Abstract: A cosmetic composition is provided which includes as an active ingredient a C.sub.2 -C.sub.28 .alpha.-hydroxy carboxylic acid within a non-stinging ester base formula comprising a C.sub.7 -C.sub.60 neoalkanol ester and a C.sub.12 -C.sub.40 fatty acid ester alkoxylated with from 1 to 100 moles alkylene oxide per mole of glyceride.

Abstract: A method of increasing the deposition of a silicone conditioner to hair. The silicone conditioner is delivered to the hair in an aqueous shampoo and is a polydimethylsiloxane fluid entrapped in a nontoxic hydrophobic macroporous highly crosslinked polymer. The macroporous polymer is a mixture of particulates including unit particles having an average diameter of less than one micron; agglomerates formed of fused unit particles and having an average diameter of about twenty to eighty microns; and aggregates formed of clusters of fused agglomerates and having an average diameter of two-hundred to twelve-hundred microns.
Abstract: Cosmetically elegant anhydrous foaming creams contain high levels of glycerin and emollients, sodium cocoyl isethionate at levels of 19% or less and an effective amount of a detergent additive to increase the softness of the composition. The detergent additive is preferably one of the following: sodium lauryl sulfate, a sodium salt of fatty acid taurate, an acyl glutamate, an .alpha.-olefin sulfonate or a neutralized lauryl phosphoric acid. The detergent additive can be present in an amount from about 1 to about 20 weight percent.
Abstract: A therapeutic composition for treatment of scalp disorders which comprises liquid castile soap, an aqueous extract from corncobs and aloe vera gel. The essential ingredients of the composition may be separately prepared and subsequently combined in relative proportionalities to produce a homogeneous liquid mixture having a consistency suitable for application as a shampoo to the hair and scalp. The shampoo composition can effectively eliminate dandruff in the hair, alleviate itching of the scalp, prevent hair loss and also accelerate hair growth.
Abstract: Cosmetic compositions, especially color cosmetics such as facial foundations, are described that include C.sub.2 -C.sub.28 .alpha.-hydroxy carboxylic acid, rosmarrinic acid as well as salts of the foregoing in pharmaceutically acceptable carriers. These compositions are effective against the signs of aging such as fine lines and wrinkles while being non-irritating to the skin.

Abstract: Described is a fragrancing composition having fragrancing components that are not activated until, e.g., application to the skin of a human. The composition is alkaline or (if anhydrous) capable of producing an alkaline pH when in contact with water, prior to application, and includes (1) a vehicle for application of the composition, and (2) at least one potential fragrance that is at least one compound having little or no odor in the alkaline composition but which, e.g., is hydrolyzed in a lower pH environment to produce compounds having a relatively strong aroma. Upon application of the alkaline composition to the skin surface, the strong buffering capacity of the skin (the surface of which has a normal pH of 5.5-7.0) neutralizes alkalinity of the composition (lowers pH) so as to restore normal skin surface pH; the potential fragrance is then hydrolyzed at the lower pH to release the compound having relatively strong aroma.

Also disclosed are methods for preparing phase-stable no-lye cream bases suitable for conditioning hair relaxer systems.
Abstract: A hair care composition for conditioning hair with silicone oil comprisese a stable emulsion of water-insoluble hair conditioning silicone oil dispersed in a liquid carrier composed essentially of polyoxyalkylene glycol and an emulsifier consisting of a silicone phosphate salt in which the anionic moiety comprises a copolymer of dimethylpolysiloxane and polyoxyethylene.
Abstract: A buffered skin cream containing a linear polydimethylsiloxane polymer, a non-ionic emulsifier, aloe vera, mineral oil, sodium citrate, citric acid, a blend of propylene glycol, diazolidinyl urea, methyl paraben and propyl paraben, and water. The buffering capacity of the cream is provided through the incorporation of citric acid and sodium citrate in the composition. The buffering system results in the cream having a preferred pH in the range of about 4.5 to 6.0, and most preferably a pH of about 5.2 which neutralizes acidic and basic by-products of urine and fecal matter. The cream has a preferred viscosity in the range of 100,000-2,000,000 centipoise and a most preferred viscosity of about 250,000 to 1,000,000 centipoise. The cream is easily washed off with soap and water and is useful in the protection and treatment of diaper rash.

Abstract: An improved permanent waving lotion is attained by incorporating into an otherwise conventional composition an organic compound having at least one function position definable as an alpha, beta-unsaturated ketone in conjunction with a carbon-carbon double bond. By employing the present invention, improved curl formation is attained and the malodor typically associated with permanently waved hair is substantially eliminated. Compounds incorporating the desired alpha, beta-unsaturated ketone can be used directly, in the permanent waving lotion, or chemical precursors can be employed to produce the desired alpha, beta-unsaturated ketone when exposed to oxidation or to alkaline materials.
Abstract: An entirely new class of reducing agents with substantially enhanced beneficial results is attained by employing polyoxyethyleneglycol dimercaptoalkylester compounds in a permanent waving lotion. This new class of reducing agents are water soluble, non-volatile and provide a substantially reduced malodor effect. Furthermore, by employing the dithiol compounds of the present invention as the reducing agent, long lasting hair conditioning and enhanced physical attributes, such as shine, luster, softness, manageability, and hair thickness, are also realized.
Abstract: A powdered molded color cosmetic composition, especially a blush formulation, is provided that includes an ultrafine boron nitride and a magnesium fatty acid salt, the combination being held in a pharmaceutically acceptable vehicle.

Abstract: Terpolymers with more than one constituent cationic monomer, further copolymerized with acrylamide, are conditioning additives for hair, skin and nail care products which, with regard to hair, improve wet and dry hair combability, especially detangling and reduced static flyaway, sheen, and fixative properties, especially curl retention, and with regard to skin and nails, improve softening or lubricating (lubricity), moisture retention and attraction (moisturizing), feel, and reduction of irritation. Abstract: A liquid hair care composition for conditioning hair with silicone oil comprises a stable emulsion of a water-insoluble hair conditioning silicone oil dispersed in a liquid carrier composed essentially of polyoxyalkylene glycol and an effective emulsifying amount of a complex formed from (i) an anionic copolymer of dimethylpolysiloxane and polyoxyethylene wherein the siloxane chain contains from 20 to 40 dimethylsiloxy units and the oxyethylene chain contains from 3 to 15 oxyethylene units and terminates in an anionic phosphate or sulfate group, and (ii) a cationic hair conditioner compound containing at least one cationic quaternary nitrogen or amido amine group and at least one hydrophobic aliphatic or silicone polymer chain.
Abstract: Disclosed is an improved reducing solution comprising: a) from about 1.0% to about 11.0% by weight of cysteamino hydrochloride; b) from about 1.0% to about 24% by weight of a reducing agent selected from a group consisting of salts and esters of thioglycolic acid, L-cysteine, thiolactic acid, and thiomaleic acid, dithioerythreitol, and dithiothyreitol; c) from about 0.5% to about 7% by weight of isoascorbic acid; d) a base in amounts sufficient to adjust the pH from about 6.5 to about 8.5; and e) water in amount sufficient to total 100 percent of the solution; the weight percents being based upon the total weight of the solution.
