  • Patent number: 9744486
Abstract: A filter device has filter elements (23) received in a filter housing (1) with a filter inlet (19) and a filter outlet (21). Flow passes through the filter elements (23) for a filtration or backwash in both directions. At least one filter element (23) performs the filtration. At least one other filter element (23), for cleaning off its active filter surface, can be backwashed by a backwash appliance. For supporting the backwashing, the appliance contains a pressure control (43) having a pressure control element (45). During a backwash operation, the fluid flow is controllable in a fluid connection between filter inlet (19) and the filter element (23) that is to be cleaned off. The fluid connection has a connection space (29) having element openings (27), each of which can be connected to an open end of the filter cavity forming the unfiltered side of each filter element (23). A fluid pathway (27) is provided via which, during the filtration, unfiltrate flows into the connection space (29).

  • Patent number: 9708924
Abstract: The combined pump and energy recovery turbine includes at least one fluid flow pressurizing a sliding vane pump and a sliding vane energy recovery turbine that recovers energy from a second fluid flow, such as the brine discharge from an RO seawater desalination system. A cylindrical rotor has two sliding vanes in respective slots, the rotor being concentrically disposed within an oval-shaped enclosure defining two mirror image crescent-shaped chambers, each chamber having inlet and outlet passageways. The first chamber pressurizes the first fluid flow, and the second chamber functions as a second outflow-driven energy recovery turbine, thus enabling the single rotor device to operate as a pressurizing pump on the first fluid flow, and second outflow-driven energy recovery turbine recovering energy from the pressure drop in the second fluid flow.

  • Patent number: 9709492
Abstract: A filter press having a plurality of stackable filter plate assemblies comprises at least one turbidity sensing module [20, 220, 320, 420] coupled to a first filter plate assembly [1] within the plurality of stackable filter plate assemblies. The turbidity sensing module [20, 220, 320, 420] is generally positioned between a filtrate drain opening [8a-d] communicating with a filter chamber [14], and either a filtrate port [7, 13] or filtrate discharge tube [4g, 15], in order to determine a level of turbidity of filtrate [50] exiting said first filter plate assembly. Turbidity levels may be determined independently of turbidity levels of filtrate [50] exiting other filter plate assemblies [1] within the filter press. When turbidity levels reach a predetermined threshold, and alarm [80] is activated, which informs an operator of the need to replace a filter cloth associated with the affected filter plate assembly [1].
