Patent number: 7861874Abstract: A resealable can end is provided including a neck (10) and a cooperating cap member (12) which can be sealed onto and removed from the neck, and is capable of containing product under pressure or vacuum if desired. This end may be added, by convention seaming methods, such as roll seaming or by appropriate adhesive, to a container body, or may be formed integrally with container bodies. The venting feature of the end will achieve a controlled release of differential internal-to-ambient pressure upon initial opening of the cap, and may also provide resealed containment of partial contents retained in the container, although the contents will no longer be under pressure or vacuum, as the case may be. The end may be applied to, or incorporated in, containers made of various material, such as aluminum, coated steel, or selected plastics.Type: GrantFiled: June 26, 2003Date of Patent: January 4, 2011Assignee: Dayton Systems Group, Inc.Inventors: Stephen T. Patent number: 7837051Abstract: A method of locking a container is shown, wherein the container is provided with a frame which has an access opening, a closure member which has two opposed long edges and two opposed short edges, and which is pivotally mounted in relation to the frame, and a latch member which is axially movable within the closure member between a latched position and an unlatched position. The latch member and the frame are each provided with one or more interengageable detents whereby when the closure member is in a closed position and the latch member is in the latched position the detents are engaged and prevent pivoting of the closure member. Movement of the latch member to the unlatched position causes the detents to disengage and permit pivoting of the closure member. The closure member is provided with a locking member for engaging the latch member to retain it against axial movement.Type: GrantFiled: March 21, 2005Date of Patent: November 23, 2010Assignee: Checkpoint Systems, Inc.Inventors: Robert Malcolm Broadhead, David Frank Whitehead

Patent number: 7832580Abstract: A tamper evident container closure seal with an integral pull opener is constructed from one or more layers of frangible sheet material adhesively bonded to one or more layers of strengthening sheet material. The one or more strengthening layers each contain one or more duplicate void configurations that form a weak area in the multi layered seal only in the area of the void configuration. When a consumer forces a finger into the seal when bonded to the rim of a container the applied pressure forces the seal to break open and tear only in the weaker area of the void configuration while the peripheral portion of the seal remains bonded to the container rim. The broken open center portion of the seal then forms a pull tab that can be partially connected which allows the pull tab to be lifted back out and pulled from the container.Type: GrantFiled: September 13, 2004Date of Patent: November 16, 2010Inventor: Brian Francis Jackman

Patent number: 7819266Abstract: An container sealing material suitable for sealing a container comprises a liner sheet (liner), a sealant sheet, and an interlayer portion (interlayer) bound between the liner and the sealant sheet by individual layers of wax. The material has a closure-contacting surface and a heat-sealable surface. At least one of the surfaces of the liner and the interlayer that contacts a layer of wax is capable of absorbing liquid wax when the layer of wax is melted. At least one of the surfaces of the sealant sheet and interlayer which contacts a layer of wax is capable of absorbing liquid wax when the layer of wax is melted. The liner and the sealant sheet each release from the interlayer when sufficient heat is applied to the container sealing material to melt the layers of wax. The interlayer can include printed matter visible on one or both of its surfaces (e.g., a logo, proof-of-purchase indicator, and the like). The printed matter can include promotional indica for a product, a service, a game and the like.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 2004Date of Patent: October 26, 2010Assignee: Tech-Seal Products, Inc.Inventors: Sue A. Patent number: 7810668Abstract: An externally threaded closure plug for tightly closing off the internally threaded opening in shipping and storage containers such as drums, pails and the like. The plug is formed as a cup having a bottom wall and threaded cylindrical sidewall terminating in a circumferentially enlarged rim. Immediately beneath the rim of the plug is a gasket seat defined by the undersurface of the plug rim, the plug sidewall and an annular gasket retaining lip lying in a plane parallel to the undersurface of the plug rim. In use, the plug is screwed into and out of a container wall opening, having an internally threaded portion and an unthreaded portion, the sealing gasket being compressed between the unthreaded opening portion and the plug gasket seat and lying in close proximity to the internal thread. The gasket seat acts to prevent interengagement of the sealing gasket and the opening internally threaded portion.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 2007Date of Patent: October 12, 2010Assignee: Greif International Holding BVInventors: Cornelis R.
