  • Patent number: 6868069
Abstract: A device that passively monitors arriving and departing data packets on one or more networks, correlates arriving data packets with departing data packets, and calculates a latency estimate based on the confidence of the correlation. The device detects and copies data packets arriving at a network device and the data packets departing from the same network device. A timestamp is stored for each arriving or departing data packet. Latency across a network device can be determined based on the timestamps for correlating data packets. Additionally, latency across a network device per protocol layer can also be calculated. Varying levels of confidence of a latency estimation depend on the operation necessarily performed on the data packet by the network device and the protocol level at which correlation between the arriving and departing data packets can be achieved.

  • Patent number: 6865162
Abstract: A method and apparatus for elimination of clipping associated with VAD-directed silence suppression includes receiving a voice signal in a buffer during the delay between the start of voice activity and the detection of the voice activity. Then, the voice signal is played from the buffer in condensed form, e.g., by dropping packets or slightly accelerating playback of the signal from the buffer. After voice activity is detected, the voice signal may continue to be buffered and condensed until the buffer is completely depleted. The voice signal may then be transmitted directly, without being buffered or condensed.

  • Patent number: 6865152
Abstract: A network driver for transmitting packets. For a particular embodiment the driver receives an indication that a packet is available for transmission and monitors a packet pending transmission status of a network controller. The driver then indicates to the network controller that the packet is available for transmission only when the pending transmission status in one particular embodiment reaches a threshold value. Thus the driver determines how many packets to provide a network controller based on the amount of packets still waiting to be transmitted by the controller.
