Abstract: A seat assembly (10) with a plurality of individual segments (16, 18, 20). Each segment includes a rigid flapper (26) hinged at one end to one movable member (14) and slidably contacting a planar surface (12') in another member (12).
Abstract: An arrangement for sealing an opening in a plate (1) through which a shaft extends, the plate separating the "wet" and the "dry" zones of a packing machine from each other. In packing machines great demands are made on the tightness and durability of such shaft bushings, especially against strong washing agents, and the sealing assembly in accordance with the invention, therefore, has a flexible connection with the plate (1) and two O-rings (9,10), which are partly enclosed by two halves of a sealing assembly. Thereby, the O-rings are protected during washing as well as during operation. This design also produces a good sealing effect even when the shaft moves a little in radial direction during operation.
Abstract: To avoid friction losses or the striking of a sealing part (1) against the edge of a sealing surface interruption, the movement of the sealing part (1) into and out of contact with the sealing surface is controlled by the medium to be sealed, so that there is a sealing contact only at that moment in which there is an overpressure in the area to be sealed. This control takes place through the vacuum produced in the sealing gap (8) during the brief flow therethrough and the relative overpressure with respect thereto on the opposite side (10) of the sealing part (1). In the differential pressure-less state, the sealing part is e.g. held by a spring (6) at a distance from sealing surface (5).
Abstract: A flat sealing gasket includes an opening defined by a gasket edge and a sheet metal armor framing the gasket edge. The armor at least partially encloses an annular space which is situated radially inwardly of the gasket edge and is generally concentric with the gasket opening. Further, a graphite filling is accommodated in the annular space.
Abstract: An improved drive for a banded sealing ring or washer in a rotary mechanical seal. The washer, usually a ceramic washer, is provided with an annular band surrounding its outer periphery which includes an outwardly extending flange. The seal includes a sleeve mounted on a rotatable shaft of a pump, which houses the washer in coaxial relation. It further includes a flange extending radially, which defines means in contact with the band of the washer, such that driving engagement is effected between the sleeve flange and the washer band and the washer is caused to rotate with the sleeve.
Abstract: A gasket comprises a main body having at least one opening and a plurality of elastic members provided on at least one of upper and lower surfaces of the main body. The elastic members slightly project outwardly from the upper or lower surface. The elastic members surround the openings so that when the gasket is compressed between two parts, the elastic member deform to thereby securely seal around the opening.
Abstract: A mechanical seal for a fluid pump wherein a driven ring is mounted in the pump casing and a seat ring is mounted on the pump vane. The two rings have opposed, radial faces for effecting the mechanical seal. The face on the seat ring is of a smaller width in the radial direction than the face of the driven ring so that any axial misalignment of the driven ring relative to the vane shaft does not effect the area of engagement on the two faces that form the seal, that is, the annular engagement area on the driven ring remains constant and coextensive with the engaging face of the seat ring.
Abstract: This invention discloses a dielectric pipe flange gasket having the dual functions of providing a leak proof seal for the pipe flange joint and an electrically insulating barrier between flanges, which dielectric pipe flange gasket comprises a planar annular disc member of corrosion resisting metal sandwiched between two hard dielectric planar members respectively bonded to two faces thereof and a pair of ring seals made of dielectric elastomer respectively disposed in two annular seal grooves respectively included in two faces of the pipe flange gasket, wherein the depth of the grooves partially extend into the metallic planar annular disc member.
Abstract: A seal system for closing the running clearance between two relatively rotating structural members, wherein an elastomeric annular packing ring has a first annular portion pressed into an undersized annular locking channel, formed by and within one structural member, so as to retain the ring immovably therein, and thus to distend the remaining second annular portion of the ring, which is now dynamically and internally biased, across an open working chamber into impingement upon the smooth annular sealing surface of the opposing structural member to achieve an activated seal which is operable over large relative excursions of the structural members.
Abstract: A shaft seal assembly for an apparatus for continuous processing of very viscous media, in particular for producing high molecular weight polymers, having parallel shafts (1) carrying at least two cooperating processing tools (3), with which shafts feed and removal devices for the product to be processed and one reaction chamber (4), which can be subjected to a vacuum, are associated, has sealing means having at least one slide ring seal (46, 55), by which means the reaction chamber is sealed off, in the vicinity of the shaft ducting devices, from a confining-liquid chamber (11) located on the outside and surrounding the shaft ends, which chamber contains confining liquid.
