  • Patent number: 4810186
Abstract: A method and firing equipment for burning solid, liquid, or gaseous fuels, especially pulverized coal. The method includes the steps of tangentially introducing main fuel via main burners into a combustion chamber, where the fuel is burned, introducing reducing fuel via reduction burners into the combustion chamber to reduce the nitrogen oxides produced during the combustion of the main fuel, with the reducing fuel being burned under partial stoichiometric conditions, and, to ensure the burning-out of the fuel introduced into the combustion chamber, introducing burn-air above the feed of the main fuel and the reducing fuel, with a helically rising flow being provided in the combustion chamber. The reducing fuel of a given reduction burner is mixed, at a given distance from the opening of the associated main burner, with the curved afflux leaving that main burner for helical flow about the center of the combustion chamber.

  • Patent number: 4807589
Abstract: A draft operated fireplace insert may be used to circulate heated air from one room to another or from the exterior of a building into the interior. The fireplace insert is fitted so that a set of louvers are located over a ventilated ash pit of the fireplace, permitting air to be selectively introduced into the combustion zone of the fireplace. Air is circulated through a channel extending beneath a floor plate and behind a rear plate of the fireplace insert. Alternately, air is drawn through fuel-supporting hollow andirons extending beween the floor plate and the rear plate. A vertically shiftable damper plate controls the flow of air through the channel and the andirons.

  • Patent number: 4805591
Abstract: Fifteen prefabricated refractory concrete blocks, consisting of ten different sizes and/or shapes assemble to provide a replacement firebox of U-shape with facing side walls joined by a rear wall. In one embodiment a metal lintel is disposed at the front upper boundary of the structure produced from the fifteen blocks, the lintel resting on the side walls bridging the opening therebetween and defining the upper boundary of the hearth opening. A masonry transition cone is erected atop the side walls and lintel. In a second embodiment, trapezoidal sheet metal panels are assembled to form a transition cone above the U-shape structure. The bottom courses are produced from blocks that are in the form of oblique rectangular parallelepipeds. These are arranged so that the joints are staggered vertically. The upper portion of the rear wall below the transition cone is formed from oblique trapezoidal prismatic blocks. Certain of the blocks in addition are truncated.

  • Patent number: 4805695
Abstract: Counterflow heat exchanger with a floating plate, which comprises a casing made of a pair of rectangular parallel-spaced wall members and four pieces of bar members connecting the corresponding corners of the pair of wall members, a pair of seal strips located inside said bar members through elastic members diagonally with regard to a line connecting the centers of the wall members, being extended so as to cover and seal a pair of the sides formed by a longer side of the wall members and the bar members, leaving a part of the sides uncovered. More than two sheets of floating plates are spaced apart from each other contained in a space formed by the seal strips and wall members. A spacer in a channel is formed between the floating plates, and a structure for controlling the flow of fluids within the channels is included. By making fluids having different temperatures flow countercurrently to each other through the channels, efficiency of heat exchange of the heat exchanger can be improved.

  • Patent number: 4803964
Abstract: An internal combustion engine comprising a piston slidably disposed for rectilinear reciprocal movement within a cylinder. A drive rack pivotally mounted to the piston carrys a continuous internally facing row of teeth. A drive gear nonrotatably keyed to a drive shaft and internally adjacent to the continuous row of teeth engages a portion of the drive rack teeth. A runner guides the drive rack such that the drive gear cooperatively associates with the drive rack teeth to convert rectilinear movement of the reciprocating piston into rotary movement. One or both of the drive gear and the drive rack are shaped in accordance with the variable forces exerted on the piston during its motion so as to apply torque more evenly to the crank shaft.

  • Patent number: 4800956
Abstract: In order to provide thermal coupling of a package, particularly a package containing electronic components, and a heat sink, a thermal transfer assembly includes a first assembly having a group of generally parallel cooling fins coupled to the package. Coupled to the heat sink, such as cooling plate, is a second assembly also including a plurality of generally parallel cooling fins. The second set of cooling fins is positioned on the heat sink so that when the heat sink is in a predetermined position with respect to the package, the cooling fins overlap. The overlapping cooling fins permit efficient transfer of heat thus permitting heat generated in the package to be conveyed to the heat sink. The overlapping fins also permit convenient disassembly and reassembly for test and maintenance procedures. Techniques for fabrication of the thermal transfer assembly are described along with procedures for improving the operation of the heat transfer assembly.

  • Patent number: 4801125
Abstract: A large manually operated leak-proof corrosion-proof low-cost shut-off or stop valve for handling high pressure refrigerant liquid and/or gases is disclosed. The valve comprises a valve body formed of two sheet metal hemispheres electron-welded to the periphery of a circular metal valve plate which has an aperture therethrough. Hollow cylindrical metal tubes entend into circular holes formed in the hemispheres and are electron-welded to the hemispheres along the edge of the circular holes. One tube on each hemisphere serves for fluid flow. Another internally and externally threaded tube on one hemisphere serves as valve sleeve through which a manually rotatable and axially shiftable externally threaded valve spindle extends. The inner end of the valve spindle is secured to a valve disc which cooperates with the aperture in the valve plate. In the method, components to be welded together are assembled and rotated with respect to a stationary electron welding beam.
