  • Patent number: 4252769
Abstract: An improved apparatus for the performance of chemical processes having a reaction chamber with an open end, a reaction cell mounted within the chamber and having a substantially cylindrical interior wall in which is formed an annular groove, and means for spinning the cell about its axis to distribute a chemical compound on the interior wall as a thin film, which includes a closure member mounted for rotation about an axis displaced from the axis of the cell, and a fluid conduit extending through the closure member and terminating at an inner end within the cell for the withdrawal of fluid therefrom. The inner end of the conduit is displaced from the axis of rotation of the closure member and is positioned substantially opposite the annular groove such that it is actuable for adjustment between a first location displaced radially from the annular groove and a second location substantially within the groove by rotation of the closure member through a preselected angle.

  • Patent number: 4251483
Abstract: Multiple, independent path bubble tonometer apparatus for preparing a plurality of predetermined like or different gas/blood samples under identical though dynamic conditions. The tonometer comprises in a controlled environment common locus, multiple tonometer paths each of which is defined by a gas/blood equilibration chamber, means to add a blood sample to the chamber, means to diffuse a gas into the blood sample to an equilibrium condition therein, the gas diffusion means including a porous diffuser body communicating the sample with a pressurized gas supply, and side arm means to selectively withdraw an aliquot portion of the equilibrium condition sample; and an enclosure defining the controlled environment locus identically about each and every tonometer path for instantly cross-referenceable multiple sample preparations.

  • Patent number: 4251224
Abstract: A machine-controlled chlorine dioxide generating process which produces a gaseous mixture of chlorine dioxide and chlorine is described. Efficiency determinations are made from gas analysis and adjustment made as required. The gas analysis may be used in combination with actual production rate and required production rate machine determinations, possibly along with reaction medium analysis, to adjust operating parameters as required to attain optimum production rate and chemical usage.
