  • Patent number: 4050875
Abstract: A device and method for use in the art or craft of molding hollow artistic objects from thermoplastic molding material, such as wax. The molding device includes a frame with a vertical stationary, circular gear rack secured thereto. A crank driven shaft is journaled through the frame in a position concentric with the rack. A yoke-like mold carrier is secured to the end of the shaft for rotation therewith. A mold holder is, in turn, mounted on the mold carrier for rotation about an axis generally perpendicular to the crank shaft axis between the yoke arms of the mold carrier. The mold holder has a shaft projecting through one of the yoke arms of the mold carrier and is secured to and driven with a disc gear, which is enmeshed with the gear rack. As the crank is turned to rotate the mold carrier, the disc gear rides on the gear rack and rotates the mold holder.

  • Patent number: 4050273
Abstract: Electric resistance heating means is embedded in a forging tool so that the temperature thereof may be maintained at a desired forging temperature. Therefore the present invention makes it possible to forge light metal alloy workpieces such as aluminum workpieces which have been hitherto considered to be difficult to be forged by rotary forging machines. In addition, better quality of forgings as well as considerable improvement of productivity may be ensured. Thus, reduction of labor and material in a forging process can be attained.

  • Patent number: 4050869
Abstract: Apparatus for agglomerating powders and non-flowing fine particle minerals such as clay, silicas, and silicates involving means for establishing a minimum level of wetting agent content in the material to be agglomerated, a rotatably mounted motor driven drum for tumbling the material to be agglomerated over itself, spray nozzles located within the drum to add additional wetting liquid to the material within the drum, and conveying means for passing the material into the drum and discharge means for removing the agglomerated powder, which is now formed into pellets of an advantageous pellet size distribution, therefrom. The spray nozzles are situated to spray the wetting agent onto the material at the curl thereof. The establishing of a minimum level of wetting agent content in the powder, preferably in the range of 1-1/2% to 5%, is achieved either by incomplete drying of the material during wet processing or by the application of a wetting agent prior to introduction into the drum.

  • Patent number: 4047867
Abstract: The terminal portion of a winding end turn conductor which projects from the core member of a dynamoelectric machine is encapsulated in an epoxy potting compound by means of a casting assembly which comprises a detachable conformable pad, a plastic sleeve mold, and a portable vise. The conformable pad is fitted about the terminal portion of the conductor to provide a temporary barrier to axial flow of the epoxy compound during casting. The plastic sleeve is disposed around the terminal portion in a spaced relationship therewith and in an abutting relation with the pad to provide a barrier to the radial flow of the epoxy compound during casting. Clamping means such as a portable vise is fitted about the conformable pad and is tightened to establish a compressive union at the interface of the conformable pad and the terminal portion of the conductor to prevent leakage. A pair of spring members hold the sleeve in abutting engagement with the surface of the conformable pad during the casting process.

  • Patent number: 4046496
Abstract: A rotary drum assembly includes separate agglomerating and hardening drums that are rotated independently of each other. The agglomerating drum has a generally cylindrical configuration with an inner cylindrical wall. A scraper is rotatably positioned within the agglomerating drum in spaced relation to the inner cylindrical wall with its axis spaced from the axis of the drum. The scraper has a tubular body portion with a plurality of parallel rows of blades extending radially therefrom. Each of the rows extends lengthwise along substantially the entire length of the scaper body portion and follow a helical path having a single turn about the axis of the tubular body portion. The rows of blades thus make a single convolution about the scraper body portion. Drive means are provided to synchronously rotate the agglomerating drum and scraper with the scraper arranged to rotate at a preselected and different speed relative to the speed of the drum.
