Abstract: A magnetic head comprises a core holder for holding a magnetic head element and including a first conductive region which is adapted to bear against the magnetic head element, and a shielding case which defines a second conductive region adapted to bear against the first conductive region and covering both the magnetic head element and the core holder to provide a magnetic shielding. In this manner, any static electricity developed on a magnetic tape is conducted to the ground potential of an instrument in which the magnetic head is mounted through the first and the second conductive region.
Abstract: Two closely spaced magnetostatically coupled magnetoresistive elements are arranged with their respective planar surfaces in parallel. A nonmagnetic insulating material is interposed between the elements to prevent exchange coupling. Sense current flows simultaneously through both elements in the same direction and in perpendicular to the easy axis of magnetization. In response to signal fields applied in parallel with the sense current flow demagnetization components in the easy axis direction cancel. The output signal of the transducer is independent of recording track width and free of Barkhausen noise.
Abstract: Improved flexible disk pack magnetic storage systems and associated elements are illustrated as adapted for end-wise pneumatic partitioning and indicate, among other features, the use of "rim means" in the gap between adjacent flexible disks to better isolate the axial pressurized air streams from non-selected gaps and also to provide a reference surface for registration of the disks in the course of compressing the stack together.
Abstract: A tape tracking device for a tape recorder comprises first and second position detection heads disposed such that one of the first and second position detection heads is upwardly displaced by its one upper half from a track on which a signal is recorded and reproduced by a record/reproduce head and the other is downwardly displaced by its one lower half from the track, a DC reversible motor rotated according to a difference between the reproduced signals of said first and second position detection heads, and a post tiltable by an eccentric cam attached to a shaft of the motor and adapted to impart a pressure in the up and down directions to correct a deviation of the tape in the direction of the width of the tape.
Abstract: Improved flexible disk pack magnetic storage systems and associated elements are illustrated as adapted for end-wise pneumatic partitioning of a pack of flexible record disks and indicate, among other features, the use of "isolation packs" flanking the record pack to better isolate it, and especially the outer record-disks, from an outer pair of end-plates between which the isolation packs are disposed, the size and composition of each isolation pack being optimized and the gaps between isolation disks preferably coupled, pneumatically, to prescribed record-gaps and varied in height, with "large" isolation gaps coupled to "record-gaps" that are more difficult to partition.
Abstract: A cassette tape player suitable for use in automobile audio systems is provided. A receptacle for a cassette is movably mounted in a chassis at an angle with respect to the chassis bottom. A guide mechanism serves to first translate the receptacle in the oblique position and then turn the receptacle about its trailing edge to place the receptacle in a horizontal position. The guide is designed such that the capstan receiving opening in the cassette in the receptacle is maintained in constant alignment with the capstan during change of the receptacle from the oblique to the horizontal position, avoiding cassette damage and capstan deformation. Electric controls are accommodated in the space between the receptacle and the chassis bottom.
Abstract: A magnetic recording/reproducing apparatus adapted to effect lowering and raising of a tape pack receiving frame to set it into and eject it from a recording/reproducing position. A rack portion is formed on a slide member interlocked with the tape pack receiving frame. A support link provided with a gear, which is adapted to be driven by a motor, is disposed in relation with the rack portion. An electromagnetic mechanism energized by a signal for ejection such as a tape-end signal is provided for the support link. The gear and the rack portion are adapted to engage with each other upon energization of the electromagnetic mechanism for carrying out an ejecting operation.
Abstract: A positioning device for a magnetic head of a magnetic tape recorder, comprising a head carrier which can be moved transversely of the magnetic tape by means of a threaded spindle and a follower, the head carrier being provided with a signal transducer for controlling the drive motor for the threaded spindle.

Abstract: Electronic circuitry for improving the speed and accuracy of shifting the magnetic heads of a disk memory from one to another track cylinder. Head velocity is measured with great accuracy by measuring the servo head transit time between adjacent tracks of the servo disk. A microprocessor controller in conjunction with preferred velocity profile data stored in a read only memory provides a control signal to the linear motor control causing the head arm velocity to follow the preferred velocity profile with excellent precision.
Abstract: An actuator for the head assembly of a magnetic disk drive includes a magnet having a curved surface mounted along the arc of rotation of a movable coil. Magnets on three sides of the coil increase the torque of the actuator. The curved surface magnet has a flat surface opposite thereto and disposed against the actuator housing.
Abstract: A transducer feeding mechanism is used for an apparatus for recording and reproducing a signal on and from a rotary recording medium by means of a transducer fed over the recording medium in the radial direction thereof.
Abstract: By dimensioning a magnetic playback head so that it coacts with a magnetic signal track having an effective width that is less than one half the shortest signal wavelength to be played back divided by the tangent (or sine) of a predetermined magnetic skew angle that may be experienced by the head, skew angles less than the maximum skew angle will have no effect on the playback of signals having wavelengths greater than said shortest wavelength.
Abstract: A magnetic cassette tape record and play apparatus wherein the magnetic head thereof is fixed, comprises a push member cooperating with an operation button and which is so disposed as to abut against a pad spring received in a tape cassette. When the tape cassette is loaded or ejected in the stop mode, the push member is pressed against the pad spring to deform it against its urging force, thereby locking the cassette tape in a position untouched by the magnetic head. When the operation button is depressed for the recording or reproduction mode, then the push member is removed from the pad spring, thereby causing the pressure pad to be pressed against the magnetic head with the cassette tape disposed between the pressure pad and the magnetic head.
Abstract: A workpiece having a machine-readable coded marking recessed into the surface thereof. The workpiece comprises a main body and a thin integral coating in the area of the marking. The marking comprises a plurality of related marks, such as a bar-code marking, which are recessed through the coating and which have substantially different light reflectances than the surrounding surface. The workpiece may include an integral undercoating between the coating and the main body with marks recessed into, but not through, the undercoating. The marks may be made by selectively removing material, as by abrasion or ablation, from defined surface areas and through the coating.
