  • Patent number: 9456315
Abstract: For transmission of multicast data in a cellular network, a gateway (200) allocates a set of multicast sessions (111, 112) to a single Internet Protocol Multicast group (110). For each of the multicast sessions (111, 112), the gateway indicates an Internet Protocol Multicast address of the Internet Protocol Multicast group to one or more radio access network nodes (100) of the cellular network. For each of the multicast sessions (111, 112), the gateway (200) indicates a different identifier to the radio access network nodes (100), e.g., in the form of a Tunnel Endpoint Identifier. The gateway (200) sends multicast data of the multicast sessions (111, 112) in one or more Internet Protocol Multicast data packets addressed to the Internet Protocol Multicast address of the Internet Protocol Multicast group. The multicast data of each of the multicast sessions (111, 112) include the respective identifier to allow identification of the multicast session (111, 112) at the radio access network node (100).

  • Patent number: 9445326
Abstract: In the 3GPP Long Term Evolution wireless communication system, when performing handovers, the client terminal is not required to know the Radio Frame Number of the target cell. While basic functionality of the LTE wireless communication system air interface can be maintained in the new serving cell after handover completion without knowing the Radio Frame Number of the new serving cell, it is not possible to immediately resume many other important functions of LTE wireless communication system air interface, such as CSI measurements and reporting, SRS transmission, and SPS. Such functions can only be resumed after the Radio Frame Number becomes known. Conventional methods acquire the Radio Frame Number after completion of the handover. This may delay the resumption of the CSI, SRS, and SPS functions. A method and apparatus are disclosed that enable the client terminal to resume the CSI, SRS, and SPS functions immediately after handover completion.

  • Patent number: 9439088
Abstract: A user equipment (UE) is configured with a first configuration for reporting measurement feedback information according to a first reporting cycle using a first set of parameters, and a second configuration for reporting measurement feedback information according to a second reporting cycle using a second set of parameters. The UE switches between the first cycle and the second cycle for reporting for example CQI based on for example comparing a data or a channel measurement against a predefined threshold. In various embodiments the second configuration is fixed, or results in no CQI reporting, or is variable based on a previous cycle or CQI level, or is event-based. In another embodiment, the network commands the UE to switch. The end result is that control signalling overhead can be reduced when appropriate by reducing the number of CQI reports that are sent uplink.

  • Patent number: 9432291
Abstract: A method for defining a look-up system having functionality suitable for a network element of a software-defined network “SDN” includes maintaining (401) data specifying a set of look-up tables so that the look-up system is capable of being constructed in alternative ways using one or more look-up tables of the set of look-up tables and each of the look-up tables has a look-up table specific resource consumption estimate indicating a load factor of at least one component of the network element when running operations related to the look-up table. The method includes selecting (402), on the basis of the look-up table specific resource consumption estimates, such one of the alternative ways of constructing the look-up system which provides a look-up system that is optimal, or at least suitable, for the network element.

  • Patent number: 9432897
Abstract: In a mobile network with a plurality of access networks, a control node which is controlling access of a user equipment to that one of the access networks which is currently used by the user equipment determines an access capability of the user equipment in said access network, e.g. support of voice communication over packet switched access. The control node provides an indication of the determined access capability to a subscriber database associated with the user equipment. The indication may then be retrieved from the subscriber database and be used to control termination of a connection to the user equipment.

  • Patent number: 9420558
Abstract: The present disclosure provides a system and a method for providing mobility management and out-of-coverage indication in a hybrid system comprised of conventional LMR sites and trunking LMR sites. If a radio is located at a conventional site, the radio provides its location and user group data to the disclosed system through its traffic channel when the channel is idle. If the radio is located at a trunking site, the radio provides its location and user group data to the disclosed system through the trunking site's control channel. Knowledge of the radio's current location and user group data is used to provide dynamic call routing and data management within the disclosed system. The disclosed system and method provides seamless communication between a trunking site and a conventional site while concurrently enhancing the hybrid system to provide mobility management and out-of-coverage indication features typically associated with a stand-alone trunking system.

  • Patent number: 9420478
Abstract: In scenarios where the quality of service is negotiated through a signalling layer whereas the services are actually carried through a bearer layer, application functions at the signalling layer are not always aware of how quality of service is individually accomplished at the bearer layer on a service basis. The invention provides a method and devices whereby events are detected on a service data flow basis at a detection device in the bearer layer and notified towards an application device in the signalling layer via a control device between the signalling and the bearer layer. The list of events to be notified is obtainable at the control device from the application device and is included in Quality of Service related rules, along with service data flow filters. This Quality of Service related rules are provided to the detection device for inspecting individual service data flows in order to detect and notify the indicated events.
