Abstract: Mechanical strength of a composite material is enhanced by a simple process. In a composite material comprising a resin or a rubber and an oxide glass, the resin or the rubber is dispersed in the oxide glass, or the oxide glass is dispersed in the resin or the rubber, and the oxide glass is softened and fluidized by heating at or lower than a heat decomposition temperature of the resin or the rubber.

Abstract: Food, consumer, and industrial product packaging materials are provided by embodiments of the present invention. Films and laminates based on a combination of negatively charged polysaccharides are provided as such packaging materials. The films can be prepared by mildly treating soft wood with steam followed by alkali extraction and enzymatic treatment. Negatively charged non-cellulosic polysaccharides are isolated with weight average molecular weight Mw higher than 10,000 g/mol and molecular structure comprising a xylan main chain substituted with more than 15 molar % of glucuronic acid and more than 5 molar % arabinose. The negatively charged non-cellulosic polysaccharides can be casted from water solution on a suitable carrier and surface acetylated or coated with acetylated polysaccharide to obtain oxygen and water barrier packaging laminate. Inventive packaging materials can have strength at break above 55 MPa, elongation to break above 2.
Abstract: Sulfonamide based polymers are reaction products of sulfonamides and epoxides. The polymers may be used as levelers in copper electroplating baths, to provide good throwing power. Such reaction products may plate copper or copper alloys with good surface properties and good physical reliability.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a functionalized carbon nanoparticle prepared by modifying the surface of a carbon nanoparticle with C5-10 aryl or heteroaryl substituted with one or more hydroxyl groups, and a functional polymer fiber bound therewith. The functionalized carbon nanoparticles according to the present invention are tightly bound to the polymer fiber, thereby providing the polymer fiber with the properties of carbon nanoparticle. The properties of the carbon nanoparticle being further provided in addition to those of the polymer fiber, the polymer fiber is expected to further expand its scope of application.

Abstract: A system for dispensing texture material in a desired spray pattern that substantially matches an existing texture pattern on a target surface has a container assembly, an actuator assembly, and a concentrate comprising a solvent/carrier comprising water, wall texture material comprising at least one filler and a resin/binder, a first anti-corrosion material, where the first anti-corrosion material is a phosphate ester, and a second anti-corrosion material, where the second anti-corrosion material is sodium nitrite. At least one of the first and second anti-corrosion materials forms a film on the inner surface of the container assembly while the concentrate is stored within the container assembly. The film inhibits corrosion of the corrodible material forming at least part of the inner surface of the container assembly. The first and second anti-corrosion materials together comprise 0.125-7.00% by weight of the concentrate.
Abstract: Described herein are copolymers constructed from chiral, non-racemic monomers, which self-assemble to photonic crystals. The difficulty of incorporating chiral elements into photonic crystals has limited the ability to generate unique bandstructures for different circular polarizations of light. The materials and methods described herein relate to easily, predictably fabricating chiral photonic crystals having desirable optical properties.

Abstract: Flooring underlayments may be formed by combining an epoxy based resin component, a curing agent component, and an aggregate component. The resulting underlayment may be a lightweight material with a low viscosity that allows the underlayment to be self-leveling. Further, the underlayment may be designed for application in both wet and dry spaces. In certain embodiments, the underlayment may have a weight less than approximately 7.8 kg/m2 (1.6 lb/ft2) when applied at a nominal thickness of 0.635 cm (0.25) inches. Moreover, the underlayment may be designed to conform to the SOLAS requirements administered by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Specifically, the underlayment may be designed to conform to IMO Resolution MSC.61(67).
