  • Patent number: 5312231
Abstract: The objects of the invention are to prevent the backflow of slurry by first enclosing it in a closed space and then using air to force it along a discharge channel, and at the same time to ensure the smooth throughput of the slurry by causing any foreign bodies in the slurry to be broken up en route. To this end, the invention is provided with a casing enclosing a circular cross-section rotor chamber and a rotor which fits inside said rotor chamber and which is caused to rotate by a drive means. The rotor is also fitted with blades en bloc which extend radially from the rotating center section and which form moving chambers that rotate along with the rotor inside the rotor chamber. The casing is also provided with an intake port that connects with the moving chambers at the slurry intake point and a discharge port and air supply port, each of which connects, with the moving chambers at the slurry discharge point.

  • Patent number: 5302088
Abstract: A water powered sump pump has a control housing connected to a source of water under pressure and to a drain pipe located in a sump. An outlet pipe leads from the control housing to a suction generating assembly in communication with the drain pipe for entraining water from the sump for discharge elsewhere. A diaphragm closure normally closes a water passage in the housing and divides the housing into two chambers. A passageway through the diaphragm enables the pressure of water in the two chambers to be equalized. A bleed line communicates between one of the chambers and the sump. A valve responsive to the rise of water in the sump initiates the flow of water through the bleed line, thereby enabling lowering of the pressure in the chamber with which the bleed line communicates and enabling the pressure of water in the other chamber to unseat the diaphragm and open the passage.

  • Patent number: 5297944
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a collapsible flexible pump which includes an inflatable spring and framework. The inflatable spring framework is formed by attaching a layer of flexible material over selected exterior portions of the flexible material pumping chamber to form a passageway therebetween. Inflation of the inflatable spring framework via an inflation valve, results in the collapsed flexible pump distending into a three dimensional pumping chamber inscribed by the inflated spring framework. The pumping chamber includes appropriate inlet and discharge valves. By applying a compressive force to the pumping chamber, the volume of fluid within the pumping chamber is forced out through the discharge valve. The restoring tendency of the distended inflatable spring framework returns the pump chamber to the extended position on the returning intake stroke. A plurality of exemplary inflatable articles are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5284425
Abstract: A pump for dispensing accurately measured amounts of fluid has a one way check valve in the flow path on the upstream side of a pump chamber and a one way check valve in the flow path at the downstream side of the pump chamber which is of variable internal volume. A flow passage provides fluid communication from the upstream check valve to the pump chamber and enters the pump chamber by a centrally located opening that is surrounded by a valve seat. One wall of the pump chamber is a flexible and elastic diaphragm that is attached to the plunger portion of a solenoid actuator. The plunger and diaphragm are biased by a spring acting upon the plunger such that, in the absence of excitation of the solenoid coil, the diaphragm is biased against a valve seat, preventing flow through the pump.

  • Patent number: 5279208
Abstract: A rotary reciprocating engine has a rotating center shaft and a rotating outer rim with a rotational eccentricity in relation to the center shaft. The engine has a synchronization mechanism including a synchronizing hub, a guide rail, one cam member fitted to the center shaft, and another cam member fitted to the outer rim. The synchronization mechanism has the same rotational eccentricity in relation to the center shaft as the outer rim, but the rotational axes of the synchronization mechanism and the outer rim are on opposite sides of the rotational axis of the center shaft. The synchronization mechanism restrictively guides rotation of the center shaft and the outer rim, and transfers and balances the forces and moments generated by the pressure medium in the engine, leading to the pistons and cylinders being subjected to axially directed forces only and not moment transferring cross head forces.

  • Patent number: 5275541
Abstract: A diaphragm pump has a first fluid-operated valve which opens when the diaphragm performs a suction stroke and a second fluid-operated valve which opens when the diaphragm performs a compression stroke. The volumetric efficiency of the pump is enhanced by constructing at least one of its valves in such a way that the central portion of a resilient disc-shaped valving element, whose marginal portion bears against a seat when the valve is closed, abuts a supporting surface having a diameter selected in dependency on the diameter of the valving element, the thickness of the valving element and the Shore hardness of the material of the valving element in such a way that the selected frequency of the diaphragm in actual use of the pump induces a resonant frequency of the valving element. This also contributes to a reduction of noise and renders it possible to reduce wear upon the valving element and the adjacent parts of the respective valve.
