  • Patent number: 4041797
Abstract: In a device of the type including a throttle operating wire secured to a rotatable member operatively connected with the throttle valve, the wire is slidably covered by a tubular flexible guide having an axially extensible portion and furnished with spring means for biasing the guide portion in an extending direction. The flexible wire guide is held fixed at the opposite ends, is flexed therebetween, and is axially contractible against the spring bias when the tension of the wire exceeds a predetermined level so that stop means provided to limit the extent of closing movement of the throttle valve is kept free from any deformation as resulting from an excessive wire tension. This enables the throttle valve to assume the exact idling position and ensures desired engine idling.

  • Patent number: 4039060
Abstract: A stamping press system, the press having a ram, a driving means for the ram, and an electrically energizable ram control device for causing the driving means to drive the ram through a stamping cycle. The press is guarded by a barrier movable between an open position permitting operator access to the point of stamping operation and a closed position barring such access. A press trip control for the system has a pair of actuators, one for each hand of the operator. Upon their concurrent actuation, the actuators cause movement of the barrier to the closed position and energization of the ram control device initiating a stamping cycle. Provision is included for preventing such energization thereby preventing a stamping cycle if the barrier is not closed. Circuitry of the system prevents re-energization of the ram control device, thus preventing a further cycle until the operator has removed both hands from the actuators.

  • Patent number: 4037431
Abstract: A coupling device for transmitting rotational torque in only one direction from a drive member to a driven member has first and second flange members and an elastic circular compression member. The compression member has projections on the periphery which are grabbed by claws on the flange members. There are several pairs of claws, one claw of each pair being attached to the first flange and the other claw being attached to the second flange. The first and second flanges are connected to the drive and driven members, respectively. As the drive member rotates in its only rotating direction, torque is transmitted between the paired claws via the elastic projections between the paired claws. The elastic member also has smaller projections which extend between the claws of adjacent pairs and are therefor free of compression during rotation.

  • Patent number: 4037699
Abstract: Safety apparatus attachable to a punch press for providing a time delay between the starting of the drive-brake motor which drives the flywheel and the engagement of the clutch which couples the flywheel to the drive shaft. The time delay allows the flywheel to be brought up to sufficient speed by the drive motor prior to its engagement with the crankshaft such that it imparts sufficient momentum to the crankshaft to perform the task intended for the crankshaft ram. A safety shut-off switch is utilized in combination with the time delay mechanism to totally shut down the drive-brake motor at the end of a pressing cycle of the drive shaft by shutting off motor power, causing the braking function of the motor to stop the flywheel. The start of the drive motor and the initiation of the time delay for engaging the clutch are simultaneously initiated by the downward movement of a safety shield which may be attached to the press to shield the work area during movement of the flywheel.

  • Patent number: 4037980
Abstract: Locking device locking the suspension nut of a driven shaft from rotation relative to the shaft, upon reversal in the direction of rotation of the shaft or such vibration as would loosen an ordinary nut. The locking device is particularly adapted for cantilevered shaft vertical pumps in which the shaft and pump impeller on the end of the shaft are susceptible to vibration. The locking device includes a pump coupling including a motor shaft coupling part and a pump shaft coupling part detachably secured to the motor shaft coupling part. A nut part having a cylindrical periphery is threaded on the pump shaft and recessed within the pump shaft coupling part, to suspend the shaft from the pump shaft coupling part. The full weight of the pump shaft, coupling and impeller, including the hydraulic thrust, is borne by the threaded connection between the pump shaft and the coupling nut. The coupling nut is tightened by a spanner wrench having projections fitting into drilled holes in the coupling nut.