Abstract: A sealant system for repairing leaking pipes comprised of an elastomeric modified acrylic adhesive, exothermically curable upon activation by a catalyst, and a blowing agent. After mixing the components, the sealant is pumped into a mold cavity located over the leak. The mold is sealed and the reaction of the acrylic proceeds to completion concomitant with a rise in temperature, decomposition of the blowing agent and an increased pressure within the mold. The internal pressure thus generated forces the sealant into the interstices of the pipe. The sealant upon complete curing and solidification is bonded to the surface of the pipe.
Abstract: A bearing and magnetic fluid seal assembly includes a shaft mounted by axially spaced-apart bearings for rotation relative to a housing. A magnetic fluid seal includes an annular magnet axially positioned between the bearings in the space that is wasted and not utilized for any purpose, and a thin, disk-like annular polepiece positioned between one of the bearings and the environment to be protected by the seal. Magnetic flux from the magnet is conducted by a magnetically permeable housing or shaft to an annular gap between the inside diameter of the polepiece and the shaft. A magnetic fluid is retained in the gap by the magnetic flux, thereby providing an exclusion seal. Embodiments utilizing radially and axially polarized magnets are provided. A magnetic fluid seal can be provided at each end of the assembly. The bearings supporting the shaft can be magnetically permeable or nonmagnetic. The seal(s) can be electrically conducting or nonconducting depending upon the type of ferrofluid used.

Abstract: A sealing assembly which can be interposed between two relatively movable members to make a seal between the cavity lying between the said members and the exterior environment, composed of two annular elements each of which is firmly connected to one of the said members and on one of which are formed two sliding surfaces perpendicular to one another. The prinipal characteristic of the sealing assembly lies in the fact that it includes an annular sealing element having a sleeve-like lip on which is mounted a resilient element and radially from which extends an annular projection which can slide on one of the sliding surfaces, and a root zone from which extends a second lip independent of and substantially parallel to the first lip and able to slide on the other of the sliding surfaces.
Abstract: A sealing structure for the upper end of a rising or conveying pipeline, which sealing structure is provided between the riser pipe hanger and the riser pipe cover and aims at providing a metallic seal whose safety is superior to that of the seals known up to now. This is achieved by the insertion of metallic O-ring seals (13, 13') in annular spaces of triangular cross section of which one end wall is formed by the inclined contact pressure shoulder (11) of a thrust collar (8,9) which can be subjected to pressure by means of clamping spindles (14, 14') arranged essentially at right angles in relation to the rise pipe axis (10) and screwed into the riser pipe cover (4), whereby an additional pressing of the seals (13, 13') is made possible.
Abstract: A mechanical seal for use between a housing and a rotatable shaft supported by the housing, having adjacent annular primary and mating sealing rings, each ring having a generally radial sealing face. Means seals and holds the first sealing ring nonrotatably relative to the housing, and means seals and holds the second sealing ring to rotate with the shaft. One sealing ring is movable axially of the shaft, and springs urge this one ring toward the other sealing ring, which is axially fixed relative to the shaft. The axially moveable seal ring is centered coaxially with respect to the axis of the seal ring through engagement of a centering element which is centered relative to the shaft and which engages the axially moveable sealing ring to center it relative to the shaft. The centering element engages the axially moveable sealing ring to effect such centering at the periphery of the axially moveable ring exposed to the pressurized fluid to be sealed.

Abstract: A sealing system for combustible engines and the like includes solid particles for plugging large holes or cracks. The solid particles are carried by a liquid which can flow into smaller cracks and then quickly solidify to seal those smaller cracks. Alternatively the sealant may be solely a liquid by mixing potassium silicate with ethylene glycol and water.
Abstract: A metal gasket for a cylinder head of an internal combustion engine comprises at least one narrow portion extending between cylinder bores of the cylinder head to be sealed by the gasket, and beads extending along circumferences of the cylinder bores. The adjacent beads extend in opposite directions with respect to the gasket, thereby enabling the adjacent beads to be smoothly and gently connected. Such smoothly connected beads prevent any cracks or permanent deformations in the proximity of the beads from occuring when the gasket is firmly clamped between the cylinder head and an engine body. Restoring faculty of the gasket is not lost after being clamped therebetween, so that the sealing capacity in the proximities of the beads is remarkably improved in comparison with the prior art.
