  • Patent number: 4809986
Abstract: A regatta board game is disclosed in which a rectangular game board is laid off in a grid of squares established by a first series of parallel lines extending in a first direction and a second series of parallel lines extending in a second direction which is normal to the first direction. Some of the squares are designated as falling within a first, second or third category, the first category designating preliminary course marker positions, the second and third categories providing an indication that a player is to draw a card which partially determines the progress of play. A single eight-sided die is provided, and a plurality of players' tokens and a plurality of course marking pennants are also included among the game accessories, the pennants being each adapted to mark a selected one of the squares in the first category as a sequential position in a randomly selectable course set forth on a "Course Card" drawn just prior to the commencement of play.

  • Patent number: 4807882
Abstract: A random number selector is disclosed having a body generally in the form of a plate having three axially extending vertically spaced rectangular chambers formed in it. The three chambers are spaced from one another by a top generally rectangular part, two spaced intermediate parts and a bottom rectangular part, third rectangular parts extending from one side to the other. End parts closing the three chambers. The top of each rectangular part forming a shelf having half cylindrical shaped recesses. The recesses are adjacent one another so that the half cylindrical parts each engage the adjacent part so that the edge of each chamber has a sharp top edge. A transparent cover is supported over the front of the body and six red balls are received in the top chamber, four yellow balls in the intermediate chamber and three green balls in the lower chamber. A wedge shaped bead overlies the recesses and prevents the balls from rolling out when the selector is tilted back.

  • Patent number: 4807879
Abstract: A ball return/target for racquet sports includes a resilient pad and at least one disk suspended from the pad by a filament. The pad is flexible polyurethane open cell foam of a thickness to cause a projectile hitting it to be deflected back at the source. The disk is a double thickness of fabric or like material with two faces, each face visually distinguishable from the other. When a projectile hits the suspended disk on one face, the disk rotates 180.degree. exposing the other face to give evidence that the target had been hit.

  • Patent number: 4807628
Abstract: A method and apparatus for storing and automatically dispensing and applying surgical staples in serial fashion includes a pistol-like tool having means for storing a large plurality of staples in parallel, stacked column fashion aligned along the longitudinal (barrel) axis of the tool. A form tool and an anvil tool extend longitudinally parallel to the axis, and are advanced in synchronism by actuation of a trigger lever. The form tool includes a pair of arms which impinge upon and rotate the legs of the staple about the web portion thereof to dispose the staple in a points-first dispensing orientation. The form tool advances the staple to the distal dispensing end of the tool, where it drives the staple into a portion of the anvil and crimps the staple thereabout. Release of the trigger causes an elevator member to separate the next distal staple inthe column from its column alignment into postion to be engaged by the anvil tool and form tool at the start of the subsequent dispensing cycle.

  • Patent number: 4805911
Abstract: In one embodiment, the golf club stand includes an elongated member having a stand section that is hinged at one end to a support section, both sections comprising the elongated member and being substantially disposed within the golf club handle when the stand is in an inoperative mode of operation. At the other end of the stand section is a stand head that is adjacent to terminal end surface of the golf club handle grip when the stand is in the inoperable mode. An interface coupling is mounted to the terminal end of the grip. The coupling has a through passage within which is slidably disposed the stand section. In an operative mode, the hinged end of the stand section is disposed outside the grip of the golf club and the stand section rotates in a plane normal to the plane of the golf club head. The support section substantially remains within the golf club handle during this standing mode of operation.

  • Patent number: 4805900
Abstract: An upright mechanical arm is pivoted to a freestanding base for grasping by a player to simulate an arm-wrestling contest. The arm is power-driven in a given direction by a hydraulic jack. The force applied by the jack is adjustable. Switches detect grasping of the mechanical arm by the player and positioning of the player's elbow on an elbow pad. Such switches are interconnected with control of the hydraulic jack to cut off the supply of hydraulic liquid automatically. Bells and buzzers can be provided to indicate when the game has been "won" or "lost" by the player.

  • Patent number: 4805599
Abstract: For use in back surgery, a known kneeling attachment to an operating table has a platform on which a patient kneels with the torso positioned over one end of an operating table and the buttocks resting against the padded crosspiece of a rigid U-shaped yoke. The invention concerns a substantially rectangular rigid frame which can be mounted on the yoke with an outboard crossarm of the frame attached to the crosspiece of the yoke and the inboard end of the frame attached to the arms of the yoke. The frame is useful for supporting surgical instruments such as retractors at a surgical wound, in particular a retraction device that a surgeon can adjust with one hand, even without looking. The frame also makes possible a new surgical procedure by which a dislocated vertebra can be moved into position by a lifting mechanism suspended from the frame.

Abstract: A chess game having a circular chess game board and 32 chess pieces. The game board is subdivided into four equally sized quadrants where each quadrant represents an 8.times.8 chess game board. The quadrants form a pattern of eight concentric rings of spaces. Each group of 16 chess pieces, one group for each player, is initially positioned to occupy the spaces on the two outermost concentric rings. A first group occupies two quadrants and a second group occupies the two other quadrants. The game provides 3 modes of play. Each mode of play requires a different limitation of the movement of chess pieces within the quadrants.

  • Patent number: 4804190
Abstract: An entertaining board game for pre-school-age children and children in the primary grades. The board game comprises a path of globe shaped spaces having a starting point and an ending point. Each globe shaped space is distinguished by a color or a picture depicted thereon. Corresponding to the globe shaped spaces are playing cards each either having a colored globe, a picture, or a colored globe and picture thereon. Players move by selecting by chance a card, matching the color of the globe or picture on the card with a corresponding globe shaped space and moving to the appropriate globe shaped space according to the rules. Thus, the game is designed to introduce outer space through color matching and picture matching. Rhymes and mythology as stated on certain cards is also introduced giving the child a unique experience or adventure on the pictured places as pictured on the playing cards, but it is not necessary to read in order to play the game.
