Abstract: Disclosed are a method for displaying a program execution window based on a user's location and a computer system that embodies the method, wherein a window of a selected and executed program is displayed on a selected local zone of a displaying screen. The computer system includes a microprocessor, a system memory, and a program storage device storing therein a program-window-displayed-location control program and application programs that can be selected and executed by a user. When the microprocessor executes the control program, the control program detects if any one of the application programs is selected by the user and uses a user location identification device to determine which one of a plurality of local zones that constitute the displaying screen that the user is located on. Then, a window of the execution of the selected application programs is displayed on the one of the local zones of the displaying screen.

Abstract: Techniques described herein allow for suggesting creation of distribution lists and suggesting use of distribution lists once they have been created. For instance, these techniques may track a frequency with which contacts (e.g., email addresses, phone numbers, screen names, etc.) are used with one another. The techniques may then suggest that a user create a distribution list that includes those contacts. Furthermore, once a contact has been associated with a particular distribution list, these techniques may suggest that a user send a message to this distribution list in response to the user selecting the contact (rather than the list) as a destination of the message.

Abstract: An authoring tool for post-production insertion of tags and pointers into a video sequence is disclosed. Such an authoring tool can facilitate tag and pointer coordinate capture and tracking by using position detection (e.g., via a touchscreen) coupled to a display system. In one embodiment, a method can include: (i) selecting a video frame loop for viewing on a display device; (ii) receiving a list of tags for positioning within the selected video frame loop; and (iii) positioning a selected tag from the list of tags in one or more frames of the video frame loop. Also, the method can include positioning a pointer corresponding to the selected tag in the one or more frames.

Abstract: In accordance with some embodiments, a computer-implemented text selection method is performed using an electronic device having a touch-sensitive display. The method can include displaying text on the touch screen display; detecting a text selection initiation gesture with the touch screen display; and in response to the text selection initiation gesture, inserting a text selection area bounded by a first endpoint located in the text at a first location and a second endpoint in the text at a second location. First and second endpoints can be moved by performing further gestures on the touch-sensitive display. Furthermore, word processing functions can be performed on the on the text located in the text selection area.

Abstract: To improve the art of graphical user interfaces, the present invention introduces a system that displays iconic resource representations having a salient dimension in a manner that provides the user with an indication of where the user is within that resource. The system of the present invention achieves this goal with the use of a novel system of icon label placement for that resource icon. Specifically, the system of the present invention uses the position of a label on an iconic resource representation that extends beyond at least one edge of a window to convey a proportional position within than iconic resource representation. Thus, a user is given an understanding of the current proportional location within an iconic resource representation from where the graphical interface system renders the label on the iconic resource representation.

Abstract: A method enables selecting items from a list, as well as functions associated with these items and with the list in general. Each item is identified by an icon displayed in a series of icons. A first command enables the item to be selected and a second command enables it to be activated. The series of icons comprises at least one additional icon. The user selects this additional icon, then at the end of a certain time a sub-menu appears presenting all the functions selectable via the second command. With the second command, the user can execute functions that apply to the list of items and no longer to a single item. Also provided is a device capable of executing the method of selection and executing an item and a function.

Abstract: A method for changing an application User Interface (UI) in a portable terminal using menu theme information is provided. UI theme information contained in menu theme information is loaded, a main window image is selected from the loaded UI theme information, and theme index table information is selected. A user interface consistent with a menu UI is created using the selected theme index table information and the selected main window image. The created user interface is stored as a basic interface. The created user interface is applied and displayed.

Abstract: A mobile terminal and a method for retrieving a phone number using identification names corresponding to stored phone numbers are provided. The method includes: displaying a first letter of identification names in a phone number retrieval mode, wherein each identification name corresponds to a phone number stored in the mobile terminal; selecting one of the displayed first letters; extracting at least one search keyword having the selected first letter as the first letter of the search keyword; and displaying the identification names corresponding to the search keyword. Retrieval of a phone number is thereby simplified, and the retrieval speed of the phone number is improved.

Abstract: The invention makes it possible to select an element from a list of elements represented by icons. A first element is selected by affixing a graphics distinction on its icon. When the user activates and holds a command, said graphics distinction moves from the first icon to a second icon. A second element is selected when the graphics distinction occupies at least one determined area of the second icon representing this second element. According to an improvement, the graphics distinction moves from icon to icon, totally overlapping only a single icon at a time. The invention also relates to a device able to execute the method of selecting an element by moving a graphics distinction.

The method further includes selecting a server computer from amongst the different server computers.

Abstract: Methods and systems are described for displaying input items on a display. In one embodiment, a first activation of a button representing a displayable input item is detected. Responsive to the first activation of the button, the displayable input item is displayed on a display at an initial display size without accepting selection of the displayable input item. The displayable input item is incrementally enlarged on the display over time until detecting a second activation of the button. Selection of the displayable input item is accepted responsive to the second activation of the button. The initial display size is set for the displayable input item based on a display size of the displayable input item when the second activation of the button is detected.
