    Abstract: A zinc alloy, having a copper layer coated thereon, consists essentially of from about 0.1 to about 0.8 weight percent copper, about 0.01 or more weight percent aluminum; up to about 0.05 weight percent magnesium, the balance being essentially zinc. The copper coated zinc alloy is advantageously employed to produce various cast, extruded, molded articles and the like including trim, fixtures as well as coin blanks. Further, the present invention relates to a metal article comprising a zinc base alloy having a copper overlayer in direct contact with the zinc base alloy, said alloy comprising about 1.5 weight percent or less aluminum and the remainder zinc. From another aspect, the subject invention contemplates a method for reducing the diffusion between a copper layer and a zinc base metal, said layer being in direct contact with the zinc base metal, said method comprising incorporating at least about 0.01 weight percent aluminum in said zinc base metal.

The abovementioned leg has an annular inner wall formed by piling up through a joint material a plurality of magnesia-chrome fired radial bricks in a plurality of horizontal annular rows arranged one on the other so as to form an inner bore for passing molten steel therethrough. The leg also has an annular outer wall formed by piling up through a joint material a plurality of magnesia-chrome fired radial bricks in a plurality of horizontal rows arranged one on the other so as to cover substantially the entire outer surface of the annular inner wall. The inner surface of the annular outer wall is in contact with the outer surface of the annular inner wall through a joint material.

    Abstract: A rotary drum comprises a hollow cylindrical outer member, a coaxial hub, and a plurality of spokes pivotally connected to the outer member and to the hub, all the spokes being aligned at the same oblique angle to the radius at the respective connections to the hub. Thermal expansion of the outer member relative to the spokes is accommodated by rotation of the outer member relative to the hub and a consequent change in the oblique angle, so minimizing thermally induced stresses in the spokes. The drum may be used in the production of a metal by deposition from the vapor phase onto the outer surface of the drum.

The disc is advantageously mounted so as to be perpendicular to the axis of the trunnion.     Abstract: An arrangement for cleaning a lance head of a lance introducible into a metallurgical vessel includes a cleaning head being in contact with the lance head during the cleaning procedure and surrounding the lance head. The cleaning head and the lance are relatively movable in the direction of the axis of the lance. In order to be able to carefully clean the lance head on its side facing the melt bath present in the metallurgical vessel by preventing the penetration of slag during the measuring procedure between the measuring and/or sampling probe and the end face of the lance, the cleaning head and the lance are placeable into an aligned position by an adjustment device. The cleaning head is settable into a rotational movement reciprocating about the axis of the lance by an oscillation device.

    Abstract: A manually operated actuator is described with which small incremental motions of a rod are obtained to advance a piston of a prefilled syringe. The device employs a reciprocally actuated drive element with a hole through which the rod passes freely when the drive element is in a release position. When the drive element is pivoted to a rod engaging position a pair of edges formed by the hole engage the rod and advance it an increment depending upon the amount of linear movement of the drive element. A back-up inhibitor is employed to prevent the rod from moving back when the drive element is returned to a release position. The back-up inhibitor is syringe responsive by employing a mechanism which causes engagement of the rod by the inhibitor when a syringe is attached to the actuator housing. A syringe with specially adapted flanges is described for use with the actuator.

    Abstract: A novel process for producing aluminum composite sheet products for roll forming and vacuum brazing is disclosed, which provides an unexpected improvement in the corrosion resistance of the brazed product. According to the process, a composite sheet is annealed to a strain-free state after having been rolled to a thickness which is a critical amount greater than the thickness ultimately sought. Following the annealing step, the sheet is cold worked to the desired thickness, the degree of reduction in this final step being within a critical range which provides the improvement in corrosion resistance to the final product after vacuum brazing.

    Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus useful for the removal of inclusions from a molten ferrous-based alloy in a continuous casting process. The apparatus includes a replaceable barrier to flow, that has numerous perforations. The individual perforations disturb molten alloy flow sufficiently to enhance inclusion agglomeration. As a result, molten alloy exiting from the perforations is agglomerated inclusions-enriched, compared to molten alloy entering the perforations. The agglomerated inclusions are enabled to float to the molten alloy surface prior to exiting from a tundish in which the replaceable barrier is used. Also provided by the present invention is an improved continuous casting process.
