to answer the incoming call. In another embodiment, the system further includes an alert signal provider to provide a signal to alert the user and an activator to receive instruction from the user. The information signal provider operates responsive to the activator. This embodiment answers an incoming call, attains information from the caller, alerts the user, the user then instructs the activator and the signal provider responds and delivers attained information to the user. The user then decides whether to answer the call.

  • Patent number: 7403608
Abstract: An echo processing technique for attenuating echo components of a direct signal X1n in a return signal Y2n. A receive gain Grn and a send gain Gen are calculated. The receive gain Grn is applied to the direct signal and an input signal X2n is produced and emitted into an echo generator system. The send gain Gen is applied to an output signal Y1n from the echo generator system and the return signal Y2n is produced. A coupling variable COR is calculated which is characteristic of the acoustic coupling between the direct signal X1n or the input signal X2n and the output signal Y1n. The receive gain Grn and the send gain Gen are calculated on the basis of the coupling variable.

  • Patent number: 7403610
Abstract: An echo canceller circuit is set forth. The echo canceller circuit includes a digital filter having adaptive tap coefficients to simulate an echo response occurring during a call. The adaptive tap coefficients are updated during the call using a Means Squares process. A tap energy detector is also employed. The tap energy detector identifies and divides groups of taps having high energy from groups of taps having low energy. The high energy tap groups are smaller in number than the low energy tap groups. The high energy tap groups are adapted separately from the low energy tap groups using the Least Squares process. Still further, the high energy tap groups may be adapted using an adaptive gain constant ? while the low energy tap groups are adapted using an adaptive gain constant ??, wherein ?>??.

  • Patent number: 7400720
Abstract: A method is provided that can be used for modifying a control parameter associated with a digital subscriber line (DSL) service. Initially, a real-time performance parameter is received from a first termination unit that is coupled to an DSL circuit. The real-time performance parameter is measured at the termination unit after the termination unit is provisioned and after the DSL circuit is placed in-service. A value of a control parameter associated with the DSL circuit can be modified based on the measured real-time performance parameter. Further, activity over the DSL circuit can be monitored in real-time and when usage of the DSL circuit is below a threshold, the provisionable service parameter that corresponds to the control parameter is modified. Moreover, a first re-provisioning cycle between the first termination unit and a second termination unit coupled to the DSL circuit can be initiated using the provisionable service parameter.

  • Patent number: 7388954
Abstract: A communication system having an echo canceller is disclosed. One embodiment of the echo canceller includes an adaptive filter used to provide an estimate of reflected echo which is removed from the send signal. The echo canceller may also include a near-end talker signal detector which may be used to prevent the adaptive filter from adapting when a near-end talker signal is present. The echo canceller may also include a nonlinear processor used to further reduce any residual echo and to preserve background noise. The echo canceller may also include a monitor and control unit which may be used to monitor the filter coefficients and gain of the adaptive filter to maintain stability of the echo canceller, estimate pure delay, detect a tone, and inject a training signal. The echo canceller may also include a nonadaptive filter used to reduce the length of the adaptive filter.

  • Patent number: 7388885
Abstract: A splitter circuit (19) serves to combine on the transmission side signals which are to be transmitted in different frequency bands (A-C), as well as to separate on the reception side these signals which are transmitted in different frequency bands. For this purpose, the splitter circuit (19) has a circuit section (13) designed as purely passive, for the rough signal and impedance separation, as well as the filters (3, 4; 9, 10) allocated to the individual transmission and reception sections, for the exact filtering out of the individual signal in each case. These separate filters (3, 4; 9, 10) are arranged in the transmission direction upstream of a corresponding four-wire/two-wire conversion, and in the reception direction downstream of a corresponding two-wire/four-wire conversion, so that the signal stream takes place via these filters in one direction only, and the filters can be designed as purely active filters or digital filters.

  • Patent number: 7383041
Abstract: Apparatus (58), and an associated method, for facilitating delivery of network-specific dialing codes to a mobile node (12). When a mobile node (12) is registered to a network part (18) of the network infrastructure of a radio communication system (10), a request (62) is generated by the mobile node (12), requesting download thereto of the dialing codes used in the network part (18) to call service centers (42) associated therewith. The requested dialing codes are downloaded to the mobile node (12). And, the downloaded dialing codes are indexed (68) together with the dialing codes normally used by the mobile node (12) to call the corresponding service centers (42). Subsequently, when a call is placed to a service center, the dialing codes are transposed (74), if necessary, to permit the call to a designated service center (42) to be completed.
