    Abstract: This invention provides a magneto-optical recording medium comprised of a substrate, a base layer of zinc oxide or indium oxide sputtered onto the substrate and a multilayer recording film sputtered onto the base layer of zinc oxide or indium oxide, wherein the base layer or zinc oxide or indium oxide is from about 200 A to about 4500 A (about 20 nm to about 450 nm) thick, preferably from about 200 A to about 2000 A (about 20 nm to about 200 nm) thick, the multilayer recording film is a platinum/cobalt or a palladium/cobalt multilayer film consisting of alternating layers of platinum and cobalt or palladium and cobalt, and the substrate is transparent to the radiation used to record and read.

The silicone-urea block polymer functions as a release coating when the image sheet is used in electrographic processes. Excellent transfer of an image from a donor element, comprising the silicone-urea block polymer as a release coating, to a receptor substrate occurs. In a preferred embodiment, a pH sensitive indicator such as thymolphthalein can be added to the release coating in order to monitor the thickness of the coating.

The laminated film of this invention has high discrimination property and is also improved in image printability on the film surface in comparison with the conventional polyester films. When, for instance, the present laminated film is used as base for prepaid cards, which is a preferred application of the present film, it contributes to the enhancement of security of the cards, and it also enables high-quality printing by thermal transfer method.

If necessary the organic surface may be silicon-modified by treatment with a silicon containing material prior to plasma treatment. Improvements in methods for laminating organic surfaces and for depositing metals on organic surfaces which achieve improved adhesion are disclosed. Structures comprising laminated organic layers of metal deposited on organic surfaces which provide improved adhesion between the organic layers or between the metal and the organic surface are also disclosed.
