  • Patent number: 5416669
Abstract: A light source apparatus for directing light from a light source into a plurality of optical fibers. The light source apparatus comprises a case which has an end, and the optical fibers are disposed at each end thereof and which encloses the light source. The case has on its inner wall a first group of ellipsoidal mirrors and a second group of ellipsoidal mirrors disposed symmetrically with respect to the light source. The light emitted from the light source is reflected by the first and second groups of ellipsoidal mirrors so as to be condensed on the end surfaces of the optical fibers to be outputted from the other end surfaces of the optical fibers. This arrangement can simultaneously offer a plurality of illumination sources and improve the efficiency of light condensation on the end surfaces of the optical fibers.

  • Patent number: 5415533
Abstract: The invention relates to a fuel injection pump for internal combustion engines, having a pump piston guided in a cylinder bore of a pump body, which pump piston defines a pump work chamber in the cylinder bore and which is axially driven by a cam drive counter to the force of a restoring spring. Each individual cylinder of the engine to be fed is assigned a fuel injection pump, which is inserted into a bore in the engine housing; at the same time, the engine housing serves as the pump housing. In order to limit frictional wear, which is caused by the back-and-forth motion of the roller tappet of the cam drive guided in the engine housing and to easily replace pump parts, a thin-walled slide bush is disposed between the roller tappet and the housing bore. The slide bush is fastened with radial play on the pump body and additionally prevents the roller tappet from slipping out and prevents the preassembled fuel injection pump from falling apart when it is not installed in the housing bore.

  • Patent number: 5415531
Abstract: A pump that is in essence leak-proof and prevents the escape to ambient atmosphere of environmentally hazardous fluent materials is comprised of an outlet block defining a pump chamber having a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet, a piston having one end reciprocable within the pump chamber and sealed to the outlet block, a piston rod connected to the other end of the piston for reciprocating the piston, a dynamic block secured to the outlet block and defining a sealed dynamic chamber within which the other end of the piston reciprocates, and an outlet from the dynamic chamber in continuous closed-circuit communication with a recirculating system for preventing escape into the environment of any fluent material that may leak past the piston seal. The pump also includes an articulated seal for sealing the piston rod to the dynamic chamber to maintain the sealed integrity of the chamber while at the same time accommodating reciprocation of the piston rod.

  • Patent number: 5412848
Abstract: This invention most generally relates to a clip mechanism assembleable to the back-side of an ornament member, most preferably jewelry objects or fanciful buttons and the like, to be displayed by removable attachment to clothing mainly through "button-holes" and used, for example, as tuxedo-studs, cuff-links, lapel-pins, etc. The clip mechanism may also be used with hooks or posts upon which may be placed, or hung, tools, pictures, or articles for display. The clip mechanism is removably insertable into a mounting hole or peg-board hole and because of the particular design of the clip mechanism will support the article hung on the hook or post. The clip mechanism is removable with a pulling force in a direction opposite the direction of insertion of the mechanism.

  • Patent number: 5413468
Abstract: A damper in a self-contained electrically operated fuel pump for vehicle engines incorporating a positive displacement pumping element. The damper has a hollow toroidal flexible element in contact with the liquid fuel discharged from the pump for absorbing pulsations. A retainer with a locating plate on one side of the damper centers it in the pump housing and has resilient circumferentially spaced, radial fingers extending over and around the periphery of the toroid to confine it against destructive expansion while permitting limited expansion and contraction needed to absorb fuel pressure pulsations in pump operation.

  • Patent number: 5413469
Abstract: To reduce a load applied to the thrust bearing, to prevent the thrust bearing from seizing and to improve the service life of the thrust bearing, the thrust bearing is provided between a drive shaft and a block to seal a high-pressure side space from a low-pressure side space. By providing an oil supply through hole, one end of which opens into high-pressure side space and the other end of which opens into a space formed by inserting the shaft into the insertion hole, high-pressure lubricating oil can be supplied to the space. The constric within the shaft with the effect of the constriction clearance is formed between the aforementioned oscillating shaft and the insertion hole, and a pressure differential between the two ends of the drive shaft is eliminated.

  • Patent number: 5413457
Abstract: A fuel pump structure which includes an electrically driven rotor in a sealed housing which has an inlet and an outlet. A single rotor in the housing has three operating areas. At the outer periphery are vanes operating in an annular sweep channel as a second stage, high pressure regenerative pump which discharges to the housing outlet. Radially within the outer periphery are two radially spaced series of blades forming axial passages in the rotor. The first and outer series of blades operate under a lateral channel to form a first or primary stage pump delivering to a central swirl chamber above and below the rotor. The second and inner series of blades and axial passages allow passage through the rotor to the lower swirl chamber which has a tangential outlet directed to the inlet of the regenerative second stage pump. The base of the lower swirl chamber has a central vapor outlet to allow vapor to leave the fuel which is entering the high pressure pump.

  • Patent number: 5411375
Abstract: An intake control valve for a screw-type compressor is built into the intake line, which it alternatingly opens or closes. The intake control valve, designed as a double seat valve, has a locking body (17), to which are assigned two opposing valve seats, namely a return flow seat (7) and an intake seat (9). Upon starting the screw-type compressor, the locking body (17) is pulled onto the intake seat (9) by means of the resulting intake pressure. As soon as a specific operating pressure is reached, the locking body (17) is lifted from the intake seat (9) by means of the pressure medium by way of a control cylinder (10) with a control piston (11) and moved into an intermediate position between its two seats (7, 9), so that the screw-type compressor can totally transport.

  • Patent number: 5411376
Abstract: A gear rotor fuel pump having a gear rotor pump assembly received on a cantilever bearing in an end cap of the pump and an armature journalled for rotation at one end in the bearing while being rotatably unsupported at its other end for preventing bearing misalignment and reducing pump noise. The end cap preferably carries a bellows modulator for reducing pump noise by reducing the amplitude of fuel pressure pulses transmitted to the bellows from the pump assembly through a port in the end cap. To further reduce noise, the end cap preferably has at least one cavity for receiving compressible gas therein to further absorb the pressure pulses as well as noise generated by turbulent fuel flow at a pump inlet.

  • Patent number: 5411388
Abstract: In a rotary screw machine, a shaft journal (7) of one of the rotors (6) is mounted in main thrust bearings (9, 10) and a balancing thrust bearing (11 ), the latter being located outermost on the shaft journal (7). The main thrust bearings (9, 10) are clamped towards the low pressure end of the machine. The balancing thrust bearing (11) is affected by a thrust balancing device for counter-acting the gas forces on the rotor (6), thereby reducing the force that has to be transferred by the main thrust bearing.
