  • Patent number: 7531097
Abstract: An apparatus and method for mixing gas and liquid including a dome, lower housing, aerator device and flotation device, wherein intermeshed rotating sets of discs operate on parallel shafts driven by variable speed drives, and strakes are radially mounted on the discs to carry liquid up into a mixing area and to carry air and liquid down into a mixing area resulting in a shear force that drives air into the oxygen depleted liquid. The dome and lower housing create an air tight space, wherein the barometric pressure is raised by a blower, in order to pop foam bubbles and allow for optimum mixing of air into the oxygen depleted liquid, and intake and discharge openings of the lower housing are positioned beneath the liquid line, thereby preventing the escape of foam, noise and odorous gases into the local environment.

  • Patent number: 7530553
Abstract: A high-velocity water misting gun with a very high-speed radial inflow hydraulic turbine mounted on the same shaft with an axial flow air compressor wheel compressing air discharged at high velocities through an exhaust air nozzle. A preferred embodiment utilizes a plastic-metal hydraulic turbine wheel in which the plastic portion of the wheel other than blades is solidly anchored within a metal containing wheel. High pressure water drives the hydraulic turbine and provides water lubrication to high-speed bearings supporting a rotating shaft. The preferred embodiment utilizes hybrid bearings (part hydrodynamic, part hydrostatic) suitable for low-viscosity fluids such as water. In the preferred embodiment all of the water discharging from the hydraulic turbine wheel is channeled through a hollow shaft to a set of high-speed, shaft-mounted rotating orifices providing a fine water mist discharging into a high-velocity air flow provided by the axial-flow compressor.

  • Patent number: 7527247
Abstract: An apparatus for exposing air to an aromatic substance (26) at a uniform level of aroma for a certain period of time without using gas, fire, or applied electric heat source. The invention has an aromatic solution tank (31) on which sits a lid (30) under which is mounted a motor (32) engaged by a micro-switch (34). Disposed on the motor shaft is an impeller (36) generating a guide air flow through a chamber of free space in the tank via an intake housing (35), inlet (21a) and outlet (25b) holes in the lid, and attached a draw tube (37). Rotation (20) of the draw tube delivers a 360 degree sheet of aromatic solution (24) across flowing air (22), air which is then discharged (25a) to environment. Consequently, air flowing through the swirl of aromatic solution is exposed at a uniform level for a certain period of time.

  • Patent number: 7520493
Abstract: An aerator for mechanically inducing near laminar flow and controlled turbulence in a liquid waste treatment lagoon or pond. A blower, blower mount platform, diffuser modules, aeration manifold, aeration chamber, an adjustable, telescoping aeration chamber extension, baffles, and buoyancy apparatuses attach to a frame. The diffusers are located beneath the surface of the body of liquid at a predetermined, fixed depth. The blower supplies air to the diffusers and liquid-bubble mixture is released into an aeration chamber where artificial aeration is maximized. The mixture then rises through the aeration chamber. Bubble dissipation and flow conditioning baffles force bubbles to coalesce and vertically dissipate into the atmosphere. The liquid flows over the top of the baffles and a flow manipulation rim to radiate outward and parallel to the pond surface with minimum turbulence at an optimum flow discharge rate. The aerator provides optimized oxygen transfer at low energy costs.

  • Patent number: 7506861
Abstract: A distribution tray for distribution of vapor and liquid across a vessel has a plurality of downcomers extending above the tray and having open upper and lower ends. A liquid conduit for each downcomer has an inlet, a section for upward liquid flow, and openings in fluid communication with the downcomer. A reduced flow area section and a device for improved liquid spread may be used at the outlet of the downcomer. During operation, vapor enters the upper downcomer end. Liquid collected on the tray flows through the inlet, upward through the conduit, and through the openings into the downcomer, where the liquid is mixed with downwardly-flowing vapor. The two-phase stream passes the reduced flow area section with increased velocity for improved dispersion of the liquid before the stream flows through the device for improved liquid spread, and then exits through the lower end of the downcomer.

  • Patent number: 7497420
Abstract: Containers for providing vapor phase reactant from liquid sources include bubbler designs and designs in which carrier gas flows over the liquid surface. Among the bubbler arrangements, a bypass conductance is provided to release excess pressure from the gas volume inside the container, or an enlarged bubbler tube is provided with a volume sufficient to accommodate all possible liquid backflow without having the liquid exit the container. Among the overflow designs, flow dividers provide a tortuous path for the gas to increase the time exposure of carrier gas packets to the evaporating liquid surface. The flow dividers can be microporous to encourage capillary action, thereby increasing the evaporating surface. The tortuous gas flow path can be separated from the liquid phase by a breathable semi-porous membrane that permits vapor phase reactant to pass through but prohibits liquid from passing in the other direction.

  • Patent number: 7490816
Abstract: An improved random packing is the subject of the present invention. The packing element comprises a generally spherically shaped member which can be a perfect sphere, an ellipse, or some variation on either of the foregoing. The sphere is a hollow body having inner and outer surfaces with a plurality of openings passing through the body. A hypothetical axis passing through the sphere defines circular openings at both ends and the openings in between these two ends are generally elongated. The solid walls which form the sphere are of sufficient thickness so as to accommodate a plurality of indentations, some of which are formed in the solid walls and other indentations being formed coincidentally with the elongated openings between the solid wall sections. The indentations are characterized by curvilinear surfaces so that the total surface area presented by the inner surface (S1) and all of the remaining surfaces (S2) are at least twice the area of solid sphere of the same diameter with no indentations.
