  • Patent number: 7075944
Abstract: A frame for multiplexing multi-traffic frames of layers on a same carrier wave and an apparatus thereof is constituted by an overhead and a payload. The overhead is constituted by: a data length identifier indicating a frame or a payload length; a flow identifier indicating an attribute of the frame; and a frame header overhead error check (FHEC) storing a result obtained by converting bytes from the head to a specified M-th byte of the frame into a numerical value of n bytes according to a certain coding method. A maximum length of the payload is computed from the data length identifier of the overhead. In the payload, traffic for the layers 1 to 3 can be accommodated. Even if the ATM cell and the frame are multiplexed, since coding methods for the FHEC and the HEC are different, the ATM cell and the frame can be extracted individually.

  • Patent number: 7072329
Abstract: In a multi-layer telecommunications system which includes an application layer and a transport layer, differing transport technologies are interworked without terminating the application layer signaling or without involving a technology interworking in the control plane of the application layer (e.g., without interworking in the application signaling). In various illustrated embodiments, the application layer is a radio network layer of a wireless telecommunications system. In at least some embodiments of the present invention a transport layer interworking function is situated on an interface between two nodes of the radio access network (RAN). The interworking function can be located in a separate node which may be a node having both ATM and internet protocol (IP) interfaces. There are numerous modes of implementing the interworking of the present invention, regardless of which interface is affected (e.g., an Iur interface, an Iu interface, or an Iub interface).

  • Patent number: 7068644
Abstract: A wireless access gateway provides a telecommunications link between a packet switched network and a base transceiver station (BTS), the BTS enabling wireless communication with mobile stations in a wireless coverage area. A session manager controls sessions through the packet switched network, and a mobility server performs mobility management for mobile stations being served by wireless access gateways. A wireless access gateway includes a packet agent, a coding agent, a radio frequency (RF) manager, and a signaling control agent. The packet agent packetizes frames from the BTS into packets and depacketizes packets into frames for the BTS. The coding agent transcodes content contained in packets from a first format to a second format. The RF manager performs RF management of the BTS. The signaling control agent sends queries to and receives responses from the session manager to control the operation of the wireless access gateway.

  • Patent number: 7068642
Abstract: A system and method of propagating exclusion records between a plurality of networked call centers is provided. Each call center includes a CTI system having a dynamic data record exclusion system. The system includes an exclusion record exporter and an exclusion record importer interfacing the dynamic data record exclusion system at each networked CTI system, which export and import exclusion records that are generated at one CTI system to the remaining networked CTI systems. The method begins by maintaining at least one exclusion table including at least one exclusion record in a first call center's dynamic data record exclusion system. Then, the exclusion records, along with a list of the networked call centers to which the exclusion records should be sent, are sent to an exclusion record exporter, where they are saved in a transfer file. The exclusion record exporter then transfers each transfer file to a defined directory at an exclusion record importer at at least one other networked call center.

  • Patent number: 7054286
Abstract: This invention provides a highly flexible multiplexing scheme for Direct Sequence CDMA systems enabling the CDMA system to flexibly allocate CDMA channel resources between packet-switched broadcast channels and fast-circuit-switched dedicated channels in order to optimize system throughput. A method and system are provided for operating a communication system. The method has steps of: flexibly allocating CDMA channel resources between packet-switched broadcast channels and fast-circuit-switched dedicated channels in order to optimize system throughput, and employing a side channel as required to send all or a part of a total amount of data, depending on the total amount of the data. A bandwidth allocation scheme allocates a set of CDMA channels for burst packet-switched channels, and data is time division multiplexed over the set of burst CDMA channels providing a wide bandwidth data pipe for packet-switched data.

  • Patent number: 7054297
Abstract: A communications system includes base transceiver stations providing wireless services for mobile units. The system further includes a packet network coupling the stations to a gateway. To distribute information received for communication to a mobile unit, the gateway may encapsulate the information as a multicast packet addressed to a multicast address. This multicast address corresponds to a multicast group associated with the mobile unit. The packet network distributes copies of the multicast packet to a group of stations that are registered for the multicast group. These stations may then communicate information from the multicast packet to the mobile unit using wireless communications techniques.

  • Patent number: 7054318
Abstract: A method of indicating the length of a mini cells in a mobile telephony network. Non linear coding of a short fixed length field in the header of the mini cell is described. Either an extension bit method or an extension code method is used to extend the length field so as to increase the number of length values available for coding of the mini cell sizes. The length of a mini cell is indicated in the individual mini cell or is indicated indirectly using a CID/length mapping table. Mini cell sizes are changed during a connection and methods are described for doing this. Cell header reading devices for extracting user information of individual mini cells are described. • Patent number: 7042853
Abstract: The present invention provides an interactive two-way multimedia messaging service transfer method. A user sends a multimedia message to initiate the interactive 2-way transfer. A multimedia messaging service center sends the message to a multimedia messaging service dispatcher, so that the appropriate service provider is contacted according to the multimedia message. The digital multimedia content is obtained from the content service provider and a common service platform transforms the information into a multimedia message reply. Finally, the multimedia messaging service center sends the message to the user. The invention receives and transmits multimedia messages in order to provide the interactive two-way transmission system. In this way, mobile communication equipment users can access interactive content such as online games, anytime and anywhere.

  • Patent number: 7039071
Abstract: A method and a device are provided for triggering an uplink transmission in a cable modem. A number of time indicators (301) are received in a downlink direction. There is established knowledge about a total time offset related to propagation delays in a network from which the time indicators are received. There is also established knowledge about an allocated uplink transmission slot number determined in relation to the received time indicators. The total time offset is reduced into a remainder value that is smaller than the total time offset. A shifted slot counter (304, 405) is synchronized to a shifted time base (302, 303) which has an offset to the time base provided by the received time indicators (301), said offset being equal to said remainder value. An uplink transmission triggering signal is generated as a response to said shifted slot counter (405) giving a certain slot number.

  • Patent number: 7002920
Abstract: With the addition of high-speed data traffic to traditional CDMA cellular networks, there is a need to efficiently utilize system capacity so that the quality of service of existing voice and low-speed data users is maintained while new high-speed data users are added to the network. Methods and systems are presented that control allocation of power to users, quality of service requirements, and/or user activity levels to enhance capacity utilization. These methods and systems are based on a method for estimating the capacity of a CDMA carrier with both voice and data users using an interference-based analysis of the reverse link. In particular, the methods enhance capacity utilization in a multi-code CDMA network architecture, in which several codes are allocated to a single high-speed data user for parallel transmission.

  • Patent number: 7002971
Abstract: An asymmetric network system manages bandwidth allocation and configuration of remote devices in a broadband network. A modular architecture of the system permits independent scalability of upstream and downstream capacity separately for each of the upstream and downstream physical paths. Allocation of downstream bandwidth to requesting devices is made according to bandwidth utilization by other devices, bandwidth demand by the requesting remote device, class or grade of service by the requesting remote device or bandwidth guaranteed to other remote devices. Configuration parameters remotely managed by the network include device addresses (global and local), transmission credit values, upstream channel assignment and upstream transmit power level. Further, management of device configuration profiles and bandwidth allocation occurs through control and response packets respectively generated by the network and the remote devices according to network operating software located at both ends.
