  • Patent number: 4747407
Abstract: A kit for the anastomosing of a blood vessel which includes a pair of anastomic wheels. Each wheel has an axially extending hollow body for the passing of a blood vessel therethrough and a peripheral extending flange. The periphery of the flange has a plurality of forwardly extending pins for piercing and holding the wall of a blood vessel passing through the hollow body and stretched outwardly across the flange and impaled on the pins, the wheels with the blood vessel end impaled on the pins thereof being brought together with the flanges abutting and the projecting pins on the flanges being bent over the opposing flange with the stretched blood vessel wall therebetween to join the blood vessel walls. Also included are a hook and pressing needle for stretching and impaling the blood vessel ball on the pins; and clasping pliers for clasping the wheels and bending the pins.

  • Patent number: 4747394
Abstract: A spinal retractor for use in lumbar or dorsal laminectomies or spinal fusions, and for microscopic lumbar laminectomies, which comprises a pair of parallel arms and a corresponding pair of toothed blades which are slidably received on the arms, the blades being forced apart from one another by the arms under the control of a rack and pinion mechanism. The blades are constructed so that their teeth and configuration serve to hold the lumbar musculature when they are forced apart and adequately to expose the facets, and the blades are also configured so that they will not slip out of the wound as they are spread apart by the retractor arms.

  • Patent number: 4746117
Abstract: Tubular baseball bats are provided with optimized power zones by weighting the bats between the swing axis and the knob end. By adding a specified amount of weight at a location within this weighting region, the sweet spot of the bat, in effect, may be greatly enlarged so that the sweet spot comprises a power zone extending inwardly from the outer end of the bat. The power zone therefore comprises the portion of the bat which travels at maximum velocity as the bat is swung into the ball, and the ball impacts within the power zone effectively transfers less than 10% of the impact impulse to the hands. The hit ball therefore travels faster and further.

  • Patent number: 4746121
Abstract: A ball positioned between three circular cross-section bars acting as support. The bars are substantially parallel and oriented generally vertically. One end of each bar is partly restrained but permits full rotation of the bar about its longitudinal axis, but only limited motion laterally. The other bar end is partly restrained by a structure and is controlled by an operator's hand for providing limited bar movement. Two of the bars have handles and the third bar position can be set and remains fixed during a game. The bar cross-section diameters vary lengthwise between bar ends. The ball is urged by means of one specially shaped first bar to move upward against a recall force. A second bar with handle is controlled by another hand. The combination of the variations of the bar diameters and shapes lengthwise with the recall force acting on the ball creates difficulties for the ball to move axially, though urged to do so.

  • Patent number: 4746118
Abstract: A batting aid for training a batter to keep his eyes on the ball thrown by the pitcher while the batter is swinging at the ball. The aid includes structure connected between the batter's helmet worn by the batter and the shoulder of the batter that will restrict movement of the batter's head during his swing at the ball. One embodiment employs a flexible strap which passes through the helmet and is secured about the batter's shoulder. Another verison uses a rigid member connected at an end to the helmet and at its opposite end with the batter's shoulder. Additional structure can be added to the opposite side of the helmet which engage the batter's opposite shoulder to further restrict the tendency of the batter to turn his head away from the pitched ball and lose eye contact with it during his swing.

  • Patent number: 4744347
Abstract: An archery game tracking device for tracking a game animal struck by an arrow upon subsequent movement by the animal through brush or forest. The device includes a dart that is releasably mounted to the arrow shaft and is fixed to a tracking line. A tracking line supply is connected to the bow. Upon impact of the arrow with a game animal, the dart penetrates the animal. If the animal dislodges the arrow or if the arrow passes through the animal, the dart will automatically separate from the arrow and will remain fixed to the animal and fixed to the tracking line. The hunter will still be able to track the fallen animal when it stops.

  • Patent number: 4744562
Abstract: A racket includes a head portion having a peripheral notch located therein. A string protector comprised of a connecting section having first and second resilient tongues is situated within the peripheral notch. Each of the tongues has an elongated projection extending therefrom such that the projections oppose each other. The connecting section also has tubular string guides extending therefrom for receiving a racket string. The force of the racket strings tends to push the string protector into the peripheral notch of the head portion, thereby forcing the resilient tongues toward each other so as to close over the strings.

  • Patent number: 4743253
Abstract: A suture ring including a continuous compression ring formed of a ductile, electrically conductive material and a layer of fabric secured around the compression ring. The compression ring is dimensioned slightly larger than the circumferential surface of a heart valve upon which it is to be secured, so that the suture ring can be slipped over the heart valve to a position adjacent the circumferential surface without radial expansion of the compression ring. The compression ring is deformed inwardly by electromagnetic forming to securely clamp the heart valve while permitting relative rotation between the suture ring and heart valve.

  • Patent number: 4742826
Abstract: A cicatrisive strip suture is formed from an elastic sheet material oriented on a bias so as to provide even compressive forces all along a wound. The sheet material includes a transparent central portion allowing visual alignment of the wound during suture application. Adhesive coated tongues extend outwardly from opposite sides of the central portion to engage the tissue on each side of the wound and hold the suture in proper position. The suture also includes doubled-over backing strips for simple application of the suture to the wound and a sanitary outer wrapper. A sterility bridge formed across the wrapper and suture maintains the sterility of the remaining portion of the suture when a segment of the suture is removed for use.
