  • Patent number: 5238274
Abstract: A device is suggested which serves to lock and unlock closed doors of a motor vehicle. The device comprises a lock which is assigned to every door, can be actuated with a key and whose locking element is swivelably supported at the door and whose retainers, which cooperate with the latter, are arranged near the door opening so as to be fixed with respect to the body of the vehicle. The locking element is a structural component part which is spring-loaded relative to the unlocking position and engages behind the pin-like retainers with a hook-shaped projection in its locking position. The locking element has two catches which together enclose an angle with reference to the swivel axis of the locking element, which catches cooperate with counter-catches of a swivelable latch element which are spring-loaded relative to the catch position.

  • Patent number: 5236235
Abstract: A rose retaining system comprising a mounting plate, rose, rose mounting screw and washer. The mounting plate is mounted to the door by screws passing through holes in the mounting plate. The rose plate is mounted to the mounting plate by the rose mounting screw. The rose mounting screw has a externally threaded tubular portion which passes through the center of the rose and is threaded into the internally threaded tubular projection of the mounting plate. The rose mounting screw is threaded until the slotted collar contacts the recessed shoulder of the rose plate. The key is then used to tightened the rose mounting screw, securing the rose plate in the desired position. The key can be used whether or not the spindle is mounted through the axially aligned openings of the mounting plate, rose and rose mounting screw. After mounting is completed, the exterior surface of the collar of the rose mounting screw is recessed below the outer surface of the rose mounting plate.

  • Patent number: 5234236
Abstract: A pawl assembly comprising a threaded shaft of noncircular cross section, a pawl of generally elongate shape having a circular through hole, and a clip that is nonrotatably mounted on the shaft and which contacts the pawl to prevent rotation thereof. The clip has a noncircular through hole that corresponds to the noncircular cross section of the shaft and a bent portion that contacts a side surface of the pawl to prevent rotation. By using such a clip, the pawl can be oriented in multiple angular directions while also providing for precise axial placement on the shaft. The pawl assemblies may be used in latches for cabinets and the like.

  • Patent number: 5234238
Abstract: A ratchet type latch assembly, which can reliably lock a closing member to a stationary frame even if the relative positions of a lockable member and a latch member are shifted. The latch member is pivoted by a pivotal pin to rear end portions of a pair of bearing arms attached to a latch case. A pawl lever is pivoted by a pivotal pin to central portions of the bearing arms. The latch member has an arcuate edge formed on the side of its pivotal pin opposite its guide projection and about its pivotal pin, the arcuate edge being formed with a train of ratchets The pawl lever has its rear end portion provided with a check pawl latch for engagement and disengagement with respect to the ratchet train. The latch lever is urged against the pawl lever by a torsion spring. An operating handle is pivoted to a front plate member of the latch case, and can be lifted manually to release the latch member from the lockable member of the stationary frame.

  • Patent number: 5234237
Abstract: A modular latch assembly is disposed in a sliding van door for unlatching the van from a closed position and actuating a roller latch release so that the door can be moved from the fully open position. The latch assembly includes interior and exterior handles pivotally mounted relative to a mounting plate. The handles alternately engage and forcibly rotate a crank bar supported on the mounting plate. A motion transmitting core element extends from the crank bar to a rear latch supported on the door for controlling the rear latch. An interior lock button and an exterior lock cylinder move the crank bar into and out of operative engagement with the interior and exterior handles. The interior and exterior actuator handles also control a roller latch release mechanism supported on the mounting plate.

  • Patent number: 5228728
Abstract: A release sleeve used with quick connect tube connectors includes a plurality of planar surfaces at an outer peripheral surface which bias retainer legs radially outwardly to allow removal of a tube. The use of planar surfaces provides a greater contact area than prior art release sleeves, thus reducing the amount of force necessary to allow tube removal. In a further feature of the present invention, the release sleeve has grooves at an outer peripheral surface which allow passage of indicator legs such that the release sleeve may be used in combination with an indicator used to give an indication that a tube is fully connected.

  • Patent number: 5228731
Abstract: A locking pin assembly for sliding members comprises a member having bifurcated portions insertable within a hole extending through the sliding members. The bifurcated portions are adapted to be cammed apart by a bar supported for slidable movement within the bifurcated portions thereby securely wedging the pin in the hole and locking the sliding members together. In one preferred embodiment, the bifurcated portions are supported in a sleeve and are joined to a handle portion extending through the other end of the sleeve. Actuation between a locked and unlocked position is effected by movement of the sleeve relative to the handle portion. In an alternative embodiment, the camming bar is omitted, and locking action is carried out instead by causing slidable movement of one wedging portion relative to another.

  • Patent number: 5228730
Abstract: A conversion apparatus has a magnetic latching solenoid equipped with a special plunger shaft and piston mechanism which can move independently of the plunger, allowing mechanical locks to operate with momentary battery power. The plunger shaft is bored to accept the piston which consists of an inner shaft and a locking pin. The locking pin and inner shaft are secured to the plunger shaft with a light spring. With this mechanism, the operation of locking and unlocking is complete, regardless of readiness of the locking device, since the locking pin will move to the intended position of locking/unlocking after momentary prevention such as premature twisting of the lock knob.

  • Patent number: 5222776
Abstract: A seal and lock includes a flexible metal cable held permanently at one end in a housing, the other end being insertable through the housing and is locked therein by a spring-biased ball which wedges against the cable upon an attempt to pull the cable from the housing. A second ball is located between the spring and the first-mentioned ball, and wedges against the cable to further prevent removal thereof and to prevent twisting of the cable as a way of removing the cable from the housing. The second ball is of sufficiently soft material so that the cable when pulled digs into the second ball to increase the jamming force against the cable.
