Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for displaying a web page on a computer screen. The method and system provide zoom in and out viewing of the web page as the web page is constructed. In accordance with the method, a browser determines whether web object display has exceeded a current zoomed view of the web page and zooms out the current zoomed view to accommodate additional web objects if display has exceeded the current zoomed view. The browser processes all of the web objects to display the entire web page with all of the web objects. The browser then zooms back into the current view of the web page to only an initial portion of the web page. A scroll indicator is displayed in conjunction with the current view of the web page to permit a user to access portions of the web page that are not displayed within the current view.

Abstract: A system and method that centrally manages desktop packages is provided allowing the administrator to recover component files previously sent to servers located throughout the organization. Applications are assigned to users and workstations. Self-contained desktop packages are transmitted to servers. The servers, in turn, provide the desktop packages to clients. The packages and the components included in the packages include unique identifiers used to identify the packages and components. A manifest is maintained detailing the individual components included in each of the self-contained desktop files. When a disaster event occurs at the administrator's computer system, the administrator retrieves the self-contained desktop files from the servers to which the packages were previously transmitted. The administrator repopulates the component libraries by unpacking the components from the self-contained desktop files.

Abstract: A system and method for directing a data processing system to incrementally process a base table and a materialized view, wherein the materialized view is associated with the base table, and both are stored in the system, is disclosed. The method includes setting integrity of the base table having an identifier identifying data newly load appended to the base table, and placing the identifier into a location if the location does not contain any other identifier identifying any other data newly load appended to the base table. In a preferred embodiment, the materialized view is incrementally refreshed using the identifier.

Abstract: An operation-enabling training and safety computer system and associated methods operable for selectively enabling and disabling a powered system including means for disabling the operation of the powered system, a display operable for presenting a user of the powered system with one or more questions related to training in the use of and safety associated with the powered system, one or more keys operable for transmitting one or more answers to the one or more questions from the user to the computer system, a processor operable for analyzing the one or more answers, and means for enabling the operation of the powered system if the one or more answers meet a set of predetermined criteria.

Abstract: Computing devices capable of internetworking and receiving, storing and viewing programmed (scheduled) television and multimedia content provide a platform for access to a combination of Internet and Television content and services. On this platform, a mix of pre-scripted and live interactive dialog (chat with offered responses) are broadcast by a connected server or servers to provide supplemental entertainment, information regarding programmed content, enhancements to scheduled television advertising, a community experience, and an interface to Internet applications and services. The dialog provides a “Social Interface” allowing fictional and non-fictional characters to interact with viewers. The fictional and non-fictional characters are each emblematic of a specific affinity group categorization, which a user personally identifies with and is drawn to. Selection of an affinity character also provides a filter for selecting internet and broadcast content associated with that character.

Abstract: An interface is provided for application sharing. An interface program facilitates application sharing by reducing it to a two step process hiding underlying details from a user. This interface program in cooperation with a conferencing program facilitates application sharing by enabling a user to select one or more files and one or more participants. Subsequently, this interface program automatically establishes application sharing. This interface program provides both an application list and a participant list to facilitate a user's selection thereof.

Abstract: A configurable controlling device and associated editor program that allows a consumer to create on a personal computer for downloading to the controlling device a user interface comprised of user interface pages having icons which icons, when activated on the controlling device, cause the controlling device to perform a function, such as to transmit a command to an appliance, to change the user interface page being displayed, etc. The editor program allows for the visualization of links created between user interface pages, single step assigning of commands to logical groups of function keys (both iconic and hard keys), single step assigning of backgrounds to groups of user interface pages, and pre-rendering of user interface pages prior to the downloading of the user interface to the controlling device.

Abstract: A device and also a system for generating a period-specific calendar view in an electronic device with a display for displaying information and a database for storing calendar data, wherein the method reads calendar data of the period from the database for a calendar view, wherein the period comprises a set of shorter periods which cover the period in a compiled manner, to be displayed in the calendar view, and wherein the calendar data comprise a set of user activities which are allocated to the shorter periods, and the calendar view is displayed on the display of the device by using the calendar data, wherein a quantitative distribution of the activities within the scope of the period is visualized in a three-dimensional bar chart, whose single bar structure illustrates a shorter period of time and its length dimension is dependent on the quantity of activities within the shorter period.

A presenter registers projector display data to a projector via an Internet in a user terminal. In the projector, prior to projection, the projector display data is rearranged in the stack area in accordance with the priority allocated to the projector display data. Upon the projection, a projecting device projects the projection contents based on the projector display data read from the stack area in reading order according to a stack storing system.

Abstract: A system and method for delivering a presentation electronically. The invention takes advantage of the multiple monitor capabilities of a computer operating system to display a “control panel” on the computer monitor or laptop screen that typically only the presenter will view. The presenter can use this control panel to view and control the presentation while the audience only sees a full screen slideshow. Providing this “presenter” view and control makes computer-based presenting much easier. The presenter can control the specific aspects of the slideshow from the private monitor using control buttons or keyboard shortcuts.

Abstract: An apparatus for display of multiple electronic documents. The apparatus includes one or more tilting, rotatable, and detachable display devices coupled to a display stand, or to a personal computer or other data processing apparatus via a hinge or the like. A screen control user interface running on the data processing apparatus is provided for switching electronic documents between the various display devices. One or more of the display devices may include a local memory, power supply, and application software so that the screen can be detached from the multiple document display apparatus and still display an electronic document. The displayed electronic document may then be marked up by a second user and returned to a first user for editing purposes.

Abstract: A system and method of providing for the control of a music player to a device driver. One embodiment of the system comprises an electronic music player that is connected to a plurality of music renderers via device drivers via a music renderer controller. The music renderer controller comprises a device integration application program interface for providing a standard interface for communicating with each of the device drivers. Each of the device drivers manage a selected music renderer. The device drivers can display a graphical interface for displaying notifications, customized controls, links to websites, or any other type of information desired by the manufacturer of the device driver. The device drivers can also customize the interfaces of the music render to rename textual elements that are displayed by the device driver. Furthermore, the device drivers can command the music player to suspend and resume playback of music items during selected periods.

Abstract: A method, apparatus, and computer readable medium for creating asides within an electronic document are provided. The keystroke combination is defined for creating an aside with an electronic document. If the keystroke combination is received, a location is identified within the electronic document for an aside object. Once the location for the aside has been determined, an outline object is created at the location. The outline object holds text or other contents for the aside. An insertion point is then placed within the object. The user may then enter keystrokes or other data into the second object. If the keystroke combination is again entered, the insertion point is returned to its location immediately prior to moving the insertion point to the aside object. The keystroke combination for creating an aside and the keystroke combination for returning from the aside may be identical. Asides may also be created in various portions of an electronic document, such as a title portion, in a similar manner.

Abstract: Methods and systems operating in accordance with the present invention provide an interactive directed data analysis tool. The tool provides a user interface that receives a model from a data mining system. The tool computes specified business metrics representing business measures of quality reflected by the model. The model parameters may be manipulated by a user. Each time parameters of a model change, the business metrics are re-computed, thereby promoting directed data understanding by allowing a user to immediately see the impact of any changes made.
