  • Patent number: 7137706
Abstract: With a trend toward a higher intensity projection type liquid crystal display device to further increase brightness of a projection screen, rated input power of a light source lamp increases, which makes essential a fan apparatus for cooling the light source lamp, etc. Such a fan apparatus would require a light-shielding member which causes the number of parts to increase. The present invention provides a fan apparatus provided with a rotor section that can be rotated/driven around a predetermined rotation axis and a propeller section including propeller blades and attached to the rotor section arranged in such a way as to substantially shield light parallel to the rotation axis.

  • Patent number: 7131737
Abstract: A housing (500) for a wire grid polarizing beamsplitter (240) and a spatial light modulator (210) in alignment with an output optical path has a front plate having an opening (502) for admitting incident illumination and a modulator mounting plate (506) for mounting the spatial light modulator (210) in the optical output path. First and second polarizer support plates (512, 520) extend between the front plate and the modulator mounting plate (506), with their respective facing inner surfaces providing coplanar support features for supporting the wire grid polarizing beamsplitter (240) within a fixed plane. The coplanar support features allow rotation of the wire grid polarizing beamsplitter (240) with respect to the output axis. The wire grid polarizing beamsplitter (240) has its surface at a fixed angle with respect to the surface of the spatial light modulator (210), the angle defining an output optical axis along the output optical path.

  • Patent number: 7118230
Abstract: The invention provides a holder frame, optical device and projector which can prevent the substrate from deviating in position, the substrate from being compressed at the outer periphery and color unevenness from occurring. More particularly, in the four sides of a luminous-flux incident surface of a holder frame, there can be formed a plurality of cutouts extending from a vicinity of an opening to an outer edge of the luminous-flux incident surface and nearly orthogonal to a lengthwise of each side. Also, in the four sides of an accommodating surface of the holder frame, there are formed a plurality of cutouts extending from a vicinity of an opening to an outer edge of the accommodating surface and nearly orthogonal to a lengthwise of each side. The cutouts in each side of the accommodating surface of the holder frame are formed in positions between the cutouts formed in each side of the luminous-flux incident surface of the holder frame as viewed from a side of luminance-flux incidence.

  • Patent number: 7118227
Abstract: An illuminating optical system for focusing a radiant light of a light source (1) onto a reflecting light valve (6) and a projection lens (7) for magnifying and projecting a reflected light from the reflecting light valve (6) onto a screen are provided, a diaphragm (31) is disposed at a substantially conjugate position of an entrance pupil of the projection lens (7) on an optical path of the illuminating optical system, the diaphragm (31) has an opening whose area is changed by a light-shielding member, and a shape of a shielded portion of the diaphragm (31) shielded by the light-shielding member is rotationally asymmetric to an optical axis (12) of the illuminating optical system. Accordingly, shielding of necessary light can be better avoided compared with a diaphragm for changing the light-shielding area in a rotationally symmetric manner, for example, a diaphragm for narrowing the opening concentrically, making it possible to improve contrast performance while minimizing brightness reduction.
