Patent number: 5918516Abstract: A method of cutting input/output columns on an electronic component includes the steps of: providing a shear plate which has a thickness that is less than the length of the columns and which has respective holes for receiving all of the columns; inserting the columns into the holes until a portion of the columns extend past the shear plate; placing a blade, with a cutting edge, at an acute angle against the shear plate such that only the cutting edge of the blade touches the shear plate; and, sliding the cutting edge of the blade against shear plate and through the portion of the columns which extend past the shear plate, while keeping the blade at the acute angle. With this method, crater-like voids and burrs on the cut ends of the columns are eliminated.Type: GrantFiled: February 7, 1997Date of Patent: July 6, 1999Assignee: Unisys CorporationInventors: Ronald Allen Norell, Kenneth Walter Economy

Patent number: 5918519Abstract: An apparatus for the manufacture of sheets of corrugated web of variable size comprises a margin cutting arrangement, which is disposed--in the conveying direction--downstream of, and separated from, longitudinal cutting arrangements and which is provided with cutting devices for cutting margins, which are permanently in engagement with the web of corrugated board. In the case of changes of format width accompanied by changes of the width of the margins to be cut off, this makes it possible that the latter can be cut continuously, which helps avoid malfunction.Type: GrantFiled: April 17, 1997Date of Patent: July 6, 1999Assignee: BHS Corrugated Maschinen- und Anlagenbau GmbHInventors: Klaus Schnabel, Karl Waldeck, Edmund Bradatsch

Patent number: 5918370Abstract: A hand held power assisted shears has a piston located in a cylinder formed in a pistol grip body. A trigger controls the position of a hollow shuttle spool rod which slides longitudinally within a hollow piston rod connected between the piston and the blades. The hollow shuttle spool rod carries pressurized working fluid to the piston where it is directed to the space above or below the piston. The piston drives the blades through the piston rod to a position corresponding to the position of the trigger allowing the operator to continuously control the position of the blades and the extent and rate of closure during cutting. The relative position of the shuttle spool rod and the piston rod controls whether the working fluid is directed above or below the piston to open or close the blades. One end of the shuttle spool rod acts as a piston which causes the blades to open automatically when the trigger is released.Type: GrantFiled: October 9, 1997Date of Patent: July 6, 1999Assignee: Jarvis Products CorporationInventor: Andrew J. Patent number: 5904283Abstract: A note paper sheet dispenser adapted to supply a user with a note paper sheet whose dimensions are determined by the user. The dispenser includes a rectangular base above whose rear end is mounted for rotation a strip paper roll in which the underside of the paper strip is coated with a longitudinal band of low-tack pressure-sensitive adhesive. Mounted above the base is an endless conveyer belt which runs between a motor-driven roller adjacent the paper roll and an idler roller adjacent the front end of the base. When the motor is energized, the belt then draws paper strip from the roll along the belt to a length depending on the time period during which the motor is energized. A tear-off blade above the belt and adjacent the roll permits the length of paper strip lying in the belt to be torn off to provide a note paper sheet of the desired length that can be written on and then temporarily adhered to a document or other object.Type: GrantFiled: May 10, 1996Date of Patent: May 18, 1999Inventor: Maurice S. Patent number: 5901619Abstract: A method for manufacturing a rotary cutting tool for fabricating a sheet having transverse slits. The rotary cutting tool has a cylindrical body having generally longitudinally extending grooves, and cutting blades. The cutting blades are first fitted in the grooves with the cutting edges seated on the bottom surfaces of the grooves, and the base surfaces of the cutting blades projecting from the grooves are machined with a rotary grinding wheel while the cylindrical body is rotated. The cutting blades are then removed from the grooves and are finally fitted in the same grooves. Patent number: 5899128Abstract: A continuous web of sheet material is fed through the lip of a first pair of driven pull rolls around a series of idler rollers and through the nip of a second pair of driven pull rolls. The pairs of pull rolls are selectively rotated to exert a desired tension on the web in a tension zone formed between the pairs of rolls. One pair of pull rolls operates as feed rolls to advance a preselected length of the web to a rotating cutter mechanism so that envelope blanks of a selected length are cut from the web for each revolution of the cutter mechanism. The feed rolls are operated by a servo-controlled motor responsive to an operator initiated signal to adjust the feed length without interrupting the feed of the web to the cutter mechanism. The second pair of pull rolls operates as tension rolls and is servo-motor controlled to maintain a preselected tension on the web fed to the cutter mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: June 13, 1997Date of Patent: May 4, 1999Assignee: F. Patent number: 5890410Abstract: A holding assembly for maintaining a blade in an operative position on a movable support, which holding assembly has an elongate housing assembly having a first wall with a first pressure applying surface facing transversely to the length of the elongate housing assembly in a first direction, and a plate assembly having a second wall with a second pressure applying surface. With the elongate housing assembly and plate assembly in operative relationship, the first and second pressure applying surfaces face oppositely to each other so that there is a thickness between the first and second pressure applying surfaces. The first and second walls are repositionable selectively towards and away from each other with the elongate housing assembly and plate assembly in operative relationship to thereby vary the thickness between the first and second pressure applying surfaces.Type: GrantFiled: March 19, 1997Date of Patent: April 6, 1999Inventor: Domingo Hinojosa
