  • Patent number: 10509463
Abstract: A virtual reality system including a head mounted display (HMD), a server, and a beam steering apparatus utilizes optical data transmission from the server to the HMD. The data rates/bandwidths provided by optical data transmission allow the amount of compression needed for data transfer (and the latency associated with compression) to the HMD to be reduced. The efficient offloading of processing tasks from the HMD to the server, reduces HMD power consumption, and enables the delivery of video having high resolution, framerate, and quality. As the user of the HMD moves, and the pose (position and orientation) of the HMD changes, the pose is provided to the server and beam steering apparatus. Based on the pose, the server renders image frames for transmission to the HMD and the beam steering apparatus directs an optical beam to the HMD to enable transmission of the image frames from the server to the HMD.

  • Patent number: 10431163
Abstract: There are provided a backlight scanning method and a device thereof. The method comprises: dividing an edge lighting type backlight source into an upper side optical region and a lower side optical region; turning on the light sources at the upper and lower sides respectively after the response of the liquid crystal corresponding to the pixels in the last row of the upper and lower side optical regions is stationary; turning off the light sources at the upper and lower sides respectively when the next response period of the liquid crystal corresponding to the pixels in the first row of the upper and lower side optical regions starts. The method solves the difficulties of applying the scanning backlight to the edge lighting type backlight source by respectively controlling the timings of turning on and off the light sources at the upper and lower sides, whereby the application scope of the scanning backlight is broadened.

  • Patent number: 10402025
Abstract: A concurrent touch and negative pixel scan performed at a touch panel is disclosed. The concurrent scan can include sensing an object proximate to the touch panel and sensing a negative pixel effect, based the object's grounding condition, at the touch panel, at the same time. As a result, sense signals indicative of the proximity of the object and coupling signals indicative of the negative pixel effect's magnitude can be captured concurrently. Because the negative pixel effect can cause errors or distortions in the sense signals, the coupling signals can be used to compensate the sense signals for the negative pixel effect.
