Abstract: Situational awareness map display information is generated at a location and populated with sensor information accessed via the Internet. The map display information is made available on the Internet. A remote browser-enabled display terminal accesses the map display information via the Internet, and displays the map and sensor information. A memory associated with the remote terminal is preloaded with fade information. At the remote terminal, a location icon is generated at the cursor location under control of a mouse click. The icon is faded at the stored fade rate. The icon may be a segmented circle surrounding the marked location. Fading may be by sequentially deleting one or more segments from the circle.

Abstract: Systems and methods according to the present invention provide a more secure Automated Teller Machine (ATM) transaction by preventing observation of banking customers' Personal Identification Number (PIN). Such systems and methods make it difficult to obtain a customer's PIN by tracking the hand movement of a customer using an ATM. Inputs presented for a customer selection are preferably dynamically displayed in different locations preferably each time the customer is asked to enter a PIN. Dynamically changing the sequence of the display and/or location of the presented inputs reduces the possibility of mapping the hand movement of the customer to the positions of the inputs displayed for a customer selection. Inputs may also be presented at a very narrow viewing angle, thereby making observation of a PIN difficult. Hence, banking customers are preferably provided with a more robust and secured ATM transaction system.

Abstract: A method for generating a graphical icon to represent a software module is disclosed. The method includes the steps of processing a description of the module stored within a database through a glossary to obtain a normalized description, parsing the normalized description to abstract the module and identify at least one component of the module, obtaining at least one icon component for the at least one module component, and assembling the at least one icon component into the graphical icon.

Abstract: An electronic device with a display and a touch-sensitive surface displays, on the display, a first visual indicator. The electronic device receives a first single touch input on the touch-sensitive surface at a location that corresponds to the first visual indicator; and, in response to detecting the first single touch input on the touch-sensitive surface at a location that corresponds to the first visual indicator, replaces display of the first visual indicator with display of a first menu. The first menu includes a virtual touches selection icon. In response to detecting selection of the virtual touches selection icon, the electronic device displays a menu of virtual multitouch contacts.

Abstract: A graphical user interface in which object thumbnails are rendered in a three-dimensional environment and which exploits spatial memory. The objects may be moved, continuously, with a two-dimensional input device. Pop-up title bars may be rendered over active objects. Intelligent help may be provided to the user, as visual indicators, based on proximity clustering or based on matching algorithms. The simulated location of the object thumbnails in a direction orthogonal to the surface is based on function, such as a linear, polynomial, or exponential function for example, of one or more object properties, such as number of mouse clicks since selected, age, size, etc.

Abstract: Systems and methods for automated signature generation. In one aspect, a method implemented in a computer includes: storing information relating to a plurality of persons on a computer readable medium; and generating a signature block applied to a message composed in a user interface, based on one or more addresses in an address field of the user interface used to compose the message and the information relating to the plurality of persons.

Abstract: A media type currently associated with a multiple media player device is determined by the multiple media player device. A current setting status associated with each of a set of adjustable options associated with the determined media type is determined. A set of option icons that each represents one of the set of adjustable options is identified. Each identified option icon is paired with the associated current setting status of each adjustable option. A menuing input is detected. An overlay user interface menu, including only one option icon and the associated current setting status pair, is displayed over full-screen content on a display. This abstract is not to be considered limiting, since other embodiments may deviate from the features described in this abstract.

A dynamic composition of a task based upon a user selection of a plurality of known services is supported and a dynamic association of the task with a user interface of an application is supported, based upon associating the task with the user selection of a UI object, a UI display screen, and a UI event for the application.

Abstract: An electronic device includes: a communication unit to connect to a different device on a network, the different device storing contents; an output unit to connect to a display apparatus; a control unit; an operation input unit; and a reproduction unit. The control unit searches for contents stored in the different device on the network, generates a list of thumbnail images indicating the searched contents, estimates an error rate when each of the contents is received and reproduced, and outputs the list to the display apparatus, the control unit changing a state of each of the thumbnail images in the list according to the estimated error rate. The operation input unit receives reproduction instruction operation with respect to the content indicated by each of the thumbnail images. The reproduction unit receives the content, which is subjected to the reproduction instruction operation, from the different device, and reproduce the content.

Abstract: An approach that facilitates explicit use of user context objects in a virtual universe is described. In one embodiment, there is a user context object tool that includes a user context object retrieving component configured to retrieve the plurality of user context objects for presentation to the avatar. A user context object selection and modification component is configured to receive a user context object selection and any desired modifications made to the user context object selection. A user context object permissions component is configured to permit the avatar to interact with the virtual universe in accordance with the user context object selection.

Abstract: Systems and methods for providing an enhanced auditory behavior to a graphical user interface are described. Control elements portrayed by the graphical user interface on a display are associated with at least two states. When transitioning between states, a sound effect specified for that transition can be provided to provide further user or designer customization of the interface appearance. Movement of objects can be accompanied by a repeated sound effect. Characteristics of both sound effects can be easily adjusted in volume, pitch and frequency.

Abstract: An information processing apparatus includes a display unit configured to display a plurality of display information items, each corresponding to a content item, and an indicator for indicating one of the display information items, an operation unit, and a control unit. The control unit receives an instruction for updating the display position of the indicator. A plurality of visually distinct sections of the first web page is displayed on the translucent overlay. Each section corresponds to a plurality of hypothetical browser sizes used to view the first web page. In each respective section a percentage corresponding to one of a portion of the community of users that can see or cannot see at least the respective section is displayed.

For example, the integrated handheld computer and telephony system physically integrates a handheld computer with a mobile (e.g., cellular) telephone. In addition, the handheld computer is distinct from telephony system in that they are logically separable. However, they are also operationally integrated, for example, the telephony system executes a telephone application on the processor of the handheld computer. Likewise, the handheld computer can execute applications, for example, a phone book, that can be used to launch the telephony application.
