  • Patent number: 5417474
Abstract: Disclosed is a tilt control mechanism for a knee tilt chair that permits the chair to be locked in a number of intermediate tilt positions, as well as in a full upright and a fully reclined position. A portion of a pivotal chair seat support member is a curved flange that is provided with a plurality of spaced openings. The chair control housing contains a lock block slidably supported on guides. An actuator shaft attached to the chair control housing has a cam member attached to the shaft. A quarter turn of the actuator shaft causes the cam member to move the lock block to a forward position adjacent the curved flange. With the lock block in the forward position, one of a plurality of spring loaded pins in the lock block, is allowed to enter one of the openings in the curved flange thereby locking the chair support member of the chair into a predetermined tilt position.

  • Patent number: 5417473
Abstract: A chair mechanism (1) for office chairs comprises a synchronous mechanism with integrated negative inclination. The aim is to achieve all sitting postures occurring during office work, and in particular the correction of injurious continuous sitting. The arrangement, the function and the connection of the pivot axes and the configuration of the seat support (4) within the chair mechanism (1) have predominant novelty value. Mechanical springs, which are less expensive than gas springs, are used as component parts. Springing during synchronous movement is effected by means of a torsion spring (9), while the negative inclination utilizes compression springs (21). The mechanism offers a number of options--locking in determined functions--for special applications. In addition to the wide movement range, the apparatus is distinguished by a compact and efficient construction.

  • Patent number: 5415528
Abstract: A solution pumping system is disclosed which is embodied as a disposable pump cassette including a self-contained positive displacement pump, and an associated pump driver including a reciprocable pump piston for driving the pump of the cassette. This system is particularly suited for use in compounding in preparation of parenteral solutions for administration to patients. In order to promote high liquid output with minimum peak pumping pressures, the controls of the system operate to provide a "square" pumping pressure waveform, thus optimizing performance of the system. This is achieved by selectively varying the velocity of the pump piston during its operation.

  • Patent number: 5407333
Abstract: A rod-driven, downhole pump is disclosed, the pump including a traveling barrel contained within a pump housing, a central pump rod extending axially within the barrel, a valve ball located at the lower end of the pump rod, a valve seat near the barrel lower end, the pump rod including a rod shoulder for engaging the upper end of the barrel, the barrel containing annular passageways for the flow of fluid through the barrel, the pump rod reciprocable within the barrel, and the barrel reciprocable within the pump housing. The downward stroke of the pump rod causes the rod shoulder to engage the barrel upper end and concurrently displaces the valve ball below the valve seat, thereby allowing environmental fluid to flow through the barrel annular passageways. On the up stroke of the pump rod, the valve ball engages the valve seat and pushes the pump barrel upward within the pump housing. The sealing of the valve ball on the valve seat and the upward movement of the barrel displace columnar fluid upwardly.
