Abstract: The invention relates to oxazole ester compounds which have been found to be extremely effective ultraviolet stabilizers. The invention also relates to ultraviolet degradable organic compositions containing an amount of an oxazole ester composition to prevent such degradation. These stabilizers are effective in the presence of other additives commonly employed in polymeric compositions including, for example, pigments, colorants, fillers, reinforcing agents and the like. These ultraviolet stabilizers may also be incorporated into the organic compositions such as polymers by adding to the polymer melt or dissolved in the polymer dope, coated on the exterior of the shaped or molded article, film or extruded fiber.
Abstract: Certain 2-[5-(aryl or substituted aryl)-1,2,4-oxadiazol-3-yl] benzoic acids, salts and esters having the formula: ##STR1## where R is hydrogen, lower alkyl and agriculturally acceptable cations and aryl is phenyl, naphthyl and phenyl substituted by one or more halogen, trifluoromethyl, lower alkyl or lower alkoxy moieties, (e.g., methyl 2-[5-(3-trifluoromethylphenyl)-1,2,4-oxadiazol-3-yl] benzoate), in a method of controlling undesirable vegetation and a method of regulating the growth of desirable plants.

Abstract: Compounds having the formula ##STR1## wherein R is hydrogen or an acyl radical are prepared by chlorinating 3-acyl-oxazolidin-2-ones, followed by dehydrochlorination and optionally by saponification and reacylation. The compounds are useful as starting material for substitution and addition reactions and as vinyl monomers in homo- and copolymerizations, whereby oxazolidin-2-one rings containing polymers are formed. These polymers can be used as antistatic agents, dyeing auxiliaries and ion exchangers.
Abstract: 2-Phenyl-indole derivatives of the general formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 represents a hydroxy radical, a branched- or straight-chain alkyloxy group containing from 1 to 12 carbon atoms, an allyloxy or propargyloxy radical, a cylcoalkyloxy radical containing from 5 to 7 carbon atoms or a benzyloxy radical, R.sub.2 represents a hydroxy radical, an ethoxy, methylsulphonyloxy, benzenesulphonyloxy or toluenesulphonyloxy group and R.sub.3 represents a hydrogen atom, a hydroxy radical or a methoxy group. The said 2-phenyl-indole derivatives are useful in particular as stabilizers of polymers and co-polymers of vinyl chloride.

Abstract: The combination of a copper halide catalyst certain peroxidic compounds has been found advantageous for the oxidation of Schiff bases of the formula ##STR1## to the corresponding benzoxazoles ##STR2## wherein one of R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 is --NO.sub.2 and the other is --H, alkyl of 1 to 20 carbons, or --NO.sub.2 ; and R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are independently --H or alkyl of 1 to 20 carbons, with the proviso that R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 contain a total of 6 carbons. Benzoxazoles of the latter type have utility as organo-soluble, metallurgical extractants.
Abstract: Benzoxazoles substituted in the 2-position with a perfluoroalkylether radical and bis-benzoxazoles in which the 2-position carbon atoms of the benzoxazole rings are attached to one another with a perfluoroalkylene or perfluoroalkyleneether radical. The compounds are useful as anti-rust additives in grease formulations based on fluorine-containing fluids.
