  • Patent number: 10349057
Abstract: Certain embodiments herein relate to optimizing the efficiency of video coding. Such optimization may be based on characteristics of video content, such as the size and type of video frames. The size of video frames may be compared to a threshold size to determine whether an intracoded frame should be inserted into a Group of Pictures (GOP) instead of a predetermined type of video frame. As an example, an intracoded video frame may be inserted into the GOP when an abrupt or gradual size change in the sequence of video frames is determined. As another example, unipredicted frames may also be inserted into the GOP instead of bipredicted frames using a similar comparison.

  • Patent number: 10326995
Abstract: System and method embodiments are provided for achieving improved View Synthesis Distortion (VSD) calculation and more accurate distortion estimation of encoded video frames. An embodiment method includes obtaining a depth map value for a video frame and determining a weighting factor for depth distortion in accordance with the depth map value. The weighting factor maps a pixel range of the depth map value to an output function having higher values for closer image objects and lower values for farther image objects. The VSD for the video frame is then calculated as a function of absolute horizontal texture gradients weighted by a depth distortion value and the weighting factor determined in accordance with the depth map value.

  • Patent number: 10306157
Abstract: A camera system includes memory, image sensors, illuminators, and a processor. The processor operates the illuminators and the image sensors in a first mode to capture a two-dimensional image of the scene using light transmitted by the illuminators and reflected from the scene. The processor operates in a second mode to capture a plurality of images of the scene, including capturing a first image of the scene while one or more of the illuminators are activated and capturing a second image of the scene is while none of the illuminators are activated. The images are transmitted to a remote cloud computing system. The remote system constructs a light intensity map for the scene using the first and second images, and identifies a first region in the light intensity map as a glass surface when the light intensity values for the first region are below a threshold value corresponding to glass.
