  • Patent number: 8793322
Abstract: Control and/or feedback are provided for message publication in a publish/subscribe messaging environment. A number of different aspects are disclosed, and an embodiment may include one or more of these aspects. In each aspect, each subscribing application has an associated importance level for a subscription, and this importance level may vary among subscriptions for different message topics. Each published message has an associated topic. In some aspects, each published message also has associated criteria, where the criteria are specified with regard to message classification. In preferred embodiments, the message classification comprises importance criteria specifying requirements for importance level of subscribers registered for the topic of that message. Feedback can be provided regarding whether a message publication meets the importance criteria. Control over message publication can be based on whether a message publication meets the importance criteria.

  • Patent number: 8788687
Abstract: A dynamic medical object information base (DMOIB) is used with a communication protocol. A medical object information base (MOIB) may generally define rules of creation and modification of data defined for use in medical products. A dynamic version of the MOIB adapts to changing data classifications. DMOIB is preferably compatible with non-dynamic MOIB systems. DMOIB preferably reduces code space and simplifies management of software projects. DMOIB may allow for an entirely dynamic system using a discovery/negotiation process for determining full features of a device. DMOIB may also allow for generation of a dynamic interface to handle data from devices.

  • Patent number: 8788575
Abstract: A system, method, and computer program product for publishing transcoded media content in response to publishing service requests from end users. A user request for media content, is processed intelligently, either by directing the processing of the request to one of a set of transcoding servers so as to effectively balance the load among the servers, or by directing the processing of the request to an appropriate alternative means for satisfying the request. Transcoding tasks can be prioritized. Moreover, the current load on any particular transcoding server can be monitored in conjunction with determination of the load to be created by a transcoding task, in order to facilitate server selection. Transcoding can be performed on-demand or in a batch mode. Alternatively, a request can be satisfied by distributing media content that has already been transcoded and is resident in cache memory in anticipation of such requests.

  • Patent number: 8788573
Abstract: One embodiment of the present method and apparatus for efficiently expanding a P2P network includes receiving a search request message from a requesting node and sending a response message to the requesting node on behalf of a node that has the requested data, where the response message originates at an intermediate node. The intermediate node may respond on behalf of the “responding” node, for example, in cases where the responding node is too far away from the requesting node to receive the search request message.

  • Patent number: 8782260
Abstract: A method, system and computer program for providing multilevel security to a computer network. The method comprises the step of receiving a first communication packet on at least one network interface port from an outside network. The method further includes the steps of filtering the first packet in one of at least two levels of security comprising a first level of security which examines the content information of the packet and a second level of security which examines the first packet excluding the content information of the packet. The system includes a first packet filter configured to filter its input packets by examining content information of its packets and a second packet filter configured to filter its input packets by examining the header information without examining the content information of its packets. The system further includes a third filter which is configured to forward a number of packets to one of the first and second filters, thereby providing security to the computer network.

  • Patent number: 8782179
Abstract: Multiple pieces of information can be arranged into a single construct that allows the employee to ascertain information quickly while at her workstation. Selection of information for placement into the construct can employ various statistical models and the like. Selective pieces of information can be masked for a user's construct based upon access rights of the user. Constructs can be configured by a user based on personal preferences as well as by an administrator. Population of metadata upon the construct can be performed automatically through an instruction of the administrator or be overridden by a user request. In addition, various types of synchronization can be implemented between constructs, such that identical or near-identical information is populated upon multiple constructs.

  • Patent number: 8775592
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for transmitting control data in a telecommunication network for controlling a service administered by the telecommunication network, especially a server connected to the telecommunication network. According to said method, the telecommunication network provides a data object, especially a contact of an address book, with a function that is special with respect to other data objects. A parameterized message is transmitted by the terminal device for telecommunication via the telecommunication network to a higher order system component of the telecommunication network, said message comprising at least one first parameter for characterizing the data object and a second parameter containing a control information, especially for the activation, deactivation or modification of the service. The higher order system component checks at least one of the parameters and the service is controlled depending on the result of the check and in accordance with the control parameter.

  • Patent number: 8775632
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for managing session information of an access terminal (AT) that has moved from a source subnet to a target subnet in a mobile communication system for high-speed data transmission. The AT transmits a message with a prior universal access terminal identifier (UATI) to a target access network (AN) to perform session negotiation with the target AN of the target subnet. The target AN transmits a message with the prior UATI to a target packet control function (PCF) to request retrieval of session information of the AT. The target PCF sends a request for transmission of prior session information for the AT to a source PCF of the source subnet, found using the prior UATI. The target PCF receives the prior session information from the source PCF and retrieves the session information of the AT using the received prior session information.

  • Patent number: 8775633
Abstract: Method, apparatus, and computer program product embodiments of the invention are disclosed to automatically advertise a change in service offering of a wireless first device in wireless networks. In an example embodiment of the invention, if there is a change in service offering of the first device that is connected to a wireless second device, the first device automatically generates a reassociation request frame and transmits it to the second device. In addition to the standard processing of the reassociation request frame, the second device considers the received reassociation request frame as a trigger to respond by transmitting a generic advertisement service request to the first device. The first device will then have an opportunity to transmit its updated and up-to-date service description to the second device in a generic advertisement service response frame.

  • Patent number: 8775666
Abstract: A method, system and type of database for transmitting data is disclosed in which the data is organized into a structured linear database. The structured linear database includes a routing header portion, a file allocation table, a data portion and a tailbit portion. The structured linear database may be transmitted over any type of network, such as a TM-UWB system or a fiber-optic system. Once the data to be transmitted is identified, a corresponding field is identified in the field allocation table giving the location of the data within the transmission. This field is then referenced by the user to access the specific type of data desired at the given location of the transmission. this process may be repeated enabling data to be stored on transmission lines and accessed at any point at any time providing an always on network.
