    Abstract: A normally rigid plastic pipe is shaped by softening a selected zone of the pipe, inserting into the softened zone a resiliently deformable mandrel and pressing axially on opposite sides of the mandrel. This expands the mandrel radially into frictional engagement with the softened pipe zone. Contemporaneously the mandrel is shortened axially, thereby correspondingly expanding radially and shortening axially the softened portion of the pipe while proportionately thickening its side walls.

    Abstract: A continuously operable press utilizing facing endless linked together platen belts for compressing chip materials into chipboards, fiberboards, and the like. A plurality of pressure rollers are provided along the belts for pressing the same towards one another along the portion of their travel paths where they are in facing relationship. With the belts travelling horizontally at the position of their facing runs, these pressure rollers are biased by piston-cylinder apparatus or the like in a vertical direction. For accommodating adjustment of the position of the pressure rollers in the horizontal direction, without necessitating stoppage of the press, needle bearings are provided between supports for the bearings of the pressure rollers and the fixed press frame. Adjusting means in the form of piston-cylinder apparatus are provided for effecting the horizontal adjustment of the bearing supports for the pressure rollers.

Compressed air, a compressible expandable rubber body, die or an inflatable rubber body is present in the space bounded by the two mandril parts and the inner surface of the tube.     Abstract: An apparatus and method for forming uniform patties from a mass of agglomerable edible material. The apparatus includes a supporting frame, drive means for operating the apparatus, a hopper, and a rotatable turret including a plurality of cavities radially aligned therein. Each cavity has a barrier means mounted for reciprocal movement therein including a working surface which together with a portion of the cavity forms a mold. Means in said hopper moves material therethrough and into each mold as it is rotated on the turret to a position in communication with the hopper. The patty is formed as the turret continues rotation and then the mold moves out of communication with the hopper. The barrier means reciprocates in the cavity and discharges the patty therefrom while maintaining its shape as formed The barrier means is removable and may be combined with a stationary core for changing the shape of the mold.

    Abstract: An apparatus for at least partially forming a brassiere having a pair of male molds provided with substantially conical outer surfaces, which molds are movably supported on a first support device so that the spacing between the molds can be selectively varied. A die assembly is spaced opposite the molds and has a pair of circular openings extending therethrough, which openings are aligned with the molds. Clamping devices are provided for supporting a sheet of flexible material adjacent the die assembly so that the material extends across the openings. A driving device, such as a pressure cylinder, causes relative reciprocating movement between the die assembly and the molds, as by being connected to the molds, so that the molds are linearly advanced toward the die assembly so that the molds project through the openings in the die assembly and deform the material into a pair of cups. Heating means are associated with the apparatus for causing heating of the deformed material.

    Abstract: A combination injection means, mold handling apparatus, and mold is disclosed which is capable of being attached to a conventional compression style press without undue modification thereof to thereby greatly enhance the efficiency thereof. The invention includes an injection cylinder and bracket means for attaching the same to the frame of the press without modification thereof and a manifold associated with the injection cylinder. A multi-plate mold structure is also disclosed which is capable of being incrementally indexed into and out of the press and also indexed into position for filling by the injection cylinder. Alternate mold assemblies are provided so that one can be located interiorly of the press for curing purposes, while the other is being stripped. A runner system is also provided in the manifold to enhance the efficiency of filling multiple mold cavities with a minimum of waste, and also means are disclosed for separating the press for removal of the cured part.

    Abstract: An apparatus for vacuum embossing sheet thermoplastic material which utilizes an endless, seamless structure as the embossing surface. A sheet of heat-softened thermoplastic film is passed over an embossing screen, the embossing screen being supported by a support roll, a drive roll and two seal rolls. A vacuum is applied to the screen between the seal rolls to pull the film into contact with the screen thereby producing an embossed pattern on the film corresponding to the outer surface of the screen. After the film is removed from the endless, seamless screen the film is cooled to set the pattern in the film. The process produces an embossed film which has high strength, low surface gloss or light reflectance, and a deep embossed pattern.
