  • Patent number: 5478218
Abstract: A rotary gas compressor and vacuum pump apparatus which utilizes a central rotor with a slot formed therein to slidably receive a piston eccentrically connected onto a disk which covers the slot to form a cylinder is disclosed. The distance between the rotor axis and disk axis is equal to the distance between the disk axis and the off-center shaft axis, with all axes being parallel. Upon rotation of the disk, the rotor rotates at one-half the rotational velocity of the disk causing the piston to reciprocate in the cylinder, with gas flowing into the increasing cylinder volume and being compressed and discharged in the decreasing cylinder volume. This cyclic process continues with continued rotation of the central rotor.

  • Patent number: 5478213
Abstract: A fuel injection pumping apparatus has a cam (9) actuated reciprocable plunger (13) housed in a bore (11) into which fuel flows from a fuel supply (7,14). An outlet (12) extends from a pumping chamber (13A) defined by the plunger and bore. A spill passage (19) communicates the pumping chamber with a spill valve (16) so that fuel from the pumping chamber which flows through the passage and spill valve (20) flows into a cylinder (21) containing a resiliently biased piston (17). The fuel which flows into the cylinder is returned to the pumping chamber during outward movement of the plunger and the fuel supply (14,7) ensures that the pumping chamber is completely filled with fuel. A safety valve (30,31) allows fuel to escape from the cylinder (21) in the event that the piston (17) sticks in the cylinder.

  • Patent number: 5476368
Abstract: A fluid pumping assembly for particular use in delivery of sterile fluid used in surgical procedures, includes a pump control structure to which a replaceable fluid pumping cartridge is connected and disconnected to provide convenient replacement and disposability of the cartridge. The pump cartridge is self-contained in that it includes a fluid pump which is adapted for automatic connection to a pump drive structure when the cartridge is inserted into the assembly, so that the sterile fluid is pumped only through the pumping cartridge and fluid flow is entirely isolated from the pump control structure to ensure that the fluid is maintained sterile during pumping. The cartridge can include a selectively activated pulsation control to enable discharging the fluid from the cartridge in either a continuous flow or pulsating flow of the fluid. The cartridge can also include fluid flow dampening and safety vent features.

  • Patent number: 5477442
Abstract: A lighting fixture for use in hazardous locations and adverse environments, includes a mounting plate and a first ballast housing. A second non-interchangeable ballast housing may be alternately employed by use of an adapter ring removably securable intermediate the mounting plate and the second ballast housing. The adapter ring comprises a top portion specially adapted to engage the mounting plate, with first fastening means associated therewith, and a bottom portion specially adapted to engage the second ballast housing, with second fastening means being associated therewith. The adapter ring allows the replacement of the first ballast housing with the second, wherein the first and second ballast housings are not identical and are produced by different manufacturers. The adaptor ring effectively seals the interfaces with the mounting plate and second ballast housing, thereby maintaining the integrity of the lighting fixture for its intended purpose.
