Patent number: 4799366Abstract: For a multi-feed knitting machine or hosiery machine, the system of selection of the needles is equipped, per each thread feed, with at least a stationary electromagnetic actuator, suitable for acting by magnetic attraction on wire springs incorporated inside selection sinkers inserted inside the slots under the needles and the needle pushers. An extraction cam extracts the selection sinkers and the needle pushers coupled with them from the slots, in order to bring the heels of the needle pushers to interfere with a lifting cam. A loading cam brings the springs of the sinkers into contact with the face of the actuator, wherein they are retained by magnetic force. A narrow area of the face of the actuator can be de-magnetized by impulses emitted by an electronic control system. If this area is demagnetized, the springs of the sinkers are taken by a blanking-out cam, which pushes the sinkers into their relevant slots and the heels of the needle pushers out from the field of action of the lifting cam.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 1987Date of Patent: January 24, 1989Assignee: Orizio Paolo S.p.A.Inventor: Leopoldo Bertagnoli

Patent number: 4794874Abstract: An individually controlled needle tufting machine having loopers with beaks pointing in the same direction as the backing material being fed through the machine so as to form loop pile has means for laterally shifting the backing material continuously first in one direction and then in the other. The method is disclosed utilizing this apparatus for forming zig-zag backstitches with selective needles by stitching during each cycle of the machine, while in other selective needles linear backstitches are formed by driving those needles during alternate cycles. Fabrics are produced utilizing this method wherein the loop density produced can be selectively chosen for various portions of the fabric so as to provide patterning effects. By foregoing the shifting of the backing material similar, but less pronounced patterning effects may be attained.Type: GrantFiled: January 4, 1988Date of Patent: January 3, 1989Assignee: Spencer Wright Industries, Inc.Inventor: Ian Slattery

Patent number: 4793158Abstract: A process and apparatus is disclosed for feeding weft threads to a warp knitting machine including longitudinal conveyors traveling towards the knitting instrumentalities. Weft thread rakes are arranged outside of the longitudinal conveyors and are movable between a starting position in which the weft threads are placed into the longitudinal conveyors and the rakes, and a racking position against the traveling direction of movement of the longitudinal conveyors. After reaching the racking position, the weft threads are transferred onto the longitudinal conveyors and the rakes are then returned to the starting position in the direction of travel of the longitudinal conveyors. The move of the rakes from the racking position to the starting position is effected by a temporary coupling connection of the rakes with the longitudinal conveyors. After transfer of the weft threads, this coupling connection is cancelled as the rakes reach the starting position.Type: GrantFiled: December 1, 1987Date of Patent: December 27, 1988Assignee: LIBA Maschinenfabrik GmbHInventor: Gunnar Liebrandt

Patent number: 4790153Abstract: In a safety device, in particular for flat-bed knitting machines, with which, by means of a shutoff device, stoppage of the carriages associated with a drive apparatus of the machines in the event of a change in the power of the carriages as compared with applicable normal operation resulting from disruptions in removal of the goods, loop formation and yarn insertion, excessively high loop tightness specification or the like, is effected. A measuring device is provided for detecting a torque-proportional variable of the drive mechanism. Actual values of the torque-proportional variable are deliverable to a central processing unit and an adjustable comparator device, and the comparator device is provided by the central processing unit, with threshold values for this torque-proportional variable, serving as processed actual value for the torque-proportional variable. Finally, by means of the comparator device, the shutoff device is triggerable as soon as the applicable threshold value is exceeded.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 1987Date of Patent: December 13, 1988Assignee: H. Patent number: 4790252Abstract: A tufting machine has a needle mounting construction including a multiplicity of needle support carriages, each carriage being slidably mounted in guides for controlled movement in a direction normal to the path of reciprocation of the tufting machine push rods. Pneumatic cylinders are operatively connected with each carriage to effect movement in accordance with a predetermined pattern. A pair of needle holders are mounted within each carriage, each holder supporting a needle. The holders have slots for coupling onto a detent reciprocating with the push rods. The carriage may be moved so that one or the other or neither needle holder is coupled to the reciprocating push rods. When a needle holder is coupled, the needle attached thereto reciprocates and may cooperate with a hook to form pile. Each needle of a pair may be threaded with different type yarn so that unique patterning affects may be obtained.Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 1987Date of Patent: December 13, 1988Assignee: Spencer Wright Industries, Inc.Inventor: H. Patent number: 4790149Abstract: In a flatbed knitting machine with electronic control and comprising programmable fixed-word stores and freely accessible stores, all the data for the operation of the machine is split into five divisions, namely motif pattern draft, needle set-up, knitting plan, function number schedule, and plan run. Data for the knitting of standard patterns, comprising the whole of the knitting plan division and part of the function number schedule division, is stored permanently in the fixed word stores. The stored data for the operation of the machine can be extracted and archived. Parts of the data of the divisions can be extracted to compose new patterns. Certain knitting courses can be suppressed and certain needle groups can be selected for adjustment without altering the already stored data. Information as to gauge can also be entered.Type: GrantFiled: February 4, 1981Date of Patent: December 13, 1988Assignees: Universal Maschinenfabrik, Rudolf Schieber GmbHInventors: Albin Weingartner, David Retallick

Patent number: 4787325Abstract: An automatic and operator-unattended apparatus and method for forming a stitched coin pocket in a ply of material. A continuous length of material is provided to a folding station, which imparts a generally Z-shaped fold in the material by moving parallel plates along paths substantially parallel to each other, while the material is held by holding plates. A carriage with gripping fingers holds the fold in place while moving the length of material out to a predetermined length. A cutter cuts the material into a predetermined length. The carriage then pulls the ply of material through a sewing station where the fold is stitched. The carriage then places the sewn folded ply atop a stack of similarly formed articles by positively depositing same on the top of the stack. An improved stacking apparatus presents a substantially flat stacking surface for the article by allowing tilting of the stacking table to compensate for the increased thickness at one end of the ply due to the presence of the folded region.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 1985Date of Patent: November 29, 1988Assignee: Oxford Industries, Inc.Inventors: Marshall Black, E.
