Patent number: 8177084Abstract: A pressure-responsive container assembly and elastically-deformable penetrable cap is provided. Embodiments of the penetrable cap of the present invention include, but are not limited to: an annular sealing portion for engaging an inner surface of a container, a substantially rigid portion extending radially inward from the annular sealing portion; a flexible transition portion extending radially inward from the substantially rigid portion; and a penetrable portion extending radially inward from the transition portion for closing the opening defined by the container. Thus, embodiments of the present invention may thus allow the penetrable portion to elastically deform about the transition portion to a generally convex shape so as to exert a radially outward force that may be transmitted by the substantially rigid portion to the annular sealing portion so as to reinforce a fluid-tight seal between the annular sealing portion and the inner surface of the container.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 2006Date of Patent: May 15, 2012Assignee: TriPath Imaging, Inc.Inventors: William A. Patent number: 8157115Abstract: A child-resistant cap comprises: an inner cap mounted at a vessel inlet of a vessel; an outer cap disposed at an outer circumferential surface of the inner cap so as to perform an idling with the inner cap; a rotation force transmitting portion disposed between the inner cap and the outer cap for transmitting a rotation force of the outer cap to the inner cap only when the outer cap is downwardly moved with a force more than a certain degree; and a sealing member removing unit formed at the inner cap for removing a sealing member sealed at the vessel inlet when the inner cap is detached from the vessel inlet, and storing the removed sealing member in the inner cap. Since the sealing member removing unit is integrally formed at the cap, the sealing member is automatically removed at the time of opening the cap. Accordingly, the sealing member needs not to be additionally removed, and thus a usage convenience is enhanced.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 2006Date of Patent: April 17, 2012Inventor: Hee Kwon Rho

Patent number: 8123064Abstract: A container which indicates if the lid (14) has been opened after a clerk loaded food into the base (12) and closed the lid. The base and lid each has a trapping portion (20, 22) and a pull-open portion (24, 32) with a tear-tab, or tear -open barrier (80). To close the lid, a clerk projects a tab (30) on the pull-open portion of the lid through a slot (26) in the pull-open portion of the base, and then presses down the entire trapping portion of the lid into the trapping portion of the base. The lid cannot be lifted up because the tear-open barrier (80) forming the top wall of the slot lies over the tab. To open the container, a person tears the barrier (80, FIG. 8) along a tear line (90, 92) extending from the slot (26) to the outer edge (50) of the base, or the person tears the tab to leave a short tab part that clears the barrier. The tab has a partially vertical stiffener (77) to prevent radially inward tab movement through the slot.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 2007Date of Patent: February 28, 2012Assignee: PWP Industries, Inc.Inventor: Terry Vovan

Patent number: 8118185Abstract: A closure for a container comprises a circular closure plate (2, 4), integral with the outer edge of which is a depending skirt (8), integrally connected to the lower end of which by means of a resilient annular integral hinge (10) is an annular flange (12), which extends generally upwardly and inwardly. The closure also includes a cutter assembly which includes a cutting blade (38) and is mounted to rotate about the center of the closure plate (2, 4). The integral hinge (10) has a hole formed in it through which the cutting blade (38) extends. Rotation of the cutter assembly about the center of the closure plate thus results in cutting of the integral hinge (10) and thus in release of the closure plate (2, 4) and the depending skirt (8) from the annular flange (12).Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 2007Date of Patent: February 21, 2012Assignee: Carbonite CorporationInventors: Matthew Eric Smith, Karl Mondszein
