  • Patent number: 7617291
Abstract: A method and system for handling received out-of-order network data using generic buffers for non-posting TCP applications is disclosed. When incoming out-of-order data is received and there is no application buffer posted, a TCP data placement may notify a TCP reassembler to terminate a current generic buffer, allocate a new current generic buffer, and DMA the incoming data into the new current generic buffer. The TCP data placement may notify the TCP reassembler the starting TCP sequence number and the length of the new current generic buffer. Moreover, the TCP data placement may add entries into a TCP out-of-order table when the incoming data creates a new disjoint area. The TCP data placement may adjust an existing disjoint area to reflect any updates. When a TCP application allocates or posts a buffer, then the TCP reassembler may copy data from a linked list of generic buffers into posted buffers.

  • Patent number: 7616573
Abstract: A Weighted Random Early Detection (WRED) algorithm is described. The WRED algorithm provides fairness to responsive TCP and non-responsive UDP traffic at a buffer of a communications system. Because TCP traffic is responsive to congestion occurrences while UDP traffic is not, without controls, UDP will monopolize the buffer bandwidth. This invention solves the problem by applying congestion control alogrithms to TCP and UDP traffic separately. Discard thresholds for UDP traffic are dynamically modified in a manner that limits UDP traffic to a provisioned percentage of the buffer's available bandwidth, while a traditional WRED algorithm is applied to TCP traffic.

  • Patent number: 7616558
Abstract: The transport capacity of a Virtual Concatenation Group (VCG) can be reduced under control of a Link Capacity Adjustment Scheme (LCAS). The VCG comprises link members, in which payload data are transmitted. A first control message comprising a fail message (RFAIL) for a link member is transmitted from sink to source, while the sink continues reception of payload data. On reception of the first control message at the source, a second control message is transmitted comprising a message (FDNU) indicating that payload data of the link member shall not be used, and transmission of payload data is discontinued. On reception of the second control message at the sink reception of payload data is discontinued, and the link member is removed. This allows a reduction of the transport capacity of a Virtual Concatenation Group to be performed in a hitless manner, even when initiated at the sink side.

  • Patent number: 7613177
Abstract: Extra stages can be added to a switching network to provide pathwise redundancy for fault tolerance and to alleviate traffic blocking. Also, the addition of extra stages can alleviate the loss of pathwise redundancy when the width of switching networks is increased. An in-service method of upgrading a switching network by adding stages allows the addition of redundancy to an existing network without the need to take the network out of service. From an operational point of view, it is often desirable for the upgrade process to be performed by a plurality of sequential steps. However, it is also desirable to minimize the number of steps performed. Because the insertion of extra stages into an existing network calls. for the rewiring of interconnection networks above and below the insertion point, the number of steps can be minimized while also minimizing the impact to network traffic by concurrently rewiring those interconnection networks through a plurality of disconnection and connection steps.

  • Patent number: 7613127
Abstract: A solution is provided wherein physical link parameters may be negotiated after a link is brought up by having the two devices involved in the link exchange identifiers when the link is initially brought up. These identifiers may be saved in the devices and then utilized upon receipt of subsequent physical link parameter negotiation packets to ensure that these packets are received by a partner who is connected via a physical link.

  • Patent number: 7609640
Abstract: A novel approach is provided for avoiding the “slow-start restart” in TCP communications when network conditions dictate such. The disclosed approach serves to overcome the latency related to the “slow-start restart” by assessing network conditions and avoiding the “slow-start restart” when network conditions justify the avoidance. The disclosed methods, applications and devices implement the periodic communication of a probe packet that is generated and transmitted from a TCP sender to a TCP receiver during the period that the TCP network connection remains idle. Receipt of the probe packet by the TCP receiver will trigger transmission of an acknowledgment message by the TCP receiver. Upon receipt of the acknowledgement message the TCP sender will restart measurement of the idleness period and, as such the “slow-start restart” is avoided.

  • Patent number: 7609624
Abstract: Improved network design techniques are provided. For example, a technique for designing a protection capacity to be reserved in a network comprises the following steps/operations. One or more link capacities associated with a network topology are obtained. The network is assumed to have no pre-existing working traffic. A capacity partition including a working capacity portion and a protection capacity portion is determined for at least one link in the network topology. The protection capacity portion is reserved for rerouting working traffic upon a failure and enabling control over the number of backup tunnels, associated with the at least one link, on which working traffic can be rerouted. Determining the capacity partition substantially guarantees at least one of a minimal failure restoration time and a minimal overbuild. A minimal overbuild may include an overbuild equivalent to no more than two times an overbuild required for an optimal solution.

  • Patent number: 7609639
Abstract: Logic circuitry (409) constantly monitors a transmitter (410) to determine if the transmitter (410) is idle. Logic circuitry (409) suppresses all NAKs until data and other channel information is not being transmitted by the transmitter (410) and RF resources are not scarce. Additionally, logic circuitry (409) suppresses all NAKs until a predetermined number of NAKs has been buffered by the logic circuitry (409). More particularly, logic circuitry (409) determines when a number of NAKs will sufficiently fill an over-the-air frame. Once the predetermined number of NAKs has been collected, the logic circuitry (409) will generate the appropriate NAKs.

  • Patent number: 7606174
Abstract: A signal transmission apparatus is connected to a network as one node among a plurality of nodes involved in the network which is provided with an audio signal transmission period for transmitting a plurality of channels of audio signals each transmission cycle and a control data transmission period for transmitting control data of the plurality of the nodes each control cycle by using an idle time period other than the audio signal transmission period. In the signal transmission apparatus, a storage section stores configuration information of the one node. A transmitting section transmits the control data including an error checking code of the configuration information. A receiving section receives request data from another node, the request data requesting the one node for transmission of an information block of the configuration information. A control section controls the transmitting section to transmit the information block in response to the request data.

  • Patent number: 7602804
Abstract: This invention discloses a method for smooth capacity expansion of data communication product, and a smooth capacity expandable system of data communication. Architecture of the system at least comprises circuit card and switched network card; and further comprises interface card of switched network, interface transfer card and connection optical fiber. Based on these, it provides one kind of multiple frameworks structure with interconnection between frameworks. When the capacity is expanded, the original circuit cards and switched network cards keep unchanged, only smoothly increases the switched network cards and numbers of circuit card frameworks. Therefore, it implements smooth capacity expansion and client investment protection at the same time. With adding backup cards, it also implements capacity expansion without interrupting the service.
