  • Patent number: 4971643
Abstract: A method for retreading and partially replacing the belt of a pneumatic vehicle tire, possibly accompanied by the interposition of binder layers and the use of coatings. First the replacement belt ply or plies, and then the finish-vulcanized profiled tread strip, are placed upon the tire body. A pressure treatment, possibly at an elevated temperature, is then effected. In order, along with a relatively short vulcanizing or processing time in the vulcanizing apparatus, to be able to dispense with the use of steel bandages or sleeves, the replacement belt ply or plies are vulcanized prior to placing these plies on the tire body.

  • Patent number: 4954205
Abstract: The present invention is drawn to an improvement in a joining device for joining ends of cord reinforced belt-shaped materials, in which elastic belt-shaped material having a large number of cords embedded therein at equal intervals with a predetermined inclination is cut in the direction of the cords into a length somewhat shorter than an outer circumferential length of a drum to be fed with the belt-shaped material, the cut length being wrapped around the outer circumference of the drum, and the opposite cut end planar surfaces of the material being drawn towards each other and butt-joined by a splicer. The improvement resides in a splicer having a lateral movement device that is movable in a direction parallel to a shaft of the drum, a press device supported by the lateral movement device, and a splice roller pivotably supported at the bottom end of the press device.

  • Patent number: 4947916
Abstract: Pneumatic radial tires are disclosed which are comprised of two or more belt plies reinforced respectively with an aramid fiber cord and a steel wire cord. Both cords are coated with one and the same rubber composition made up of a selected class of starting rubbers, sulfer, resorcinol and/or its precondensate, hexamethoxymethylmelamine and a selected class of cobalt compounds derived from organic acids. The belt plies excel in water-resistant adhesion and heat resistance and thus have freedom from ply separation, contributing to a radial tire of improved durability.

  • Patent number: 4938822
Abstract: Electrode assemblies are provided such that a wire coil conductor is springingly secured into a tubular electrode or onto a pin without having to crimp, stake, weld, swage, or otherwise mechanically secure the wire coil electrode to the tubular electrode or pin. A simple assembly having high separation forces is provided by utilizing a wire coil electrode that, when untensioned, is either oversized with respect to the tubular electrode or is undersized with respect to the pin. Either the oversized wire coil electrode is rotated into the tubular electrode while reducing its oversized condition and placing same into a tensioned condition in order to secure it within the tubular electrode, or the undersized wire coil is rotated onto the pin in order to increase its undersized condition and simultaneously impart a tensioned condition thereto in order to springingly engage the wire coil electrode onto the pin.
