Abstract: Method for displaying user-configurable data in a table in a web browser application includes obtaining a copy of a table template, creating a file that defines table properties, performing a customization subroutine. The customization subroutine includes the steps of instructing a DHTML table component to pass one or more entries of the table properties file, setting one or more customizable table properties, recognizing a browser application and drawing a browser application page with a customized table.

Abstract: When a user is engaged in sensemaking using a media, the user's work involves navigating to previously visited view places in the workspace. To achieve this, a workspace is navigated by obtaining a history list that may include a degree of interest and/or location information related to previous view places, and navigating the workspace based on the history list. The workspace may be further navigated by retrieving the location information related to one of the previous view places from the history list, and displaying the previous places based on the location information. The history list may be constructed by detecting an activity in a current view place, determining a degree of interest of the current view place based on the activity, and storing the degree of interest and the location information.

Abstract: The invention includes computer instructions that detect a cursor in a proximity of a geometry piece of a mechanical design having multimedia associated with the geometry piece. Once the cursor is detected, the instructions automatically generate an icon associated with the geometry piece for accessing the associated multimedia. As a result, CAD model information is conveyed utilizing multimedia associated with one or more geometry pieces of the CAD model. In one embodiment, the computer instructions are part of a mechanical design software application. In one embodiment, the mechanical software application including the computer instructions is embodied in a distribution storage medium.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for a portable electronic imaging device, comprising a display screen for displaying objects including any combination of digital still images, video clips, menu items, and icons; and a navigation controller comprising navigation keys for allowing a user to navigate between the displayed objects, wherein the user may select a currently displayed object without moving a finger from a navigation key last pressed, thereby implementing navigation and select functions on a single controller.

Abstract: The present invention includes a system and a method for automatically authoring video compositions from longer units of digitized video (or a source video) by using short segments of video (or video “cliplets”). The video composition authoring process provides an aesthetically-pleasing layout of data elements to create a video composition. The data elements include multimedia elements, parameter information and description information. Any data elements that are missing but required are automatically selected by the system. The user may then review preliminary video composition results and refine the results if desired. The video composition authoring system includes an element selection and layout module for selecting the data elements in the video composition, and an iterative refinement module that allows the user to change and refine the preliminary results.

Abstract: A graphical user interface element for modifying parameters of a graphing widget includes a first slider bar with a first slider control operable to adjust a first parameter of a graphing widget, and a second slider bar with a second slider control operable to adjust a second parameter of the graphing widget. The parameters may be modified to adjust the a graphical representation of data displayed by the graphing widget.

Abstract: A method for navigating within a multi-level hierarchical collapsing menu structure is disclosed. Each level in the menu structure contains plural items, each item being at least one of a function, a pointer to a location, and a pointer to another level. The method of the present invention includes a step of providing a graphical user menu system displaying the items of a given level and enabling selection thereof, wherein access of the given level requires sequential access of each of the levels preceding the given level in the hierarchy. An Active Path is dynamically constructed as a sequence of active links as items are selected using the graphical user menu system, with one active link corresponding to each of the items selected. The active links provide direct access to a function corresponding level or menu item without the need to navigate using the graphical user menu system.

Abstract: A method for storing, displaying, and retrieving user-selected portions of software application data, display, and functional operations includes one or more 3-D objects portrayed on a computer display. The 3-D object has various onscreen data, 3-D object, text portion, switch, video/audio clip, or the like assigned to and displayed on facets of the 3-D object. The 3-D object is rotatable about at least one axes, so that each one of the six surfaces of the 3-D object may be brought into full visualization, while two other surfaces are partially visible. A plurality of 3-D objects may be combined for functional operations among corresponding files stored on the 3-D objects.

Abstract: System and method for synchronizing software execution in a computer system. Threads or processes executing in the computer system are synchronized via various types of synchronization objects. User input indicating a desire to specify a synchronization object operation is received, specifying a particular type of synchronization object on which to perform the operation, in response to which a graphical user interface, is displayed which is useable to specify a plurality of synchronization object operations, e.g., that are specific to a specified type of synchronization object. The graphical user interface enables the user to select a desired operation to perform on a synchronization object. The user may also specify additional configuration information for the operation.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a system and methodology to assist users with data access activities and that includes such activities as routine web browsing and/or data access applications. A coalesced display or montage of aggregated information is provided that is focused from a plurality of sources to achieve substantially one-button access to user's desired web or data source information/destinations in order to mitigate efforts in retrieving and viewing such information. Past web or other type data access patterns can be mined to predict future browsing sites or desired access locations. A system is provided that builds personalized web portals for associated users based on models mined from past data access patterns. The portals can provide links to web resources as well as embed content from distal (remote) pages or sites producing a montage of web or other type data content. Automated topic classification is employed to create multiple topic-centric views that can be invoked by a user.

In response to the message script, the message handler is invoked.

Abstract: A method for displaying a region of interest within visual information on a display screen of a computer, the region of interest including a focal region and a base region. The method includes the steps of: providing means for selecting at least one parameter for transforming at least one of the region of interest, the focal region, and the base region; selecting the parameter using the means for selecting; transforming the visual information in accordance with a predetermined distortion function and the parameter to produce transformed visual information; and, displaying the transformed visual information on the display screen.

Abstract: When a document generated from an application is printed, each page of the document is treated as a separate image Then, one or more templates are generated for a document, with each template containing common elements for a set of images in the document. For each set of images, sets of changes are identified. The templates and corresponding sets of changes to each image in a set of images may be reduced from one color space to another color space. The reduced templates and corresponding sets of changes are then compressed and formatted into a native file transfer format understood by a mobile computing tool, for transfer to a mobile computing tool, where the data is decompressed and images are rebuilt from the templates and corresponding sets of changes.

Abstract: The present invention provides a document processing method and system which implement display that improves efficiency and usability of edit operations when inserting, moving, or copying & pasting data, by taking full advantage of the feature of retaining data and set values hierarchically in the system. In document processing for editing a document consisting of multiple sets of original data, when a user moves a graphic object which represents a desired original by dragging it on the document in order to move or copy the desired original data to a certain position on the document, the present invention detects the boundary between originals in the document, nearest to the position of the cursor dragging the graphic object which represents the desired original, and displays an identifiable mark on the boundary between originals in the document.

Abstract: Methods are provided for configuring and invoking command sequences from a remote control (RC) keystroke in a multimedia system of networked devices. The configuring method comprises: selecting a multimedia configuration menu; selecting an RC key; selecting a multimedia command to associate with the RC key; selecting a multimedia source associated with the multimedia command; selecting a multimedia destination associated with the multimedia command; in response to associating multimedia commands with RC keys, generating an RC key map cross-referencing RC keys to multimedia commands; and, storing the RC key map in permanent memory.

Abstract: The handling of quoted material in an electronic environment is enhanced by using one or more quote bars. Quote bars permit quoted material to be treated as a single object and permit information about the source of a quote to be displayed. They also permit connection to a network address from which a quote may have originated. Using quote bars, the removal of copyright notices can be prevented.

Abstract: A logistics management system is described that includes a host computer that performs logistics management tasks for shipment items, and a user interface module that presents a user interface for the host computer. The user interface module presents a user interface to include an item selection region to receive shipment criteria, one or more activity regions to display a set of shipment items that match the shipment criteria, and an action input region to receive action input specifying one or more logistics management tasks. The host computing system automatically performs the specified logistics management task on a plurality of the items in response to the action input received from a user. In this manner, an action may be performed on multiple items related to an overall logistics management task with limited user input required.
