  • Patent number: 4709485
Abstract: A cylindrical alignment housing is fixed to a housing of one of two axially aligned items of equipment. A cylindrical bearing housing is concentrically positioned around the cylindrical alignment housing, such that the cylindrical bearing housing is rotatably supported at a given position on the cylindrical alignment housing, which is fixed to the housing of the aforesaid one item of equipment. A mechanical coupling is provided between the bearing housing and the shaft of the other of the two equipment items that the bearing housing and the shaft will rotate in concert. A laser is positioned on the rotatable bearing housing and a prism is positioned on the other of the two items of equipment. The cylindrical bearing housing and the shaft of the aforesaid other equipment item are rotated together in concert, and measurements are taken using the laser and prism to determine whether the shafts are properly aligned with each other.

  • Patent number: 4700482
Abstract: A galvano-plastically produced graduation carrier comprising fine perforations located within a perforation zone wherein stability enhancement regions in the form of prominences and depressions in the embodiment are located outside the perforation zone. The stability enhancement regions enhance the ability of the graduation carrier to be self-supporting. The area of the graduation carrier within the perforation zone can therefore be made thinner than other areas of the graduation carrier. This provides a graduation carrier which not only has improved edge sharpness and fineness of the perforations but also a high bending rigidity and improved handleability.

  • Patent number: 4700488
Abstract: A substrate to be imprinted with a printed circuit has a pair of locating holes. The substrate is aligned and fixed relative to the drum of a screen printing machine via a pair of aligning and fixing devices each of which has a locating pin receivable in a locating hole. Each of the locating pins is axially divided into two parts which are urged into engagement with one another via a set of springs but can be spread apart against the action of the springs. When the two parts of a pin are in contact with each other, the width or diameter of the pin is substantially smaller than the diameter of the respective locating hole. On the other hand, the width or diameter of each pin in the spread condition equals the diameter of the associated locating hole. The substrate is placed on the aligning and fixing devices while the two parts of each pin engage one another so that the pins can be readily received in the locating holes.

  • Patent number: 4697347
Abstract: A pair of photographs of the same object taken from different positions and fixed to a single carrying plate the position of which can be adjusted in a first plane. Three measuring devices are associated with the carrying plate for determining the coordinates of the plate to indicate the distance and angle of the plate relative to a fixed reference system. Binocular optical means includes two measuring marks respectively having lines of sight intersecting said two photographs. The lines of sight are parallel to one another and lie in a plane disposed perpendicular to the first plane. One of the marks can be moved relative to the other so that the lines of sight may intersect identical points on the two photographs. A fourth measuring device is provided for measuring the distance between said lines of sight. The outputs from the four measuring devices are fed into a computer for deriving three dimensional quantitative information about the object.

  • Patent number: 4696112
Abstract: A bore hole navigator utilizing a two axis directional gyro on the inner frame of the navigator and a single axis accelerometer on the outer frame is disclosed. This allows the inner frame of the navigator and thus the entire navigator to be smaller in diameter, both because of the removal of the acceleration axis to the outer gimbal and because the electrolytic level sensor, if used, is much smaller than a single axis accelerometer. The overall smaller diameter is maintained by using a belted design wherein the gyro/electrolytic level sensor, the inner frame torquer/gear and the inner frame resolver are connected in series along the length of the navigator, with a high gear reduction ratio on the inner frame torquer providing a positive drive within a smaller diameter. This configuration, together with unique calculation algorithms allows smaller diameter and deeper holes to be surveyed.

  • Patent number: 4694584
Abstract: A high resolution, digital inclinometer having a full 360.degree. linear range with accuracy which is independent of the angle of inclination. The linearity of the inclinometer is essentially flat throughout its range and greatly exceeds analog equivalents. A mathematical model to predict resolution is presented which allows the designer to design the device to maximize resolution at transverse angles. The device can be used in a celestial navigational instrument by storing celestial navigation tables and providing clock and inclination angle information so that the device can be pointed at particular stars and a latitude and longitude calculated. The inclinometer is capable of minimizing effects of pressure and/or temperature which cause microbubbles to form within the supporting fluid.
