Patent number: 3986810Abstract: A normally rigid plastic pipe is shaped by softening a selected zone of the pipe, inserting into the softened zone a resiliently deformable mandrel and pressing axially on opposite sides of the mandrel. This expands the mandrel radially into frictional engagement with the softened pipe zone. Contemporaneously the mandrel is shortened axially, thereby correspondingly expanding radially and shortening axially the softened portion of the pipe while proportionately thickening its side walls.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 1975Date of Patent: October 19, 1976Assignee: Western Plastics CorporationInventors: Harvey W. Continuously operating press for manufacture of panels, such as chipboards, fiberboards, or the like
Patent number: 3985489Abstract: A continuously operable press utilizing facing endless linked together platen belts for compressing chip materials into chipboards, fiberboards, and the like. A plurality of pressure rollers are provided along the belts for pressing the same towards one another along the portion of their travel paths where they are in facing relationship. With the belts travelling horizontally at the position of their facing runs, these pressure rollers are biased by piston-cylinder apparatus or the like in a vertical direction. For accommodating adjustment of the position of the pressure rollers in the horizontal direction, without necessitating stoppage of the press, needle bearings are provided between supports for the bearings of the pressure rollers and the fixed press frame. Adjusting means in the form of piston-cylinder apparatus are provided for effecting the horizontal adjustment of the bearing supports for the pressure rollers.Type: GrantFiled: January 23, 1975Date of Patent: October 12, 1976Assignee: Bison-werke Bahre & Greten GmbH & Co. Patent number: 3982871Abstract: An installation for forming a tube of thermoplastic material with a socket having an external bead thereon, by pushing the tube end on a mandril consisting of two, spaced apart, axially movable mandril parts, and moving the two mandril parts towards each other while the outer surface of the tube is gripped by a mould having an internal recess corresponding to the bead to be formed on the tube. Compressed air, a compressible expandable rubber body, die or an inflatable rubber body is present in the space bounded by the two mandril parts and the inner surface of the tube. The length of the tube between the two mandril parts in their initial position is at least equal to the length of the bead to be formed.Type: GrantFiled: February 20, 1974Date of Patent: September 28, 1976Inventor: Adolf Moddel

Patent number: 3982720Abstract: Candles are cast in multiple, tubular, upright molds set in a housing having a normally horizontal top plate, the molds having spherically arcuate top end portions which slightly project beyond the top plate so that a unitary body of molten wax which initially fills the molds and covers the top plate shrinks during its solidification sufficiently that the top end portions of the molds are exposed, and the wax in the molds pulls away from the wax on the top plate, whereby manual finishing of the candle ends may be avoided.Type: GrantFiled: March 4, 1974Date of Patent: September 28, 1976Assignee: Spezial-Maschinenfabrik Hans KurschnerInventor: Herbert Inderbiethen

Patent number: 3982035Abstract: An apparatus and method for forming uniform patties from a mass of agglomerable edible material. The apparatus includes a supporting frame, drive means for operating the apparatus, a hopper, and a rotatable turret including a plurality of cavities radially aligned therein. Each cavity has a barrier means mounted for reciprocal movement therein including a working surface which together with a portion of the cavity forms a mold. Means in said hopper moves material therethrough and into each mold as it is rotated on the turret to a position in communication with the hopper. The patty is formed as the turret continues rotation and then the mold moves out of communication with the hopper. The barrier means reciprocates in the cavity and discharges the patty therefrom while maintaining its shape as formed The barrier means is removable and may be combined with a stationary core for changing the shape of the mold.Type: GrantFiled: September 20, 1974Date of Patent: September 21, 1976Inventor: Gerald J. Patent number: 3981670Abstract: An apparatus for at least partially forming a brassiere having a pair of male molds provided with substantially conical outer surfaces, which molds are movably supported on a first support device so that the spacing between the molds can be selectively varied. A die assembly is spaced opposite the molds and has a pair of circular openings extending therethrough, which openings are aligned with the molds. Clamping devices are provided for supporting a sheet of flexible material adjacent the die assembly so that the material extends across the openings. A driving device, such as a pressure cylinder, causes relative reciprocating movement between the die assembly and the molds, as by being connected to the molds, so that the molds are linearly advanced toward the die assembly so that the molds project through the openings in the die assembly and deform the material into a pair of cups. Heating means are associated with the apparatus for causing heating of the deformed material.Type: GrantFiled: September 6, 1974Date of Patent: September 21, 1976Assignee: Central Corsetera S.A.Inventor: Jean Michel Bloch Levy

Patent number: 3977819Abstract: Apparatus for bending rigid extruded thermoplastic resin shapes without significant deformation of the cross-sectional configuration of the shape is described. The bending apparatus includes a rigid die member which has a convex die surface configured to mate intimately with a portion of the cross-sectional configuration of the shape to be bent prior to and during the bending process. The convex die surface defines the desired curve to which the shape is to be bent. A flexible die is configured to mate intimately with substantially the remainder of the cross-sectional configuration of the shape. Heating fluid passages are provided through both the rigid and flexible dies for application of a heating fluid, preferably saturated steam where the shape is made of rigid vinyl, directly to the shape for conditioning of the shape for bending.Type: GrantFiled: May 21, 1974Date of Patent: August 31, 1976Inventor: John I. Patent number: 3976415Abstract: An injection moulding machine used in conjunction with a closed split mould, has its shot volume controlled by a device which responds to widening of the mould parting line occurring when the mould is completely filled with moulding material as a result of the pressure build up which occurs inside the mould. Contactless sensing of widening of the parting line is described, by means of electromagnetic sensing devices. The shot volume can thus be held at the optimum value at which minimum flash occurs and complete filling of the mould is assured.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 1973Date of Patent: August 24, 1976Assignee: Bucher-Guyer AG MaschinenfabrikInventors: Hans Ulrich Hauser, Eduard Hartmann

Patent number: 3966383Abstract: An apparatus for vacuum embossing sheet thermoplastic material which utilizes an endless, seamless structure as the embossing surface. A sheet of heat-softened thermoplastic film is passed over an embossing screen, the embossing screen being supported by a support roll, a drive roll and two seal rolls. A vacuum is applied to the screen between the seal rolls to pull the film into contact with the screen thereby producing an embossed pattern on the film corresponding to the outer surface of the screen. After the film is removed from the endless, seamless screen the film is cooled to set the pattern in the film. The process produces an embossed film which has high strength, low surface gloss or light reflectance, and a deep embossed pattern.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 1974Date of Patent: June 29, 1976Assignee: Ethyl CorporationInventors: Francis H.
