  • Patent number: 5967759
Abstract: A main pump unit which includes a main pump and a standby pump in a tank is placed on the basement floor, not in a sump. The tank is sealed with the floor level drain, preventing reverse sewer water from flowing onto the floor. The pump (main) turns on before the sewer water from overflowing the appliances, such as toilet and bathtub. The system includes an arrangement for using the customary fresh water supply for testing the pump. It also includes means for ventilating the tank to the exterior.

  • Patent number: 5967758
Abstract: A controlling device ensures an accurate control of the rotational speed of an engine. When a hydraulic working machine is in a suspended state, the rotational speed of the engine can be changed from a designated rotational speed to a low rotational speed without requiring any specific manipulation by the operator. When all control levers 14 to 21 are shifted to their respective neutral positions to suspend the operation, and the shifting speed of the control lever which is lastly shifted to its neutral position is low, a delay time is set to be longer than in the case of high shifting speed. If the control levers 14 to 21 are maintained in their respective neutral positions after the elapse of the delay time, the engine 1 is changed to the low rotational speed mode. When one of control levers is shifted before the elapse of the delay time, the engine 1 is continuously maintained in the designated rotational speed mode.

  • Patent number: 5967756
Abstract: An apparatus for controlling an electrohydraulic system of a work machine having an engine that drives a variable displacement pump is disclosed. A pump displacement setting device produces a pump command signal indicative of a desired displacement of the variable displacement pump. An engine speed setting device produces an engine command signal indicative of a desired rotational speed of the engine. A power manager receives the pump and engine command signals, determines an efficient engine speed and pump displacement, and produces an engine control signal that decreases the engine speed to the efficient engine speed and a pump control signal that increases the pump displacement to an efficient pump displacement, while maintaining a substantially constant pump flow rate.

  • Patent number: 5964583
Abstract: A liquid delivery device which controls the flow of liquid from a liquid reservoir includes a resilient tubing having a wall with a substantially cylindrical cross-section defining a flow lumen. The flow lumen is in fluid communication with the reservoir. A compression member selectively compresses a lengthwise segment of the cylindrical wall to collapse the flow lumen and releases the lengthwise segment to open the flow lumen. An elastomeric sleeve envelopes greater than half an outer diameter of the cylindrical cross-section of the resilient tubing along at least a portion of the lengthwise segment of the cylindrical wall. The elastomeric sleeve biases the lengthwise segment of the resilient tube to restore it to its substantially cylindrical cross-section when the compression member releases the lengthwise segment.

  • Patent number: 5964580
Abstract: A positive displacement pump includes a deformable hollow member for delivering a subject liquid by a cycle of contraction and restoration of its volume, a casing which contains the hollow member, and a pressurizing device for supplying and evacuating a hydraulic liquid in an annular space between the casing and the hollow member. The supplying of hydraulic fluid causes the contraction of the hollow member, and the evacuating of the hydraulic fluid causes the restoration (expansion) of the hollow member. A guide structure contacts and deforms the outer circumferential portions of the hollow member as the hollow member continues to expand to determine an initial contraction position of the hollow member. That is, a particular direction of contraction of the hollow member is set by the guide structure. Drive means periodically vary the circumferential position of the guide means relative to the hollow member to vary the initial contraction position of the hollow member.

  • Patent number: 5964578
Abstract: A control valve in a compressor that adjusts the discharge displacement based on controlling of an inclination of a cam plate. The compressor includes a supply passage for connecting a discharge chamber with a crank chamber. The control valve is placed midway on the supply passage. The control valve has a valve body. The valve body moves in a first direction to open the supply passage and moves in the second direction to close the supply passage. A reacting member reacts to suction pressure. A first transmitting member is placed between the reacting member and the valve body. A solenoid is opposed to the reacting member with respect to the valve body. The solenoid urges the valve body in the second direction via a second transmitting member when the solenoid is excited. An urging device urges the valve body in the first direction, The first transmitting member connects the reacting member with the valve body to move the valve body toward or away from the reacting member.

  • Patent number: 5961296
Abstract: By applying balance between atmospheric pressure and gravity, Torricelli's vacuum is formed, and by utilizing the vacuum, power is generated. When an operating tube directs to nearly the right above, because of the weight of a liquid on the inside of the operating tube, Torricelli's vacuum is formed under a piston, and by this vacuum, the piston is lowered to rotate an operating crankshaft. Then, linking to the rotation of the operating crankshaft, the operating tube inclines, causing the piston to be pushedly returned to the original position by the liquid. In this state, the operating tube is returned to the above-described position. A plurality of operating tubes which are balanced in gravity by a balance weighing means repeat this operation in different phases, thus causing the operating crank to continuously rotate.

  • Patent number: 5961291
Abstract: A turbo vacuum pump has a rotor and magnetic bearings. The magnetic bearings are held in a housing having a suction port and an exhaust port, and support the rotor rotatably. A peripheral flow pump stage and screw pump stage are formed in the rotor, so that the pressure at the exhaust port can be at or near atmospheric pressure level. Before starting the turbo vacuum pump, the magnetic bearings are operated to displace a rotor position and to scrape off the reaction products which have deposited inside the pump. In addition, before starting the turbo vacuum pump, a stator of the pump is heated up to decrease a binding force of the reaction products. Therefore, the pump can be restarted, even if the rotor has locked by the solidification of deposited reaction products formed during stopping of the pump.

  • Patent number: 5947692
Abstract: A controller for a peristaltic pump receives as an input pressure P.sub.i sensed at the inlet of the pump. The controller derives a nonlinear scale factor S.sub.Pi that varies as a step function with P.sub.i. The scale factor S.sub.Pi equals a first nonvariable value when P.sub.i lays in a first defined zone of inlet pressures, and equals a second nonvariable value, different than the first nonvariable value, when P.sub.i lays in a second defined zone of inlet pressures different than the first defined zone of inlet pressures.
