  • Patent number: 6759605
Abstract: A platform scale cover is reinforced with one or more scale mats formed of a fiber filled polyester thermoset plastic material (FFP). The mats can be securely and rigidly fixed to scale covers using conventional mechanical fasteners. The FFP can be molded with textures, colors and grain patterns which closely simulate natural materials such as marble, granite and other stone and brick type materials. Sturdy mountings can be molded on the mats to facilitate mounting the mat to a scale platform.

  • Patent number: 6714488
Abstract: A watch is disclosed that includes a color changing feature that is created by using two polarized lenses, one of which is stationary, the other of which would rotate around a central axis. The presence of the two polarized lenses would create a display of color that would change depending on the orientation of one lens to the other. This design, with its central axis and circular shape, lends itself to be readily used on the face of a watch. This watch would then have the unique feature of a color changing face. With the top polarized lens attached to the watch mechanics, the lens would rotate slightly and with each movement the color of the entire face would slowly turn into another color as it changes through the entire color spectrum cycle.

  • Patent number: 6713690
Abstract: An electronic balance including a housing (1), a weighing scale (2), a windshield (3), which preferably at least partially surrounds the weighing scale, and a display and operating unit (4) which is connected to the balance housing. The connecting part (5) between the display and operating unit (4) and the housing (1) consists essentially of a material with poor heat conduction properties. At least one vertical radiation protection plate (6) is provided between the display and operating unit (4) and the housing (1), and the connecting part (5) is configured in such a way as to impair air convection on both sides of the radiation protection plate(s) (6) preferably to the least extent possible. This results in excellent thermal decoupling between the display and operating unit (4) and the housing (1).

  • Patent number: 6706977
Abstract: A controller for a quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) sensor system and method for detecting mass deposition on a QCM sensor. The controller controls a QCM using temperature-, voltage- and current-regulating circuits, a microcontroller, an oscillator, heating and cooling devices and circuits, high voltage grids, digital-to-analog and analog-to-digital converters, data telemetry and uplink circuits, and a remote user. The remote user may be a person, computer, network or data logger. The remote user allows the controller to be reconfigurable during operation. The controller samples and reports data faster and is more reliable over extended periods of operation. Further, the controller is assembled using innovative techniques making it smaller and thus more transportable, easier to incorporate into existing facilities and less expensive to construct and operate. The apparatus may also be assembled in a modular fashion that allows for customization.

  • Patent number: 6700790
Abstract: In a circuit board comprising multiple layers and having an integrated circuit mounted on the outer layer thereof, a main power supply plane and a sub-power supply plane, which is disposed in an island fashion with a clearance that terminates electric connection with the main power supply plane, are formed on the same layer. The main power supply plane and the sub-power supply plane are connected by first power supply patterns that are formed on a layer different from the layer on which the power supply planes are formed and to which bypass condensers are connected. Power supply to some power supply terminals is achieved via second power supply patterns that are connected to the sub-power supply plane. The leakage of noise from the power supply terminals connected to the second power supply patterns is controlled by the first power supply patterns. Through this construction, the EMI noise radiated from the circuit board can be reduced while minimizing the number of bypass condensers.

  • Patent number: 6696650
Abstract: An electronic fish scale comprising a molded housing having upper and lower portions for supported hand grasping. An electronically controlled weight-sensing member and a viewable digital output screen are mounted within the housing. The output screen is electronically connected to the weight-sensing member whereby a weight held by gravity causes a digital numeric display on the output screen equal to the fish weight. A fish-engaging assembly extends downwardly from the weight-sensing member through an aperture formed in the bottom of the housing, and includes a pair of opposed c-shaped jaws. A longitudinally moveable jaw actuator is operably connected through a jaw control member via a rotation pin through diagonally extending aligned slots in the jaws whereby the jaws are opened when the jaw actuator is manually moved upwardly. A lower lip of a fish securely held and unhurt between the closed jaws will produce a digital display of the weight of the fish on the output screen.

  • Patent number: 6696649
Abstract: The total weight of a plurality of resin products is set as a reference value, and a first upper-limit threshold and a first lower-limit threshold are respectively stored in a control circuit 38 on the upper limit side and the lower limit side with respect to the reference value. A second upper-limit threshold which is yet greater than the first upper-limit threshold and a second lower-limit threshold which is yet smaller than the first lower-limit threshold are stored in the control circuit 38. When the total weight of the resin products is greater than the first upper-limit threshold, a determination is made by the control circuit 38 as to whether or not the total weight of the resin products is yet greater than the second lower-limit threshold. Further, when the total weight of the resin products is less than the first upper-limit threshold, a determination is made by the control circuit 38 as to whether or not the total weight of the resin products is yet less than the second lower-limit threshold.

  • Patent number: 6697261
Abstract: Conductive or solder bumps are stacked between a mounted component such as a BGA device and a printed wiring substrate in a multileveled printed circuit board unit. An interposer or relay substrate is interposed between the adjacent stacked conductive bumps. The interposer substrate is made of a porous material. When any difference in the expansion is caused between the printed wiring substrate and the mounted component, one side of the interposer substrate receives a relatively smaller displacement force while the other side of the interposer substrate receives a relatively larger displacement force. A shearing stress is induced in the interposer substrate. Deformation of the porous material serves to absorb the shearing stress in the interposer substrate. The conductive bumps bonded on one side of the interposer substrate as well as the conductive bumps bonded on the other side of the interposer substrate may be relieved from a shearing stress.
