    Abstract: A driving device for a tape recorder wherein means is provided for transmitting power from a motor to a capstan shaft which rotates unitarily with a flywheel, a rocking bracket is turnably mounted on an outer periphery of the capstan shaft, the rocking bracket is equipped with two transmission rollers which are rotatable on their respective axes, a belt is extended over the two transmission rollers, an outside surface of the belt is laid on a pulley which is fixed to the capstan shaft, a pair of reel shafts for taking up and rewinding a tape are disposed in a position where either of the two transmission rollers impinges on the reel shaft when the rocking bracket has turned, and the transmission rollers are provided with means for transmitting power to the reel shafts.

    Abstract: A head positioning device for a disk drive unit comprises a Y-shaped drive band for displacing the carriage bearing the head(s), each divergent arm portion of the Y forming the same angle with the central longitudinal axis of the band. In another embodiment, the two divergent arm portions are connected together by a crosspiece. Advantageously, the drive band is made of steel having a tensile strength of from 1200 to 2500 N/mm.sup.2, especially from 2000 to 2500 N/mm.sup.2. The novel positioning device can be used with advantage in any type of system for recording, reproducing and storing audio, video, data or control signals.

    Abstract: This invention relates to a rotary head assembly in which a magnetic tape runs while being would helically, consisting of a fixed cylinder 21 having a fixed cylindrical part, and a rotatable rotary member 19 having a diameter approximately equal to that of said fixed cylinder 21, being disposed coaxially with a very small gap and holding a magnetic head 29, wherein pump-out type spiral grooves 20 are provided either partly or wholly on either plane of the confronting planes formed in the relative rotating part between said fixed cylinder 21 and said rotary member 19 in order to create a buoyancy on a running magnetic tape by air pressure not only in the rotary cylinder area but also in the fixed cylinder area, to realize a stable and smooth tape running, and to radically eliminate the tape chirping phenomenon, sticking phenomenon, and tape damage and cylinder wear accompanying sliding.

The negative emf induced in the windings between energizing pulses provides a source of regulated, negative DC voltage which may be used to power various components requiring such a supply.

    Abstract: An improved magnetoresistive transducer for sensing the magnetic fields recorded on a magnetic medium and suitable for fabrication using photolithographic techniques. The transducer has two separate metallization layers so that the bias conductor may be deposited opposite the magnetoresistive sense element without any electrical connection between the two, thereby allowing the sense currents and bias currents to each be independently optimized and allowing the same bias current to be used to bias each magnetoresistive transducer element in an array. The bias conductor is set back from the edge of the magnetoresistive transducer element which is closest to the magnetic medium, providing a number of advantages related to wear, to decreasing the possibility of a short circuit between the bias conductor and the transducer element, and to reducing the exposure of the bias conductor to environmental hazards.

    Abstract: A device is disclosed for cleaning the magnetic head of a recorder/reproducer apparatus having a cartridge compartment into which a tape cartridge is slid for data transfer contact with the magnetic head. The head cleaner device has a casing of approximately the same shape and size as the tape cartridge, which casing is to be slid into and out of the cartridge compartment. The casing has pivotally mounted therein a handlebar having one end projecting therefrom through an aperture in the casing. Removably mounted to the other end of the handlebar, also exposed through another aperture in the casing, is a cleaner body of a plastic foam or like material which is to be pressed against the magnetic head upon full insertion of the cleaner casing in the cartridge compartment. The user may grip the projecting end of the handlebar and move the same back and forth about its pivot for cleaning the magnetic head by the cleaner body on the other end of the handlebar.

    Abstract: A sector servo seek control samples each sector to obtain sector time, the track identification within a sequence of track types and a position error signal for a track location to track location seek. The device during each sector determines the actual transducer track location and the next sector projected track location with respect to the sequence of track types. The projected track location is corrected using the error signal to find the actual location, but if a sector signal is missing or erroneous, the projected location is used as the actual location, permitting a composite correction to be made when a correct sector signal is obtained. The seek time is minimized by using maximum acceleration followed by maximum deceleration while not exceeding a velocity value that would cause the device to overshoot the target track using full deceleration.

    Abstract: A magnetic recording disk cartridge comprises a recording disk and a casing for accommodating the recording disk. The casing is provided with a pair of magnetic head receiving openings in the front and rear side walls thereof. The shutter member for closing the magnetic head receiving openings is formed by bending a single plate material and comprises a pair of arm portions connected with each other by a bight portion. A pair of shutter portions for closing the respective magnetic head receiving openings are formed on the respective arm portions at an intermediate portion thereof. The free end portions of the arm portions respectively form bearing portions which are engaged with engaging ribs projecting inwardly from the front and rear side walls of the casing and support the shutter member for rotation about the ribs.
